I've saved this in order to show my upholsterer what I do not want the stitching to look like. The circles arent perfect and you can see little knot looking things in the thread.

look to spend about a $1000 to get the dash done right. I have seen some botched jobs. I am getting this done when i attack my interior, but i believe I am getting the shift boot, and center console wrapped as well. Maybe some accents on the door panels, but i dont want TOO much suede in the interior.

thanks for the link man

If by headlight buckets you mean headlight covers then you are gonna have to be patient. From what I've heard a pair comes on sale only every once and a while and the demand is high. So get ready to pay they price they are asking. G nose Z's are sick though. I would convert mine to G nose, but I'd rather just spend that money on a different car that I love. Im sure by the time Im 50 I'll have 50+ cars.

Which Rims For ZG Flare Cars???
icapture replied to Old Man's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
and the price of these custom made wheels??? personally i am going with the Watanabe's - yes they are quite expensive but to me the wheels make the car, and im willing to drop that kind of cash on cast wheels. -
car looks sick, although those seats dont look so great. I hate the look of leather that doesnt fit the foam right.

they kind of remind me of cadillac seats. but i dont know. look sick though.

What do the letters on the back of the ignition switch say?

I am trying to figure out which prongs on the back of my 1975 280z ignition switch control what. I see that there are some letters on the back of it and they are B S A IG R I have been looking thru my Chiltons and I am not seeing anything. This is what i am looking at: Also, how do you think i should attatch the wire to the copper tooth? I saw these things, i might go look for some tomorrow. The tooth is .25" wide Can someone help?? Is there a female plug that goes into the back of it? I looked around and I dont see a plug that corresponds with the pattern. If there is a plug, could I get a picture of it by chance? Adam

Fuel pump on 1975 280z adequate for SR20det?
icapture replied to icapture's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
did you have to replace it before you drove it? or did you drive it for a while then replace it? I am dying to get this thing out of the garage on its own power! if only for 5 min. but i dont want to do damage, so if i HAVE to wait - I will. -
About to fire up my SR20DET once my last silicone intercooler connector gets here. And i was wondering, do you guys think the fuel pump on the 280z is enough to fun a SR20det at stock boost? I mean, the motor is quite a bit smaller than the stock L28 that came in this thing - so it should be fine right? Just as long as it turns on - haha.

Buying up some gauges - have some questions
icapture replied to icapture's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
I like the integrated idea. I am going to have to look into that. I have my dash out right now, I am gonna measure and look behind it to see what I will have to modify. But if it looked factory that would be so very cool. Especially with a professionally done suede cover or something. -
I am just gonna vent my frustrations
icapture replied to icapture's topic in Ignition and Electrical
Thanks for that. Im gonna print it out. -
I have a 280z sitting in my garage. The motor is in. The tranny is in. The FMIC and radiator are in. The FMIC piping and exhaust is go. I have my SR20 harness ready. All that I need is wiring and a driveshaft. I am super motivated to work, but I - nor any of my buddies know anything about wiring a SR20DET harness into a 280z harness. I find myself just staring into the engine bay trying to comprehend what do start with. If only I could get a start, perhaps momentum will carry me to the finish. But there is no progress because I have no clue. Trust me guys, i have been searching. Not only just this site but other Z sites as well as SR20det sites. No where did I find the answer to my question. I hate that I am such a newb at this. I dont want to send it to a shop to have it done because that would bug me more than i could stand. I have to know how to do this, I dont care if it takes me 3 times as long. I could really use some instructions on what to start with first - do I start wiring the ignition? I am sitting here looking at my chilton z&zx repair manual at the wiring diagrams. What should I be looking at? Adam

I have always been a fan of the E38 bimmer. Love the somewhat boxyness and love the lines. The G35 is great, but I now have a 1975 Datsun 280Z with an SR20det under the bonnet. So I now have two sport cars (and a jeep, cant forget the jeep) and like I said, Ive always loved the 740. So my buddy recently bought one. Black with black interior. Gorgeous car and is one of the most comfortable cars I've ever ridden in. I have a friend who imports and exports cars. And he goes to a lot of dealer only auctions and there are some clean a** cars there for pretty damn cheap. So what do you lads think? sell the G35 for a 740iL with roughly the same amount of miles (80,000)? I am gonna be scanning craigslist and starting to look at 740's around here - get an idea of what is a good deal. Also, allows me to see various issues that might arise with the car. I have a friend who used to be a BMW mechanic, and he is a helper by nature - im stoked! Just look at her....ugh gorgeous! Everything is gonna be blacked out, except a nice 19" chrome set of these: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y18/cadrifting/ohyes.jpg

74 260z build "From the middle forwards and backards!"
icapture replied to Tempered's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Keep it up man, I am enjoying this thread. But whats up with not having a cutting tool or a welder? Do you have a harbor freight around you? The stuff there is dirt cheap - and craigslist is another great place to find tool in great condition for super cheap. -
Buying up some gauges - have some questions
icapture posted a topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
So I have decided to buy up some gauges for my 1975 280Z SR20det project. Prosport 52mm tinted glass gauges: Air fuel Boost Fuel Press Oil Pressure Oil Temp Water Temp Volt (maybe)Exhaust temp AM I FORGETTING ANY? 5" Cobalt Autometer Speedo and Tach One thing I am considering doing is just putting 3 of the gauges in the stock location, then affix the rest to the top of the dash like in the third picture. The dash is in pretty bad condition, and I am going to be doing a custom fiberglass dash project which will be wrapped professionally in suede. At that point I will conceal the gauges better, but for now I think im gonna go "drift" style. It comes priced out to $868 before tax (gauges + 5" tachs) - is there a cheaper alternative? I mean, I gotta have all my gauges right? Cant be running lean or too much boost. PICS: -
Here is a little preview of the Z project
icapture replied to icapture's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
SR20DET it is... Bone stock at the moment - eventual plans are to fully build it in to a 350 bulletproof powerplant. Then either throw it back into the Z or throw it into a 510 2 door or a Datsun truck. -
Shes coming together, slowly but shes getting there...
-
Too wide you think? Dont get me wrong, only in an alternate universe could i afford $1,800 seats in my datsun. I cant even afford wheels for god sake. ugh!
-
I love this aggressive look and am wondering how one would replicate it. It doesnt look like his wheels are SUPER wide, 9" at the most I would say. And they dont look awful big either, 16" with a streched tire perhaps? As for getting it to sit that low. Am I looking at coilovers? and i would imagine with such a wide stance and low ride height I would have to cut the fenders in order to tuck the wheels. But the Flares would cover that weld. And as for cambering out the wheels like that, is that something one can only have done at the tire shop. or could i have some part on the car that would allow me to adjust it, and play with the settings? Also, when you change your camber you dont need a new alignment, right? Sorry if im n00bing out right now, but im just thinking "datsun"
