  1. It wasn't majestics call on using the B housing, it was mine. I know the E housing won't fit without using a spacer and longer studs and i wanted to avoid that. Maybe it was my bad call but i've heard others doing it and Majeastic said no problem, they've machined the B housings out many times before to accept an E wheel.
  2. Thanks Yo. Just spoke w/Kevin. He said to send it in immediately so they can fix it and get it back to us ASAP.
  3. Me too Yo. They had to machine out the B housing to fit the E wheel and use the B backing plate i believe. I'm not sure of the exact process but he sounded like he knew exactly what needed to be done. I just think it was a fluke
  4. Turbo was new, not a rebuild. I cranked it a few times without the coil wire connected just to make sure oil was getting there and then started it and let it idle for about 15 minutes. After it made the seizing sound and pulled the boot off to find it all locked up, i pulled the oil feed off and started it just to see the oil pouring out of the line...it was definetely getting oil. I'll be talking to Majestic in an hour or so and let you know jt. It was probably just an isolated event as all i've heard was good things about them. We'll see.
  5. 50trim in a T04B housing, .63 Stage III clipped, oil&water cooled, bullet nose, ported WG hole a bit bigger using a Volvo flapper. Nothing got sucked in. Compresser wheel/fins are clean. My gut tells me tolerences weren't correct...possibly when they machined out the T04B housing to accept the E wheel. Who knows. This is exactly the reason i mentioned in an earlier post about buying a turbo off of someone you really don't know..like off of ebay or something. Nice to save a couple of hundered that way but would suck if something went wrong, exactly like what just happened to me. I'm sure Kenny from Majestic will back up his product. Yep, it definetly sucks but hey, what can ya do. Rip it out and put a new one in i guess. Thanks.
  6. Buttoned it all up tonight - took two nights for the swap from the T3 to a hybrid. Never even got it out of the garage. Started it up and she idled perfect - better than it ever did with the T3. Let it idle for about 15 minutes to make sure the center section was getting lubricated nicely. Brought the r's up a little, say to 2k, and held it there for about 10 seconds and all of the sudden heard this weird seizing kind of noise..shhhooooP. Shut it down immediatly, pulled the AFM to T4 boot off to find the compressor wheel completely siezed up. Unreal. Feel bad for my cousin since this was his '83ZXT. Damn.
  7. Pulled the T3 out tonight on cousins '83ZXT. Took 1 1/2 hours, smooth as glass, no manifold bolts broken Getting his T3/T4 air shipped in tomorrow morning and hoping the install is half as easy as the removal tomorrow night. Here's my take on the turbo sizing...whatever makes you the fastest, wins I'm real curious to see how this T3/T4 makes a change in his ZXT. I know i'm going to be dying to order a hybrid after tomorrow night...well, more than i am right now anyway
  8. Do you have a dyno sheet on it? I'm not to familiar with the RB motor but you can get a good guess on optimum shifting by that. 7500...i like that
  9. Sounds like you'd know the best running those nice #'s!!! haha. Where's your tach at the trap? What rpm are you shifting out of 1st & 2nd at?
  10. Damn that is nice. You really pulled hard off the line. Top of 3rd @ 117.6mph eh? Nice. Congrats.
  11. The only reason i went with a 14" is because i had a set of ZX "star" rims laying around unused. I actually think i lowered the pressure too much, down to 20psi on the DOT tire, which concaved them in the middle a little. This was the first time i tried with a bigger tire in the rear and it helped a bunch as opposed to last time, running my street tires - 215/50/15, measuring 22" tall - i was topping out 4th gear @ 105mph at 6200rpm. That's with 3.54's. This last time with the 25" tires, i was right about were i wanted to be and crossed the line near 110mph. A little taller, like your 26"ers, would be right on the mark i think. Again, awesome runs. Any video?
  12. Thanks Joe, Brad. I put a set of 235/60x14's on my Z the last time i went to the track (25" tall) and they didn't hook worth the %^$#. Track wasn't prepped all night either but i'd really like to run slicks. Seems the way to hook up right. Without coil overs, i'm sure i'll need something thicker than the .2" spacer, which i don't think i'd feel safe doing. Thanks.
  13. Awesome, just awesome. Ok, so i see 300zx wheels on the back with the hoosiers. I know that the offset is different on these and was wondering if you used a spacer and, what size hoosiers are you running? Thanks. Nice runs. I need more speed
  14. Glad you found something. Funny - ZR8ED said this about a week and a half ago - Good call ZR8ED. Sounds like you're on your way 525. BTW - what you said here ...and you noticed that I think your "at some point" statement would have been a lot sooner than you would have liked for it to be and i'm glad you found it early without causing mojor damage. Once you put the correct head gasket on there, i'm betting your smoking problems will be gone. Good luck.
  15. Thanks Afshin. Wish my entire family (italian) would move with me but just too many hooks here in NJ so, it seems i'm STUCK here FOREVER!!! ha. Yup, i remember those days as well. Below is the first Z i owned in 1988 at the ripe age of 20. Enkie rims, big throat intake, aluminum flywheel, comp clutch & PP, 2 1/2" mandral, new floors....all to just to get beat by the salt. I sold this back in '92 with rust just gaining on the car. She ran like heck for sure. Thought i'd never get a Z again until last year or so when my current 240 just "popped up" and begged to be bought And yes, those are fog lights and louvers
  16. Figured i should chime in since my Z is popping as well now. Before, i was running 2 1/2" SS 45deg DP to 2 1/2" mandral bent exhaust to Dynomax Super Turbo muffler. Quiet (see video) and no poppong on decel. I just installed a full 3" mandral exhaust with a straight through, 3" in, 3" out muffler, the one from summit pictured below, and she pops and snarls all the way down the rpm range while backing off the throttle. I basically picked this cheap one up to run at the track because they require a muffler but i need to change it out kinda soon because it's a bit to loud for me. Everyone else, excluding wife , likes the sound of it but then again, they don't deal with it every day! haha. I'll try and get an audio clip of it this weekend and post what it sounds like. Audio over internet changes the sound a bit but i think you'd get the idea. Here's what's on there right now... Dynomax Race Magnum Bullet Mufflers Made just for racing. They may look like Glasspacks, but the Race Magnum Bullet mufflers are made just for racing. Compact and lightweight, the Bullets have a 360 degree welded outer shell and a straight-through, wrap-welded, perf-tube design for maximum flow and minimum power loss.
  17. Don't come back to NJ Afshin. Stay in nice sunny San Fran. It's a real rat race around here now. Garaged and driven mostly only on dry days. No winters. My Z isn't half as nice as Joe's judging by his pictures. This winter i'm going to have to really concentrate on the body because it's starting to show some wear. It looks better in the pics than it really is, but thanks.
  18. Sorry to hear that Kenny. Who knows how it'll all turn out but, as of now, it all seems good. Then again, just recently, i was basically in this same exact position and someone that a bunch of people on this board and other Z boards trusts, completely screwed me. So who knows. Hope it all works out for ya soon.
  19. Is a good idea Joe, i just didn't think it would spin at idle. Yours did 525? At around 750rpm? If so, i really need to buckle down and save some $ for the hybrid because my T3 does not spin down that low. If it's dragging, i'm gonna have trouble soon i guess. Glad to hear it wasn't the T. Sorry you wasted more time on my suggestion, just seemed like the same symptoms as cousins Z and figured, like you said, free and not too labor intensive. Ok, one week and you'll be loving your Z again. Fingers crossed for ya 525.
  20. You and me both 525! Thanks all for the info. 327 - please keep me posted as i think the next upgrade i want to make TO MY Z is the 370cc injectors. I don't even mind building a custom rail if need be, i'm just having a heck of a time finding the 370's around here in NJ. Doug, glad to hear that you don't think there'll be creep. Thanks for the link...i wish I had the money to buy it right now, i would. I hooked my cousin up with Kevin from Majestic already and he's going to place the order tomorrow morning, built tomorow afternoon and out the door overnight tomorrow night Not anxious or anything If this was for me, i might take the chance on spending kind of coin with someone selling it like that independantly and most likely wont give any type of warrenty but, i want to play this one safe since it's for my cousin Nick. I really have to plug a good word in here about Kevin from Majestic - He really helped me out and was very informative. Seemed like an honest, knowledgeabe businessman which is hard to find these days. Ok, can't stop thinking if i'm going with the right wheel and was wondering if someone could put it to me straight - I chose the 50trim but i'm still wondering if i should use the 57 trim instead? I'm assuming the 50 trim wont have as much lag as the 57, but might top out in the rpm range a little earlier and will limit his HP a little on the low side. Can anyone give me a round-a-bout ranges of RPM's these 2 wheels will be in thier peak efficiency? How about HP limits on each? I read the graphs but still not quite sure how to calculate the #'s i'm asking about I'd hate to go with the 50 trim and find it hits low at like 2k rpm but dies out around 5k rpm. When your running hard, the next shift usually puts you back on 3500-4k rpm anyway. I'm assuming the 57 will come on later but will probably be more efficient up top, say around 5500-6000rpm where the 50 might be flat and turning into a hair dryer. AND...now that i think of it...the 57 might be too much wheel for the internal WG and cause creep where-as, as Doug was saying, i may not creep at all with the smaller wheel! UG....Can you tell i'm trying my best to make the right decision here!!! haha. Can't imagine what i'll be going through when it's for ME! ha. Oh and BTW, Kevin's getting his guys to open the WG hole 1/2" (he said it should be near 1.25" afterword) and is putting in a Saab flapper - i think it's 1.5". I think he gave me (my cousin) a pretty darn good deal for $750 - 50 or 57E wheel in a T04B housing, .63 Stage III clipped, oil&water cooled, bullet nose, porting the WG hole and installing the flapper, adapter to weld to the DP. Even if it is a little higher than someone else, which i don't think it is, he seems like a good man and deserves my (cousins) business. Oh yeah, and said he would split the price of overnighting it. Nice. Thanks again guys. Appreciate the knowledge. Damn i wish i was ordering for me
  21. Nothing said wrong 525. If i came off wrong, didn't mean to. If you're going to try to disconnect the oil feed line, i would pull off the J-pipe first or teh AFM/T3 boot, start it and watch the compressor at idle to make YOURS doesn't spin. Mine, a friend's and my cousins did not. But, they all could be worn a little and have a little drag on them. Just wouldn't want you to cause more problems on my account. If it doesn't spin and you disconnect the feed from the passenger side, you can do it the way you suggested or just unscrew the T3 feed right out of the L adapter (you'll see what i mean when you look at it) You will have to plug this because there'll be a bit of oil pressure behind it and it gets hot quick. The oil left in the line wont get pushed because you already disconnected it from the block (feed side) and i dont thing the bearing will pull the oil. It smoked for a few seconds when first started (assuming from the oil laying on seal after we shut it down or possibly from the oil still in the line as you suggested) then it just stopped. Just to re-test, hooked the feed back up and it started smoking again. And yes, i did bring up the r's a couple of times just a little bit just to see if it would smoke with the feed disconnected - no smoke. Connected - smoked within a minute or so. Like i said, i was 99% sure his was gone considering the amount of side to side play there was on the compressor wheel. Please don't kill your T3 by doing this or i'll be written off of HybridZ Then i'll have to sell my Z haha. Good luck.
  22. Nathan - I mentioned spike because Yo2001 was having this problem with possibly some sort of restriction, as Doug mentioned and Doug seems to be creeping with a wastegate restriction. I have no idea if this setup will creep/spike/be fine until i put it in, i was just going by what i read between Yo and Doug and just wrote spike. I guess i should have mentioned both creep and/or spike. Sorry, i'll pay more attention next time. Thanks.
  23. I would have suggested you pull the AFM to T3 boot off and see if it has excessive wobble to it, but it seems you did that already. Here's a safe way to tell if your T3 spins @ idle or not (what i did on the 3 i checked) if you wanted to - With the J-pipe off, you can get a glimpse of the compressor wheel. Start it with the J-pipe off as you did and take a look down the compressor neck to see if the wheel spins or, pull the AFM to T3 boot off and watch it there. It would still be oiled that way and if you find it doesn't spin, i wouldn't think you'd need oil fed to it. And like i've mentioned somewhere in the replies, his didn't smoke on cold start either, just after it was warmed up a bit, just how you descibed. And he did have smoke out of his valve cover as well and couldn't tell that much smoke when under accelleration...why? i have no idea but that's the way it acted. Also, same scenerio as you say - I wouldn't have run his T3 without the oil feed without first feeling how much side to side play he had, and i was sure it was wasted. It was just a suggestion but it sounds like you've ruled out the rebuilt T3 so, follow your path and good luck. Hope you find the problem and find happiness.
