  1. I got pulled over in my Mom's 1967 Mercedes 200D when I was 16 or so for the same reason (in LA county). I told the cop it was a diesel, and they smoke a bit and he let me go "with a warning". Warning for what, exactly?
  2. Good for you! I'm still waiting for my rear A-arm bushings, it was a perfect weekend for a cruse up here in the north west. I can't wait though, new tune on the carb, all new rear bushings and went from 3.54's to a 3.90... should be like a whole new car.
  3. Used my brand spankin' new pin puller today. I don't see what the big deal is getting these pins out... But seriously, great tool... Got one out it about 45 min (with the aid of a little heat). Gonna start on the second one later tonight. Like I always say, you can't complain about the price of a good tool that works right. Good job on the tool, it was worth every penny.
  4. Anyone ever use this stuff called "fuel lube"? It's a supper thick sticky paste kind of stuff. We use it to seal fuel sending units that mount sideways in fuel cells. Also works great for holding nuts in sockets or sticking a nut to your finger when reaching back into places you can't see.
  5. We never used Dow 4 in the USAF while I was in (at least not that I knew of on 130's). I use it on everything as a civilian mechanic. Love the stuff and never had a problem with it.
  6. It would suck for him if you reported him to the cops for the stolen phone (using the pic of him with the gun) and they find out he's an illegal with an unregestered firearm... man you really need to report this!
  7. My father in law drove a Road Runner. I have the stock block with flat top pistons, a P90 head, Schnider (soon to be changed) .460/.460 270/280 cam, Motorsport 3 into 2 header, Arizona Z intake and Carter 500 CFM carb. Last year I was using a narrow band and my butt to tune, this year I have use of a wide band, so I should be able to get it pretty close. I love the adjustability of the Carter/Edelbrock carbs. I can compleatly re-tune it in about five min., and not pull the carb or spill any fuel. My last upgrade was a 3.90 rear end, just waiting on my rear a-arm bushings to come in to fininsh. I get to do the dreaded spindle pin removal, wish me luck! Sorry, don't want to jack your thread...
  8. If you're gonna loose in hockey, who better to loose to then the Canadians. Congrats on the game and for hosting such a great winter Olympics. Of all the country's I have ever partied in, Canada was by far the most fun, you guy's rock!
  9. You know whats kind of funny is now I am a Dad with two girls, one of which is almost 13 and will probably be dating in the next couple years. If I could, I would lock her in her room and let her out when she turns 30... but that's not practical. So instead, I have a Z... which I don't know is all that "bad a$$", but it's pretty quick, got a pretty loby cam and loud exhaust so it may be enough to keep the boys at bay. If not, I guess I'll try the line my father in law used on me. " We live in the dessert, I have a shotgun and a pickup truck... no one will ever find the body." In the end I don't know if it's so much the car the bad boy drives, but how far the bad boy is willing to push it. BTW, my Wife and I have been married for almost ten years, and I am still afraid of my Father in law.
  10. When my paerents where dating back in the mid 70's my Dad (who I would concider a "bad boy") had a 67 Firebird. My parents broke up for a while, and my Mom started dating some football player at her High School. This big stud football player drove a little VW gia. One day the football player was droping my Mom off after a date, my Dad just happends to be in the area, sees this happen, and waits for the dude to get back in his car. Long story short, my Dad chases this dude around for an hour or so, scares the crap out of him, and in 1979, I was born. So, my vote for the late 60's is the Firebird
  11. I love the S30's. I have a 77 but would one day like to get my hands on a 240. My dream car has always been a 93 300ZX TT, pearl white with black leather and T-tops to be exact. I'm like most of you, I just love cars!
  12. Hey, Thanks for the props on the pic. I worked for Epic for about a year, I was a flight line mechanic there. We focused on the post build/customer service/delivery aspect of the deal. Nice aircraft, fast, clean, but not refined. Had allot of issues typical of kit aircraft such as poor build quality while I was there, but that's what you get when you have a bunch of people not familiar with aircraft building them. My background is ten years in the Air Force as an engine mechanic on C-130's, now three years with my A&P, and planing on my IA this summer. I worked for L3 Comm. for a short while on a T-38 contract with the AF, then over at Epic, now at the local Bend FBO. We work everything from Cessna 152's to the Beechjet 400 (that's right, not even a 400A)and Cessna 425 we have on charter. The FBO is right next to Air Link, an air ambulance service that operates PC-12's, so I'm familiar with them, though never wrenched on one. I have however fixed a toilet on a Piaggio Avanti, one of the finer points in my career I'm sure... BTW Tony D, I would fly with you anytime... as long as I get a parachute!
  13. Have you looked into http://www.deltacam.com/ ? I have used them for my lifters, and had good luck. There regrinds are pretty cheep, and from what I have read on HBZ, they know there stuff. I plan to use them for a regrind myself, hopefully before much longer. Like everyone else, I recomend a Datsun/Nissan core, I have a Schnider and after about six months (following propper break in, propper springs, lash pads) I am loosing a lobe.
  14. Chances are in my case its a shady header. I just beat the CRAP out of the header, planing on somthing nicer in the future. I didn't want to mess with the thickness of the walls on the intake, not sure how much was there. It would suck to go to far!
  15. I bought the Arizona Z intake about a year ago, as stated nice piece. I had no problems with shavings, but I treated it to a solvent bath before install anyway. My car runs good, I like the simplicity of the carb over the old fuel injection. Nothing to break, and tuning easy and fun. Don't know what kind of HP I make, but its a fun dependable ride, and I like the look on peoples faces when I pop the hood. The only problem I had, and I'm not sure if it was an intake problem as much as a crappy header is that on install my intake would not sit flush on the head (a problem I found after trying to start for the first time...WOW) so make sure you don't have any clearance problems before you bolt it all together. All in all, nice part, easy install, fun ride..not for those looking for the crazy 300+ HP numbers, but I like it. Small edit: I'm sure you can build a 300+ HP N/A 4 BBL 2.8, but I would think that most of us out there interested in this part are not turbo'd or SC'd, we buy it for simplicity and just to be a little different.
  16. I dunno... I think you'r gonna need a hazmat label to ship PBR
  17. I'm not even sure the USPS would let a case of BPR over the Oregon border...
  18. Transplanted from So. Cal to Anchorage, Alaska to Valdosta, Georgia, now in Bend, Oregon and LOVIN' IT!
  19. I bought a header off ebay (can't remember sellers name) and I never got it, never even got a reply from the guy. I did what paypal recommends, filed a non-shipment which turned into a refund in my favor. However, paypal takes so long to get your money back, it gave this guy lots of time to empty his paypal account. So when it was all said and done, I got a four dollar refund on a 150.00 header. I told paypal this was crap, and wanted to know where there "buyer protection" that they talked about all the time was, and they told me that was all they could do for me. Moral of the story is watch yourself on ebay and don't trust paypal. The problem is if you buy on ebay, you have to use paypal anymore. Hope you get your money back!
  20. Heres a link that might help you out. It's for the Avitar support group, but may come in handy when you realize that HybridZ is not in fact the entire world. It may be tough to take the first step back from the screen for some of us... but trust me, theres a whole world out there, and it's beautifull! http://www.avatar-forums.com/general-avatar-forum/43-ways-cope-depression-dream-pandora-being-intangible.html
  21. Thats nothing... the last sheet metal repair I did (replaced rear bulkhead and horozontal stabilizer attach fitting) took 30 hours at 85.00 an hour- and don't forget an 850.00 service kit. Be glad you own a car and not an airplane.
  22. I have a picture somewhere of me installing a new turbo in a Cessna 210. I'm sitting down next to the engine, and the turbo takes up my entire lap. It had to be at least a 18 inches long from inlet to turbine and you could fit your fist in the intake. The engine was a TSIO 520 (turbo/supercharged injected opposed 520 CI) It's a single turbo set up for a 520 CI engine, used to turbo normalize up to 25-28,000 feet (I think) so it needs to put out ALLOT of pressure. I want to say around 40 HG?
  23. Thank God for global warming, otherwise you would really be SOL!
