This is great. Is it too late to get on the list? If not, then please add me! Questions: How much more power and torque vs the Sanderson 1+3/4" headers would you expect on say, a 440rwhp ls motor? Would there be any additional clearance problems for the 1+7/8" primaries vs the 1+3/4"? f.e. would spark plug boots melt like they do with the Sandersons? Would the 1+3/4" melt them? Will there be plenty of access to tighten bolts or v-bands or change gaskets in place? To remove and reinstall the back-half of the exhaust? -
MAS28O brought his LSX RX-7 down to the Texas Mile this weekend and so the fabricator finally became motivated enough to work on my car in the days leading up to the event. He repaired a section of the stainless steel exhaust that was collapsed; he and a friend of his did the fuel system (push-pin type), brake and clutch pedals and line bleeding, radiator and fan, Datsun to LS throttle linkage, and most of all cleaned up the wiring. He didn't have it running by the time mas28O got to town on wed., but continued to work on new issues that popped up. '75 fuel tank return line was blocked. No amount of air pressure was going to break the rust free. Also, he traced a wiring issue down to a crimp that had come loose within the harness that Dynotech Engineering supplied to Joey originally. The car started up Thursday evening and the tank return line was successfully bypassed early Friday morning. The fabricator attached an OBDII diagnostic port from his own truck since mine turned up missing. He continued to clean up the wiring inside when I left at 4 in the morning. I drove the car to get inspected Friday afternoon and then it was off to the races to meet mas28O at SA Raceway. we both got two passes before 11pm closing time. He did a best of 11.0 @ 133 in the RX-7 and I did a best of 11.5 @ 127. There is much room for improvement on the car and with those performance numbers. mas went on to do 196.2 at the Texas Mile, all motor. I drove the Z the 100 miles over to watch. btw, there was a maroon '78 280Z at the Texas Mile that did 165.5mph. His plates read "V8 ZZZ", Texas. Does he post here? Thanks for that offer of help, Sparky.

Greetings to those who posted concern for my well-being. It's appreciated. My life could have been over but thankfully it's not. I had a lingering seatbelt injury for a couple of months but the rest were just very minor cuts and bruises. My FantaZ is not over either. I purchased a '75 Z two days after this accident to swap the good parts into. I had someone who I thought would help me get back on the road by now that mas28O had referred me to, but he has not helped one bit since mas was in town. I was going to pay him to swap the stuff over. He even has a key to the storage location to get started. Oh well since that fell through I've had to farm the work out here and there and do a little bit myself. I bought the '77 from Joey because I already had a 5+ year nightmare project car at that time and was tired of waiting for the rewards. I wanted a finished turnkey product. After a couple of passes at the track in S.A. stuff started breaking. First the diff mount and all the damage that caused. Then the transmission, then the motor. Transmission was rebuilt by LMR in Houston. I drove over there and back on two successive Saturdays for that. Mas28O had the motor from his RX-7 rebuilt and shipped it to me. Mountains of money flowing out since the initial purchase of the car. OK so I have a rebuilt and better car right? The guy that has not helped me with the current Z actually had everything PERFECT in the '77. I paid him to work out electrical gremlins and fix the little details that made this car better than when purchased. Problems with misses in the new motor led me to take it to a shop to do a crank relearn procedure as they had the tools. I called the fabricator up and was headed back to his home garage. I called mas up and described the incredible feeling of power in the new motor. It was awesome, literally! Realize that most of the time the Z had been in S.A. it had been in a shop being worked on. Didn't even have the time to think about the expense of tires with all the other major problems. Besides, I had a pair of Mickey Thompson's for the car at home. I was enjoying it so much that I did not want to take the exit to the guy's house just yet so I kept on driving around the loop. That decision cost me dearly, to say the least. I was only a couple more miles from home. NO ONE hurt more than me by this crash...but I apologize to the HybridZ community and to Joey for ruining such a beautiful Z nonetheless. I put all my heart and desire and money into getting the FantaZ perfected and it's gone now.

Thanks. I'll be back out there soon enough. The bolts were 3/8". I borrowed a jack and saw that it didn't come from the driveshaft. It was probably the diff mount as I was already warned to check those periodically. I'll check it out later after I wake up. It's the transmission I'm most concerned about though.

I was at San Antonio Raceway's Midnight Madness event tonight, and I ran a best of 12.0@122, 2.0 60ft on bald street radials. Unfortunately I lost to a small-block Ford-powered ~79ish RX-7 on slicks and the bottle AND I broke some bolts on that pass. The RX-7 did an 11.6@120. I tried one more pass because I wanted to break into the 11s, but there was just too much vibration somewhere underneath to go all out. 12.7@113 on that pass, but at least I stomped a 350Z. On the way back home, 4th to 5th and 5th to 6th shifts were grinding, so it looks like it's back to the shop this week. I also lost my driver's side Z emblem somewhere along the line. For comparison, my previous small-block Z's best all-motor pass was 12.90@~107. With a 150-shot it did 11.90@124. Mas28O was driving on both of those passes. I recall that he was using my street radials, but he says we had some drag radials on. All I know is the car didn't hook up that night. Still, I was on bald street tires tonight and almost got my all-motor pass better than that previous N2O pass. Overall, it was a great experience that I wanted to share. A few people sent compliments my way on the car (those should all go to LS1 Z for building it and making it look great.) I thinks that's remarkable considering there were over 200 other fast cars there. Made it home safe. Next time I'll drive out there with the Mickey Thompsons.

networked PS3, GT5 Prologue and GT4 here, sorry.

I saw this Z in person about three weeks ago when Justin was working on the Z I had just bought from Joey (Orinda). I was afraid to get too close because it looks too fast just parked there!
-
Thanks. It feels good. You should go for it! I hope Joey sees this thread before it falls off. I know mas is out there enjoyng Hawaii sunsets with his family so he probably won't see it soon.

Oh shoot, I never should have given away my location. haha I should have stopped at Del Rio. Man, that's a beautiful looking Z in your sig. Do you ever take it to the Marion track?

Interesting that you bring A/C up. Up in northern California I guess they don't feel the need for air conditioning, even in the house. But I tell you, most of the time I was there it felt like Texas...especially at ThunderHill. I am probably going to add cold air soon. The air was nice and cool from Tuscon all the way home, thankfully.

I haven't had a hybrid Z in about 10 years until now. Thanks to mas28O for hooking me up with LS1 Z, I'm now once again enjoying a V-8 powered 280Z. I flew out to California for a brief vacation and to buy LS1 Z's 1977 280Z. The power is incredible and the enjoyment while driving it is immeasurable. One thing that is particularly impressive about this car is the gas mileage. I was driving around 80-87mph down IH-10 through Arizona and New Mexico and it didn't seem to affect gas mileage much. From San Ramon, California to Del Rio, Texas, I drove the car 1709 miles and averaged 28 mpg. The total trip was 1875 miles from Danville, CA to San Antonio, TX. Thanks to Mike and Joey for helping me relive the FantaZ.

Sure thing, it's a shop. Here's the info: Beeville Automatic Transmission 1503 S. Washington Beeville, Texas 361.358.5121 bautotra at lonestarinternet dot net Over 30 years in business Hope everything works out for your project.

I know someone in Beeville who built me a TH 700-R4 and a TH 350 to go behind a ~400 HP 350 Chevy motor in a Z in which the block came from City Motor Supply in Dallas...cast crank/rods/pistons. He also built me a rock solid TH-350 for an '84 Monte Carlo w/ ~300HP 5.7L.. It's all in the kit though. Bring him the trans and the right kit including heavy-duty clutches and he'll put it all together for you, drill the plates, whatever you want. He studies transmissions all the time to keep abreast of the latest and greatest available and to keep on top of all the tips and tricks of the trade. And if you're unsure of what kit to get, he told me one time that he could have gotten me the same kit which I paid $900 for to go into a 4R70-W, for half the price using factory parts. Next time, I'll go to him first to see if he can save me a buck on parts too.

Would you clarify that a little bit?higher engine rpm...compared to what? lower gear ratio...compared to what? more torque...compared to what? Thanks.

I think some V8 guys wish there cars sounded like this!

Ummm, no. In fact, I hate that sound and anything like it. -
It appears that the site blocks the clips that are downloaded from a remote Web site directly. They want you to use their stupid video plugin THAT BAD I guess. However, I think they do it manually whenever they look at HTTP Referrers logs. That clip was of some tank with 20+" rims all around taunting police.
