  1. If only they made a cap that went over my inline 6 to make it look like a V8 I could be done and save a few bucks.
  2. Just remember you are lightyears ahead of so many of us. It looks great for now. And you are driving it. That is huge. I love the whole package and I am sure that this mood will pass and once it is all running well you will be in love again. Keep up the good work!!
  3. Davy, I can deliver them to you. Could bring them to your house while you are at work and drop them off at the side of your house or whatever. We are all toooo busy so I don't mind making life a bit easier on you. Let me know. And is it ok to take off the stainless trim and leave everything else? Later, Kyle
  4. So, I finally got the other Z in the shop. All that waiting around to have time for a flat bed truck to help get it on the loading dock and I just drove it up the loading dock ramp. I had like 1.5 inches on either side of the car but it fit. So Davy, I can get you those 280 Z panels from the 78' that I have. I can't wait to see what these panels will look like. Thought I would update. I'll PM you too.
  5. I had bought the FSM for my 78 from Courtesy. Make a back up copy as mine suddenly stopped playing one day. No scratches or anything and it won't play in any computer. But while it was working it was great. I had a three ring binder and I printed the sections double sided like a book and put them in it. If they got greasy I could re-print them. All in all I was very happy with it. I now have a 77 280 that I am restoring and was able to obtain a copy of the fsm on cd for that year. Worth its weight in gold IMO.
  6. Just have a meeting with the landlady and show her the pics. Have her sign something showing that she is aware of the condition apon move in. I would bring it to her attention now. Not like she can't see the high seas for herself. You could always take the pictures and print them and have a notary stamp them. It will cost you like 15 bucks but would be better than mailing them in court. Nice garage by the way. Too jealous.
  7. You all are awesome. In just minutes while making breakfast I got my answer. I thought that was all there was to it but apon first trying and it didn't come easily I thought better to ask. I will have it removed by the end of day. Thanks again, Kyle
  8. So apon search all I found was how to remove the rail for a permanant shaved look. I do not want to go this route as it will add time to the project. However, how do I get this darn thing off so I can finish body work. I want to make sure there is no rust around that area and also have it powdercoated. Do I just pry it off? Is there a trick so it doesn't get bent? Thanks all, Kyle
  9. Thanks for the reply. Really it was just because most people here refer to the two part paints they get as epoxy paints. That I guess was where my confusion started. The "Featheredge" stuff I used from Evercoat seems really nice. It sands super easily and doesn't clog paper. The cure time I think was quick as I left it over night in a cold shop and it was fully cured by morning. I had no real need for actual epoxy paint. I have a project I am working on and I was hand laying up fiberglass matt with epoxy resin (non car related). I thought I would overcoat it with epoxy paint for a better paint to surface bond. Thanks for the info. I thought there really was an epoxy paint out there. It just confused me when I was told there was not. So people are using Urethanes for the most part aye?
  10. How hard was it to take off? Did you need to use solvent?
  11. We should have a review section here. Just cause this was talked about like a month ago. It would allow us to look at products that we all use and see reviews that others have given them. It would have to be formatted different than the regular blog format. But if there was a way to see things like on a consumer review page. Might be cool and it would save us time. I could just look at the ModernMotorsport etc and see what you all like. Or view paints and manufacturers and see what you all liked too. Could save a lot of redundant questions. Just a thought
  12. I went the other day to buy some black epoxy primer. Went to two different paint stores. Second one told me that there really is no such thing as "epoxy" primer. That they are Urethanes and two part catalizing paints. The term epoxy is used to represent a two part mix and cure. Is this true? I ended up trying a product that is new to me and I haven't heard of. It is made by Evercoat and it is called "Featheredge" It is a two part polyester primer that is supposed to fill well as well as sand well. I sprayed some on my car last night and we shall see. It sprayed well. I am at the stage where I am trying to get some color on the car to help me finish the body work. I didn't spray the whole thing yet. But the stuff is pretty cheap at 20 dollars a quart and 50 something a gallon. Any opionions on the Evercoat product? Anyone want to tell me if I was told the truth about "Epoxy" paints? Thanks all
  13. Need one in a RC car. Now that thing would be fast.
  14. Thanks. I think I will use the budy system. Thought I would see if there were any problems but as mentioned it sounds pretty straight forward. Today I sanded and applied some filler to some low spots. Also removed the rear hatch seal and wire wheeled away all remaining rubber. Also removed the tail light seals and wire wheeled that too. Almost no rust at all in the rear hatch area on the body. The hatch itself will need to be replaced though. Weird. At least I have a spare. Thanks for the encouragement.
  15. Thanks all. I guess it is hard to digest what should be done sometimes. I get so jealous looking at others projects after they are done. That should be motivation enough. I guess it is. If it weren't for this site I wouldn't have started this project at all. What is the approved way you all take your doors off? I think that should be my next step. I will stay motivated and keep you all posted. Thanks for everything.
  16. Allright. So the interior is mostly out. I just took the rear hatch off and hood off. I have been painstakingly working the body for a while now. Side markers and rivet holes shaved. I am finding little bits of rust everywhere. Nothing too big. I still have to replace a bit of metal at the drivers rocker and drivers rear lower quarter panel. As well as the lower portions of both fenders. It is seemingly never ending work. Go figure. I am at the point where I feel like I have barely scratched the surface of this thing and am a bit overwwhelmed. I usually only spend two to four hours a week on it too. I still want to take all the glass out, the rest of the interior, and motor. There is sooo much to do. At this point I would be happy if I just got it primed and straight with the stock motor in and running. Everything else can come later down the road. But that would suck if I didn't put the color and clear on it with everything stripped. How far do I bring this thing? I see so many of you with fully striped cars that have just gotten paint and it looks awesome. Do I spend the time with all the undercoating removal? What about the interior sound deadening material? Do I just leave it as is and get the body clean and painted? I'm trying to finish grad school, arghhh. I will then have to find another job. Or I should anyway. Then I have the pressure to move back east closer to the wifes and my family come the summer time. I need this thing to at least get onto a trailer and get shipped to me back east. Who knows if I will have a garage to put it in or even a parking space. Time is running out and I am just feeling way overwhelmed. Someone light a fire under my *** and tell me some good advice as to what I should do. Inevitably I know I just need to find 20 hours a week for a while and just move on it. I've never done this to a car and I know if I did things correctly it would take way less time. Show me the way oh wise men of the Z world. Thanks for listening.
  17. DAMNNN!!! I wouldn't want to live near that guy. I can't even begin to imagine how long that took to put together. It was so cool though.
  18. So this is a link to the pics I took Sat. at the show. They are hosted on SnapFish so all should be able to view. Well, I think you need a snapfich account. They are free anyway. I can put them on another server if there is another one to host for free. Let me know and enjoy. http://www.snapfish.com/thumbnailshare/AlbumID=32250647/a=6892313_6892313/t_=6892313 photo hpim1805 was the only Datsun showing. Not much for a showing. My car is in better shape. Lol.
  19. Since I forgot to measure the inside diameter of the wheel. Idiot!!! Does anyone know if they will fit around the caliper? I don't mind spacers as much as them not fitting at all. Since they are so common I was hoping someone either has them to measure or knows if they fit cause they are using them. Thanks guys, Kyle
  20. Certainly been covered here a lot. But to quickly recap: Insert picture of Z with the whole thing circled. Ha ha, Anyway: Frame rails, floor boards, rear hatch area, battery tray area and around it. Lowest part of fenders tend to rot, Rocker panels, rear lower part of quarter panels, around drip rails, and bottom of the doors. I am sure I missed something. But these cars are old and rust. Bring a magnet to check for bondo fillers, don't be afraid to poke and knock on some panels to hear and feel how solid they are. Bring a battery with you if he says that is a reason it won't start. At least you can check guages, lights etc with it if it won't turn over. Good luck and welcome.
  21. Really depends on the tree. Some do certainly. Some change color too. For the most part it stays green here all winter though. Lemon trees don't loose there leaves. In fact it is winter when they are ripe. It took a while for me to get used to things since I am a new englander and now live in Oakland. I'd say it is 1/10th what the North East looses in leaves.
  22. So what happens when the "gobaby" switch is flipped? Two fuel pumps. I didn't realize that was like a boost.
  23. Hey, that's my number. Ha sorry. I did try reverse search for you but apparenty it is a non listed number. No luck. Hopefully someone can help you out. What did he/she do to you?
  24. So I just looked at a set of old school Enkie mesh wheels today. They are in great shape and would look good on the Z. Plus I don't think I will ever hear back from Konig about the Nasa deal. They are 14 diameter and the whole thing is 9 inches wide.(sidewall to sidewall) I am thinking the rims are 7" or so though. Here is the link to the pics of them: http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=4875&cat=500&page=1 If you all think they will fit then yeah!! They are cheap as wheels go. He is asking 250.00 for all four with no tires. Is this good in your opinions? Anyway, thanks as always, Kyle
