  1. OMG - $60/ft? I bought 10 ft of 3" and 5 ft of 2.5" ALL for $50. And that was from a muffler shop. I guess if my girlfriends cooch expelled $100 I could afford tubing like that. But oval tubing is a good idea. And this is more of what I was thinking (see attached) - something that pops out of the body/side of car. I can see what you guys mean by heat being an issue, but how much more hot can it get just by coming out the side. Your essentially reducing the amount of tubing.
  2. agreed, i love the stock taillights. I only wish mine were LED's
  3. I would throw on some headlight covers. Are those the fiberglass bumpers? or just painted black? I really like the exhaust, sexy as hell. good looking car, but that is a ton of work. If I was gonna spend money on the body like this guy did I would weld in a wide body kit. Nothing, in my opinion, makes these Z's look hotter.
  4. personally I like the flush background, but it is a very cool idea nonetheless. If done right and you make sure it blend that panel in perfectly then I say go for it. You never know, you may start a trend. I know I haven't seen it before - but then again I am a young'n and haven't seen anything compared to some of the dinosaurs on here.
  5. So the motor (SR20DET) is installed - thanks for Mckinney for the Motor mounts - and now it is time to build an exhaust. I decided on running a 3" straight pipe and am planning on having it come out before the rear wheel (left side). I am not sure if anyone has done this before, but can anyone here see any issues I may run into when building the exhaust? Also, can anyone think of any con's reguarding running a side exhaust (apart from the noise and black soot on side of car.) Im doing this for a couple reasons: 1. Side exhausts are mean looking 2. I want to run a 3" straight pipe 3. I dont care to run it under or over the rear suspension 4. I like to play with my welder Thanks all, I will photo document the event and be sure to post them up for your viewing pleasure.
  6. I know I personally have a lot of respect for someone who builds there own car over someone who goes out and buys something thats already fast and handles well. I also prefer the lines of older sports cars over the new ones. I say finish the project, you've had it this long, dont quit the race. You can always start a new project after the Datsun. My next project : Early 70's Skyline GT-R with an RB26DETT swap (+ a whole lot of suspension and brakes)
  7. haha, imagine the motor you could build with just the price of those seats...dear lord.
  8. Just looking for old school Recaro seats and came across these gems - i cant believe they want so much for these things... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-911-Recaro-Sport-Seats-Fresh-Concours_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1171Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1308Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem190288066321QQitemZ190288066321QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  9. To the OP, I am kinda in the same boat as you. My pops owned one when he was my age, took my mom on their first date in it, and I hope to take my future wife (whoever she may be) on our first date in mine. At first the Z was a realistic dream car, but now that I have been working on her and becoming familiar with every part of her it seems that I am enjoying her much more than if I were to BUY a dream car. Making one yourself is SOOO much more enjoyable. The Z is in no way a "dream car" in her current state (in process of getting a new power plant) but eventually she will be prime.
  10. I am installing an SR20 into my 75 280Z and I have some Q's regarding fuel delivery. First would be the stock fuel pump. The car was running and served as a daily driver when I bought it, so the fuel pump is functioning but I am wondering if I should use it with my SR or upgrade to a Walbro. Also, if I do keep it should I pick up a air/fuel guage before I run the motor just to make sure that I am not running too lean? I am def. planning on getting all the necessary guages - but right now im just getting the motor installed and running. second Q pertains to the fuel cell. Since the 75 was fuel injected would my stock fuel cell be ok to run with the SR? I am also planning on upgrading to an aftermarket fuel cell eventually, but if upgrading immediately is not needed then I will put that farther down the list.
  11. Holy hell sir. This is amazing. One day hopefully I can experience what you are experiencing. I too am doing an SR swap into my car (welded motor mounts in yesterday. But mine is nowhere close to your car. I thank you for posting the progress - this is better than pr0n.
  12. that S class is awesome...well the wheels are anyway...
  13. Looking to build up a 2.5" or 3" exhaust for my SR20 powered 280Z. I see that there are some companies online that sell pre mandrel bent tubing. would you think it would be cheaper to buy all the bends I need from a site like that, or buy the tubing at a supply store, then take it to a shop and have them mandrel bend the tubing for me. Thanks, Adam
  14. so I'm assembling the Datsun back together after the motor swap, and during my garage escapades I happened to put a crack in my stock center consol. So, instead of buying a new stock one, I was thinking that perhaps I could grab one out of a different car, and go with something that's different. Anyone know of a good write up online that goes into this? Im looking to keep the stock dash, and am curious if there is a center consol out there that works with our dashes well.
  15. Using zip ties to hold your kit on is kinda like banging a fat chick, you dont wanna tell people you do it.
  16. SoCal, whats that next to the Z? A S13? The red and white one thats tucking. Lets see some more pics of that.
  17. I am looking to buy some of these gauges: and I would like to have the same type gauges for my speed and RPM. Does anyone know who makes a gauge that would fit in the stock speedo / rpm location? Im also thinking that I would perhaps buy some aftermarket 5" gauges that have clear lenses, and smoke them myself.
  18. thanks. yea, i think we're buying tubing and fabing one up ourselves. thanks for the advice.
  19. I have aq buddy who is parting out his 240sx and has this exhaust on it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/89-94-240sx-s13-sr20det-elbow-downpipe-exhaust-catback_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1240Q7c39Q3a2Q7c66Q3a4Q7c65Q3a12Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem250306492026QQitemZ250306492026 I was wondering if anyone here knew if this exhaust would fit on the Z. I have a welder and making a few section bends wouldn't be a problem.
  20. I am running the SR20 and doing a custom front mount with an IC that has 3" end tanks. Throttle body outlet is 2 3/4" on the SR. Turbo outlet is 2". My buddy an I were wondering what size piping we should be looking for. im gonna be running anywhere from 7lbs - 14lbs on the stock turbo. thanks, adam
  21. I just removed the L28 from my 75 280z in order to throw in my SR20det. My buddy and I were looking at how high the cars front end is with no motor and thought that because the SR is so much lighter than the original L28 that the Z would have an odd wheel gap with springs and struts. can one achieve a proper ride height running the SR with just springs and struts, or do i need to look into adjustable coilovers? thanks, adam
