Hey Dale I think you missed the Z32 in his Question. Lazd if you are asking about 4.08 R200v shortnose it is the same amount of work as R230, 2 sets of axles (4 in total) for inner CVs, Custom axle shafts, longer driveshaft, Z32 driveshaft for uni flange, outer flange adapters, custom front and rear mounts. Use the sites search function under R230 for further info on swap. You might consider fitting LS centre into a longnose R200. Neil

Hi Wayne, 90-96 Q45 with 3.538 R200v uses the beefier 100mm CV 30-31? spline axles. Most other Nissan applications use the 90mm CV 27-28? spline axles with exception of 200-240SX which use tripod CV with a 27 spline axle. When the strength of R200s has ever been discussed the weak point has always seemed to fall on the axles which is probably why the Q45 V8 uses the beefiest axles. Hope this helps . Neil

Hi Maichor, Now your touching on the crux of this issue and the strength of R200s vs the added size and weight of an R230. Then theres the cost in extra fabrication (axles and mounting) vs fitting any of the many lsd centres to a longnose R200. There is not a lot of point going to the expense of putting in a shortnose R200 vlsd given the above option unless you get the diff cheap or you want a shorter ratio for taller wheel and tyre combo. Also the VLSD is better suited to a road car which should also be taken into consideration when assessing the viability of this swap if your considering track use. Lets keep the discussion rolling. Neil Edit. Only on my bad days Tim, yes you did say Q45 my apologies!

Hi Tim, Many thanks to Drax for his pics which if you look closely shows that an R230 has a 10 bolt rear cover. The two R200s, long and short nose both have an 8 bolt rear cover. I have to say that it is extremely frustrating Tim that you keep promoting your pic as an R230 which keeps the mis-info on this issue alive. To anyone requiring more info there is ample to be found using the search function: Neil

Thats it, I give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Neil

Hi sGt I doubt you will get much out of Nissan. Since you were talking Aus dollars I made the assumption that that is where you live. Check yellow pages for nearest Z specialist wrecker or workshop which is where you will find parts and info. All the best Neil

ThunderZ aren't cars a fun hobby! Check for any blockages in fuel line, tank pickup etc. Check vacuum and mechanical advances in distributer. If you have correct tools set valve clearances to spec, seats wear and valves stretch which is why FSM recommends periodic adjustment. As to any issue with your actual carb setup, someone else with experience of this setup will need to chip in. Check that you didn't get sold a "dud" pump ie that it does pump enough fuel. Good luck Neil.

Hi Hubbo, A quick run down of my project goes like this, brakes & susp you know other than fully adj coilover Bilstiens, eng & trans lexus 4lt quad cam-man? R200 Viscous lsd. Modified GTO fibreglass kit to make 275 Ferrari lookalike convertible. Custom dash etc. As to 280zx front end, there is nothing wrong specifically, I am going to use it with a brake calliper adapter. But I want to use 15x7 wheels and retain the deep centres. If you modify it to a later model you get the later 100mm caliper mounting, positive offset steering geometry, current wheel offset 0f around 40mm and a greater choice of wheels other than three piece Simmons ,Roh,Compomotive. And with the hub separate from the strut you have greater suspension choices. Yes it takes more calculation and effort! Depends on what you want to do with your dollars, I'm not into sound systems, wings and skirts. Ooooh was I letting my age slip in there. Hey Zrossa how often do they come up and how many do you reckon you have down there as I wouldn't mind one but wasn't prepared to go to a lot of hassle to get one. I guess rust is a big problem as it is for us here. Neil.

Hi sGt Dont think you can used 280ZX trans, the trans housings have different part Nos also the Turbos use Borg Warner T5s and the part Nos for the clutch housings for 280ZX Turbo and Z31 Turbo are different. To save time and money you will find that if a drawing is atypical it repeats in the next models service manual even though there may be dimensional differences in components. Make sure you can still access the oil filter after fitment. Neil

Good to see your still around Hubbo, Since I first got into Zs Ive been collecting interesting ads out of Unique cars magazine. Fitting a multi-link rear out of skyline or S14-15 200SX is quite feasable I have pics of S13 Multi link under my spare car. I have Z31 frontend that I nearly put in mine but decided to stay with the 280 stuff with the brakes I'm using, which are Skyline Front 280mm Dia 26mm thick DBA 4953 with twin spot NavaraV6 calipers Z31 Master and Z31 rear rotor with Series2 280ZX calipers and trailing arms with Z31 caliper mounts. Use of S14-15 or Skyline struts and lower arms etc is also feasible in the front. which is why I suggested using complete drivetrain and suspension. Ive allowed aud$30,000+ on my project so your budget is not unrealistic if you go the whole hog, just dont expect to get it back later on. The problem with finding a 2 seater in Japan is that it will probably have sat in junkyard for 20 Years, you might get a better car out of the US and convert it RHD. Good luck Neil.

G'day Hubbo. Took me awhile to find the info I was looking for but heres some info you might find useful. Firstly Aus 2 seaters sold in the last 2 years; 1 (07) 5491 2180 Aud$5000 black or green hardtop 2 (07) 5485 0513 Aud$15000 black hardtop You may wish to follow up who bought them if you really want 2 seater and your import idea falls through. Secondly there was a highly modified 280ZX (AIR 280) 0414 977 313 Aud$14500 also sold in the last year or so that may be right up your alley, that you may also want to follow up on. Also if you want to do a radical upgrade of mechanicals look at swapping in the complete drive train and suspension from Skyline 2WD or AWD. You end up with 5 stud hubs for a better choice of wheels, big brakes, RB25 or RB26 engine would easily fit in your dream budget. All the best Neil.

Hi sGt Looks like you got hung out to dry awhile. VG 30det mounts are slightly higher and wider so an adapter shouldn't be too hard to make. Engine position is similar because of the right bank exhaust running across the top of the bellhousing to feed the turbo on the left side, probably have to make heat shield for firewall. Use the VG trans as different to 280ZX. Tower widths are nearly the same between Z31 & 280ZX but the chassis rails are wider on Z31. VG30det should be slightly lighter but not by much I would think. RB30s are pretty cheap also. Good luck . Neil

Hi J I meant if the leads went to adjacent cylinders at the head, to do a compression test. Good luck. Neil
-
Hi J If the 2 cyls that show no response are beside each other, do a compression test, you may have blown the head gasket between cyls. Check for any vac leaks, EGR,PCV etc. Neil

Welcome aboard Ashok. The value of any kit or modified car is what you do and how you do it and whether it is done to suit yourself or what apeals to others. Of course any rebodied Ferrari 330 or 275 is going to be worth megabucks if done as per the original 250 GTO. When talking about the datsun kit, it is only a lookalike not a replica, as a closer examination reveals many body discrepencies. Most tail light and dash kits aren't much like the original. As to V12s I suggest you do a search because while it draws a great wow factor, the weight distribution spoils the handling of a good car. To finish off we've had a couple of modified L6 powered GTO kits sell around Aus$30,000 or about US$20,000. Just dont expect to spend $20,000 and have a car worth $50,000. All the best. Neil

Well I thought this issue was done and dusted. http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=33834 Apart from the different shortnose casing and short pinion shaft all R200s are the same, the bearings, seals and the spacing on the rear cover bolts. Which is how I can tell from Tims pic that it is R200, he also stated that it is early Q45 which is a 3.538 R200. Iskone if what you are looking at is a 300zxTT with a 3.692 ratio then it is R230. Note that after 96 Nissan dropped the orange viscous sticker. Neil
-
Hate to spoil your day Tim but that pic is of a late R200 not R230. Neil

R390Sport, 280zx FSM lists hot adjustment as 0.010inch intake and 0.012inch exhaust Neil

Hi xbangu I had a similar problem when I swapped wiring out of an 81 280ZX into a 79 and had to swap the ignition switches as well, as they were wired differently and did exactly as you described. So I would check how your igntion wiring goes and modify as necessary. Neil

Thanks Chris, The SAN 2655 wasn't in the listing I had, found a better listing here! http://www.upgrademotoring.com/performance/kaaz/nissan.htm and good price here! http:/www.trixracing.com/productdetails.aspx?ProductID=14954 For anyone else thats interested. Neil

Hi Thaniel Glad to see that you have made some progress. R34 Skyline uses a 6 speed Getrag but it probably has a Hi tech type driveshaft also! S15 Silvias also use a 6 speed probably closely related to the 350Z. Keep us posted Neil

problem, what would cause your car to wheel hop....
zxgts-4 replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hi Mike Check you dont have broken or loose trans or engine mounts which could also cause low speed vibration, just another possibility. Neil -
Hi Chris Do you remember the model No of your KAAZ diff centre? What gear ratio are you using it with? How well does it work and how noisy? Info would be greatly appreciated! Neil

I need pictures of the bottom R34 GT-R Clips.

FYI if it is the same one I downloaded October 2003 it doesn't have chassis dimension specs in the body section as other Nissan Manuals normally would. Neil
