  1. Funny, i immediatly thought of my dirtbike when i read this topic. lol. That sure does look like a nice piece.
  2. Hopefully, when i get my cousins '78's turbo swap done with the P90A head, she'll be in the 12's or better. If not, i'm coming after you Bob!!! LOL. J/K. Bob - on a side note, are you active with the Navy? I was just down in Norfolk with the family a few months back. A family friend, Master Chief Bob Conklin, took me out on the USS Reagan for "family day" i believe it was called. Awesome.
  3. Oh, i get it... you want me to say "you were right" or "you're the best" or "what a Z master LJ is?" right? HAHA LOL. NOT! Oh yeah, thanks 8)
  4. Confirmed - he was thinking about the N47 head. This is the first time i ever worked on a HLA head and now i know, they don't use the retaining clips. Thanks and sorry about the post guys. Lock, no idea what you mean?
  5. I'm just thinking AGAIN about it.... i think he has me thinking wrong and you guys are right... this P90A head didn't have the springs EVER. When we first bought his '78 280 about a month ago, someone used a larger tappet on one of the intake valves, which is why the Z always ran on 5cyl's and we got it so cheap , and we ripped the top part of that motor apart, and i do remember the springs on that N47 head. I bet since it's been about 2 weeks since we pulled this P90A off to have rebuilt, he's confused and is thinking of the N47 head! And to boot, he's got me pulling my hair out looking for them, saying i must have thrown them out! LOL. I will find out for sure if this is the case tomorrow but now that i'm thinking about it, i bet this is the case. I think the memory goes with old age first Sorry guys if this whole post was mis-information. Will confirm tomorrow.
  6. That's real odd. I know they were on there because we (he) pulled them off. Does the top side of your rocker arms have slots in them to accept the clips? Like i said, i really don't see much of a need for them since the HLA holds up against the bottom of the arm and the center part of the arm is held down by the cam? Anyway, weird why some P90A heads with HLA's would have 'em, and i guess some don't. Learn something new each day. The ZXT that it came out of was built in 10/82. I wonder if they ditched the idea later the prodution date ZXT's?
  7. It's a P90A head and it's the retaining clips that hold the rocker arm to the Hydrolic Lifter or HLA. I'm not sure why they're even neccessary since the rocker is cupped around the ball headed HLA but i'm guessing it's some sort of saftey issue. Anyway, i appreciate the replies and the offer Joel. I called nissan and they're actually still available - $1.99/each. So my cousin make a $24 mistake and missplaced them. What burns me up is that they'll show up in about a month or two when the swap is all done! lol. Thanks again.
  8. Hey all. Finishing the build on my cousins L28ET, rockers on, ask him for the retainer springs... he lost 'em Yep, so now i have to find a set for his P90A and just wondered if anyone knew of a good place to get 'em? Also, does anyone know if they're the same between the P90 and P90A? Thanks.
  9. Safe isn't fun! I spin my hairdryer... er..umm... T3 at 16-17psi and she seems to be fine. Effecient anything past 15psi, probably not, but fun anyway Crank it up 'till she pings then back off a bit. Glad to hear it's all going smooth for ya.
  10. If you could get your hands on an F54, i'd recommend that route. I just like the idea of the siamesed cylinders. Not a big deal and nothing against the N42, just a thought. Also, you'll need a zxt exhaust manifold to bolt the T3 up too.
  11. Yes, the top picture shows the head with the ports (red arrows) which line up with the ports (red arrows) in the block in the second picture down. I wouldn't be concerned if they didn't line up but they do and the gasket does not allow coolant to pass through these. Just find it odd, if not incorrect...
  12. Hopefully, you can see what ports i'm talking about that will be covered in this pic.
  13. Thanks Yo and 525 for the responses. I just really wish i knew which is suppose to be the correct way for this to be before i bolt the head down tomorrow night, well, tonight (now 2:10am). Guess i'll try posting on other boards to see if i get any other responces and will report if i find anything else out. Thanks again.
  14. Oh yeah Yo, you just reminded me... i saved the original gasket that came out of it, and it matches up the same as the felpro with the water passages not cut out of it either. It does say "NISSAN" on it. I'm not sure if it's the original head gasket (donor car had 80k miles on it) or someone replaced it with the incorrect one, but it is the same as the FelPro 8799PT i bought to replace it. Strange huh?
  15. I'm getting ready to install my cousins refreshed P90A with a Felpro 8799PT headgasket and i'm noticing some water ports seem to be blocked by the Felpro. It looks like the passages are in the head and in the block, just not cut out of the gasket? I checked two parts places and called FelPro themselves before i ordered it and this is the headgasket they had listed for it. Actually, they said it was the same for both the L28E and ET. Anyone with any info/part #'s on this? Thanks.
  16. Yasin - I think i picked it up from importpoweronline about a year ago. They were having some sort of sale at the time i believe. It looks like they raised the price a bit to $120 now.
  17. I'm running the Walbro GSL-392 255Lph. Think i paid $105 or $110 at the time.
  18. It's really not bad at all. With a N/A motor, i'm sure it would be a bit too loud for me. The only reason i really went with that muffler was because i was headed to the track that weekend and they required a muffler. I was going to swap it out afterword but never did. If i could get a good sound clip of it, i would but, you know how sounds change transferring them over the wire. Yeah, the crash sucked. It's all straighted out, bought a '77 vented hood, in the process of picking up "new" front/rear bumpers and fiberglass headlight buckets. I still have it on the road with the smashed hood, no bumper or grill but when the snow is finally here to stay, i'll rebuild her better than before for the spring Oh yeah, i would ditch the CAT idea. Your Z didn't come with one and you're going to add it because of the smell? NONononoo... I would start by replacing the exhaust form front to rear, making sure there are no laeks at all, then go from there. I also wouldn't cut your '72 apart by adding a sunroof just to fix a problem. Is your BOV vented back in or is it venting to atmosphere - i.e., through the holes in your firewall into the cabin? Just a thought.
  19. 525 - I think you should either wait a little more, save enough money or whatever else is holding you up, and do it right the first... well... this time You see what you're about to do - cut off pipe that you've spent $ on no more than a year ago that could've been applied toward the right setup now. And i know you were hard pressed at the time but it always winds up costing more in the long run by cutting corners early. Ask me, i've made that mistake plenty of times!!! haha. Oh yeah... and what's this - ??? LOL. See how the brain works! MORE POWER! lol. Anyway, this is what i did with my exhaust and currently doing to my cousins 280 - JCWHITNEY TWO OF THESE - 90° Mandel-bent Aluminized Tubing, (A/B)=12", ©=6", ID=2-7/8", OD=3" Each 81ZX2954Y $20.99 SUMMITRACING TWO OF THESE - SUM-640030 Aluminized, 3 in. x 4 ft. exhaust tubing. Today $13.39 AND ONE OF THESE - WLK-24222 3 in. center inlet/outlet, Bullet muffler Today $35.95 If you can weld, it'll cost you nothing more than the cost of the equipment and if you can't, i wouldn;t think it would cost that much for a shop to do it. Then again, i don't know what shops charge becuase i dont take any of my cars/trucks to anyone unless absolutely neccesary. Guess it's a trust issue with me Oh yeah, money is the other big part Just an idea and opinion. Adding it up... $20.99 x 2 = $42 $13.39 x 2 = $26.80 Muffler = $36 ----------------------- Total = $104.80 + shipping + install Not the best of the best, but it'll get you basically a full 3" mandral bent system from DP to muffler and it should last a while. The cheap muffler is a straight through design also.
  20. I used a '75 tank as well. Here's a shot of the RT -
  21. 525 - i've heard and read that when they first introduced the P90A head, they were using whatever they had left of the mechanical stuff in the 3 plants. So possibly some of the earliest built '83's, like with build dates 9/82, had the p90A head with mechanicals installed. Pete - We just sent my cousins P90A head out to get boiled, seats and valves ground, milled, guides and seals - cost $300. I think he quoted another $200 to port and polish. Not sure if this helps any but hope it does. Good luck.
  22. I'm running the 6's with MSD 6A @ .042 boosting around 16psi and she pulls smooth all the way up the R's. I should get video of my boost gauge. Random thought, sorry (1:30am)
