    3.1 cost

Another option is to just have a reputable engine shop build the whole thing. I have had quotes from Rebello for a 3.1L coming in around $5k. That's not bad for an entire long block in my book!! HizAndHerz, where in TX are ya?
  2. I just want to clear something up to make sure that you are getting the information you are seeking. In your post you say that you are using the stock L28 crank yet later on you state that you are working on an overbored/stroker engine. If you are using the stock L28 crank you are not building a stroker, if you are using the LD28 crank then you are building a stroker. Which crank are you using? If the LD28 then you will certainly be getting the piston closer to the valve...so much so that you will have to use a 2mm head gasket (iirc) to prevent impact.
  3. 1 fast z, please provide more specs on this engine. Block? Crank? etc, etc. This is very interesting!!
  4. This one on eBay has been relisted with a reserve of only $500 and a Buy-It-Now of $800 now...act quickly!!
  5. It has been done to a Z already: http://www.pape.ws/allan_and_rosanne/Z-Car_Stuff/VeggieCar/
  6. Yes! I paid about $200 for the ones I got only about 2-3 years ago. No I'm not selling either.
  7. The '73 SUs were the flat-top not round-tops. The difference in the flat-top and round-top is VERY obvious, the flat-tops have a 90* angle at the top edge whereas the round-tops are...well...rounded. If you got round-tops off of a '73 car someone had swapped them at some point in the car's 33 year life...and this is a good thing as the flat-tops are worthless.
  8. The '83s also had the P90a head which is the one with hydrolic lifters.

Sounds ok to me, and if you pass on it please tell him that I'll take it. This sounds like something I'd be able to fix up.
  10. Yep, I was watching that auction and that is a shockingly cheap price; MSA sells them for $1800 as I recall. Although you have a good point, the kit is not the end of your expenses on that engine build. There's a lot of machine work, proper balancing, and several other little tid-bits that start to add up after you put it all together.
  11. bjhines, oh my someone who is far more knowledgable and respected in the Z community that I has supported much of what I stated!! Fancy that. In answer to your question, NO I do not have Webbers I have Mikuni carbs. I never said anything specific to Webbers, Mikuni, or any other carb manufacturer...just that a turbo triple carb setup will work and has been done time and time again over the years. And I have to agree with jmortensen's last post!
  12. Pistons shaved, I have no idea maybe depending upon your application. Balanced, DEFINATELY! You MUST balance the ENTIRE rotating assembly when you do a stroker.
  13. I just wanted to add this to the discussion. A while back there was a LONG thread about Wangan midnight...that car is a turbo stroker with triple Mikuni carbs as I recall. That should show that not only can it be done, it can be done very well.
  14. To further explain about the rod bolts, the 9mm of course is preferred because it's a bit larger the thus stronger...now if you have the 8mm ones they will work just fine, and as I understand it ARP now has the 8mm bolts available so you could upgrade to them and be just as well off as having the 9mm (maybe better). In any case if you are not building up a serious race engine then the difference between the 8 and 9mm bolts will not matter. JessZ, the '71 rods that were asked about are 8mm (providing that they are stock). I do not know if you could drill and tap the 8mm rods to a 9mm bolt...this may be possible...then again read my first paragraph about why you may want more strength and you may decide that it's not worth it. Hope this helps.
  15. Try Nissan, what you are looking for are stock pistons for an '80-83 non-turbo 280ZX. I agree with jmortensen though, get the 240Z pistons from a '73 (these are the ones with the 9mm bolts); then get an LD28 crank and some larger pistons and you have yourself a nice stroker!
  16. Looks just like the "Kakimoto" and the "Datsun 3100" both of which I have just learned about this weekend. There's a link here which shows pix of the Kakimoto one and look at the post on classiczcars for a pic of the Datsun 3100 cover.
  17. On this site the new post indicator is not working. You know how a thread topic will show as bold when a new post has been made since your last visit. Well I'm on here daily and I have threads that have not been posted to for days, some over a week showing in bold as if a new post has been made to it since last time I visited. This is the only forum I'm a member of doing this so it's not an issue with my system not accepting cookies or anything like that (not globally at least). Any ideas???
  18. I don't see why now, there are different people on both forums...only a few that are on both. Thus he will gain the maximum amount of info from the largest number of people.
  19. That is correct! The ONLY difference is the lettering on the top. There are 5 that I have seen and are as follows: "NISSAN OHC" "NISSAN 2400 OHC" "NISSAN" "TURBO" "" <---------this one is blank on top, I believe this to be a modification (i.e. ground off letters) Furthermore, if you have the 2400 or NISSAN styles and wish to sell them to me for a fair price I'm always on the lookout for one of these.

  21. tamtrong, I know that this is a logn thread...I still have to ask if you have bothered to read it? VLC is the player you need to download, this has been mentioned several times in this thread already. Subtitles...nobody seems to have the subtitled version of the movie and if they do they are not speaking up nor offering it up to the group. There are some people talking about how to get it subtitled though. This topic too has been discussed many times in this thread. Please read through it. I'm glad that you were able to download the vid from my site, I'm always glad to give back to the Z community. Man you guys really love this movie as much as I do...you've all been killing my bandwidth for the past couple weeks (those downloading stuff from the site that is)!
  22. No, that's what the stuff is there for. I had not publicized that I had that video yet and was wondering why there was so much traffic...now I know. And now everyone else knows, if you are still seeking this video you now have another option for download locations.
