I would say check with your phone company and see if they can give you that number or maybe get ahold of your local Police department to see if they can give you his info. They could at least ease you mind. I don't think you would be doing anything illegal if you sold it again. Just set his money off to the side. Just my.02

Thanks for the reassurance that the car will last. I am almost paid off on it and it's my last car I owe on, and don't want more payments for a LOOOONG time. Check out the fix it kit, the gaskets are not the plastic with rubber inset that shrinks and allows it to leak. I think mine are metal with a rubberized coating. I believe the kit was actually called a "fix it" kit by fel-pro

There where Elvis's in that first picture?

We had an O'Riley's in Valdosta, Ga. It opened right before I moved from there (about two years ago) and was also my choice for parts. They are not immune to idiots however. I have an 03 Grand Am GT with a 3400 engine. I noticed one oil change that my forward valve cover was full of creamy foam and I was getting a tapping noise on engine start until it warmed up a little. I looked around on line and found that one of the biggest complaints with that engine was that they used crappy seals on the intake manifold which at about 50,000 miles (I was right there) would start to fail and let water into the heads. I talked to a couple buddies who where Pontiac freaks about this and they confirmed the issue. So, next stop O'Riley's where the guy behind the counter (had a 02 Grand Am SE with a big ricer wing, graffix kit, big rims with tiny tires and a NOS kit) came out and told me that it was my head gaskets, that I should tear the engine down and rebuild the top end. I left....came back the next day and talked to someone else who told me that Mr. Gasket actually made a "fix it" kit for my exact problem. I replaced the seals and 50,000 miles later still no problem. On a side note I called the kid with the SE out twice on ricer badges. The first time was at the drag strip, he had Cobra badges on the front quarter panels. He told me he raced a Cobra and won, when he did he told the guy he wanted the badges. The second time was in the Wal-Mart parking lot with my Wife. He had GTR badges on the front. I told him I didn't know Pontiac made a Grand Am GTR, he tried to tell me it was a limited edition car. I asked him what the differences where, and he had to go...go figure. I thought that was just a Nissan thing, oh well. Not talking bad about O'Riley's, I did like them, that guy was just a ricer dork.

Hey flatblack, when I lived in Georgia if I wanted NGK's they where special order (everywhere!). Unless you had a pickem'up truck, Camero or Mustang you where SOL. Last time I went to AutoZone I bought some diff fluid for the Wife's truck and asked the guy at the counter if he had an offroad kit for a Carter or Edelbrock AFB carb. The guy told me he had no idea what that was, but he could maby special order it. I went by Baxter's on the way home and they had them on the shelf.

Just watched a few videos on youtube, but they where all MBZ on MBZ from the same period, nothing newer. My Mom had a 57 200D when I first got my licence, and I seem to remember that it had low back seats...not so good for front or rear impact, and just a lap belt... it might have had the old time shoulder strap that could connect to the lap belt. In one of the videos ( a W111 on W111 front to rear end collision) both the front and rear windows blew out of the cars. I would think that it may be marginally better then the Bel Air. Let me know if you find a better video.

Wow Tony...just how many times have you been pulled over?

So get this, pretty funny story. I was driving the Z home again last night and decided to drive through town again, what are the chances of another cop right? So I get to the Butte, just a little farther then the last time and look in the rear view... and what the F is that? The head lights are a little different, but I can see the street lights shining off the light bar on the roof. I start laughing to my self a little as I pull up to a red light, look back again... and it's a rent-a-cop.

Not even a car dollie? CRAZY! This is a little off track, but another unbelievable California story. I recently bought a 2 stroke dirt bike from my Brother (who lives in Cali). I guess they have a bunch of regulations agents 2 strokes now down there? He said he rolled it out of the back of the truck and had it sitting agents a tree in a riding area and got a ticket. My Brother told the ranger he was not riding it, but helping his Daughter on her bike. The ranger said he couldn't even have the tires in the dirt. What the heck is going on down there in Cali?

The PO of my 77 Z installed two lighted switches in the spot to the right of the hazard swith in the area that had a switch delete cover on it. One of the switches was for a set of fog lights and the other never did anything. My question is pretty easy, I know I could make a cover but it would be nice to find the correct one that will snap in place. I looked around on line and can't find one. Anyone have any ideas where to get one? I will post an ad in the wanted section as well. Thanks

How are you guys getting these pics?

This is what I had to do in Oregon to get a title for my dirt bike: Go to the DMV with the bill of sale and they will give you information on the last regestered owner of the car and a form releasing it to you. You send the form signature recept to the owner from the post office, then if they receve it hopefully they sign the papers and send them back to you. From there you go to the DMV and to a title transfer. If the package gets there, but that person no longer lives at the adress the DMV has listed, then I beleve they treat that like a lost title. Where it gets tricky (and this happend to my friend) is when they get it and don't send it back, now you have a problem. He has an investagator with the DMV trying to resolve his title problem now, and has been waiting for over six months to get his title. Again, not sure if its the same everywhere but just an example of what you may be in for.

Whats up with the yellow fuseable link?

I'm not worried about doing something wrong, just like nismo said, if you follow someone long enough (or press hard enough when pulled over) I'm sure you can make a person nervous enough to get a ticket out of them. When your getting followed for a distance by a cop where is your attention? Mine is in my rearview waiting for the pretty blue lights. Thanks for the info Masters, I will keep it in mind next time I have one all over my bumper for half my ride home.

When I was 16 my Mom had a 1967 Mercedes Benz 200D. It was a really clean car, the PO drove it to work and back every day (which was less then five miles total) and it was kept in a garage every night. My Dad bought it for her an an estate sale when the guy passed away. Anyway, I was driving home after a date one night and got stopped by the police. I pulled into a 7-11 parking lot (my first time getting pulled over) and the cop wanted to know if the car had a recent emission test because it was smoking quite a bit. I explained to him it was a diesel, and ended up spending the next fifteen minuets showing him the car. He was pretty cool and impressed with the condition of the car. Guess that's a good first encounter with the police.

Hey MastersMechanic, did the little old lady follow you to the house to get the number off your car? I would think it a little risky to follow a cop...that would be hard to explain (not to mention potentially hazardous, depending on the call). What number do you need exactly? Licence plate? I never paid that much attention, but are the cars numbered (other then the roof)? I would never do something to intentionally get myself in hot water, when I do get stopped, I make sure my hands are in the officers sight, no sudden movements, all that stuff. I try to show them as much respect as possible, and in most cases deserved. But I swear, then next time this happens, I will do whatever it takes to get the info I need and report it directly. There are way to many officers out there trying to do the right thing for the few A-holes out there to make them look bad.
-
My plates are local, and I don't mind if they follow me for a while, I don't mind if they get close to me...but after three miles a few stop lights, changing lanes, stoping so close that I cant see the head light out the back hatch of a Z? Come on...I wish he would have stoped me so I could ask him what exactly I was doing wrong.
-
Thats funny, when I got to the stop light I sereousley thought about getting out and talking to the cop, but thought a nervous a-hole with a gun and cuffs kinda got the better of me. I also thought about pulling off and turning the hazards on, but thought that would give him a reason to be a bigger a**. Just trying to do the right thing and keep my nose clean.

Maybe that's part of it... I don't think we have much crime here, maybe he just needed something to do. I can't imagine driving around here without an exhaust, I don't think I would make it a block!

Wow, once a week...profiling at it's finest! And to be honest, I don't want anyone to follow me...I want the roads to myself. Then I can finally drive my go-cart to work!

Hey Tony...nothing personal, we all make our own choices. That's what makes living where we do great. It's kinda funny, right after I moved here I was commuting about 15 miles on the highway back and forth to work at 2ish in the morning, but at that time I had a 1986 Subaru GL station wagon (not in the best shape... and yes I put my kids in it Tony) and got followed the whole way home at least once a week. I just kinda chocked it up to the car, it had "drunk or crack head" written all over it. Never got stopped though. Isn't there some law about how far you can be followed? I though I herd something once about if your followed for over a mile it's entrapment and you can't be stopped. Obvious stuff like speeding would be an exception I'm sure.
-
I know the hour was wrong, and I don't mind being followed for a while or getting my plates run... do you job, you know? But you think they would realize that people do have to work weird hours, and after a mile or so, obviously I'm not drunk or stupid, so go find someone who is.
