  1. Here are some photos of different mounts I have come across. The mounts on the left were made by Brad D. The ones on the right were made by Castlemaine Rod Shop in Australia. There part number is EM81 3 Litre Turbo RB30 To Datsun 260Z http://www.rodshop.com.au/mounts.htm I have not noticed any difference between the RB series block mounting points. The RB20 and RB30 blocks I have both line up the same. From the photos you can see the Castlemaine mounts position the motor about an inch lower. Brad D was selling mounts at one time for $100.00US. The Castlemaine versions are around $150 Australian. I purchased them from a guy that mistakenly bought them for his Skyline.
  2. RB installs in the S30 (240Z, 260Z, and 280Z) series are all custom works. No one to my knowledge is producing a complete install kit simular to those for the 240SX bodies. Creativity and experimentation are your best tools.

It is going to be a long drawn out process for me.

  5. You could always transplant the RB26 into your 240SX. Then you have comfort and all the power you need.
  6. Come down to Sacramento. 3 Turbo Z's that I know of have met the crusher already. F54 blocks appear in Pick-N-Pull all the time. One is sitting in the Rancho Cordova yard right now.

  9. Thanks Ross C, You pretty much answered my questions about the adapters. The Japanese always come up with some crazy designs. The pictures posted are the same as the link to the yahoo jp site. Your adapters are a much better concept and design.

I am new to the CV conversion process. This looked like an interesting alternative to the Modern Motorsports adapters. Most likely I'll be going with their adapters as they are proven to work. As for binding issues, I'm not to sure about the geometry of them to call. The tanslation from th write up is not to clear. This may be an interesting milling project for me to try.
  11. Does anyone have any opinions on this type of CV adapter? They are using shafts from an R31 Skyline with a R200. My thoughts would be to machine a similar adapter to use the ZXT 6 bolt CV's. The Modern Motorsport CV adapters require removal of the stubs. This type of setup is a straight bolt on.
  12. I have been to the Venus warehouse here in Sacrameto. They do have good stuff. Personnaly, I prefer a front clip that is bent up from a wreck. At least then you knew it was running. My RB20 Skyline clip came with all underdash and hood wiring uncut.
  13. An L28 with triple 50mm Solex's has a great exotic sound.
  14. My plans are to use the stock RB wires and ECU. Everything from under the dash to out the fire wall.

As my Z is RHD, no major modifications should be necessary. I was very careful about removing the engine and trans from the Skyline front clip without cutting any wires.
  16. I purchased one of Show-Cars G-Nose assembly a few months ago. It needs alot and I do mean alot of finnishing work. The glass was paper thin in several areas. I am going to mold it into fiberglass fenders recently acquired.
  17. This is just a heads-up about "Showcars" G-Nose. Be ready to do alot, and I mean alot, of finnishing work. Headlight areas need to be cut out, mounting holes need to be drilled, and you have to fabricate some additional support brackets. It will work fine for my purposes, just don't expect a bolt-on item
  18. ayobreezie, I am in Elk Grove and in the middle of swapping an RB20 into my 78 Fairlady-Z. Perhaps we could compare notes and ideas. A fair amount of imagination and creativity seems to be a must when doing one of these swaps.
  19. zrl, That jagsthatrun page sums it up very well about California engine swaps. I have dealt with the referees in the past and have had no problems with them. If it passes CA stardards then it would be legal anywhere in the U.S.
  20. Here is a good one for everyone to ponder about this subject. I am in the process of swapping an RB20DET into a 1978 Fairlady-Z. It is not going to have any special or unique modifications. It will even have a catalytic converter and AC. According to CA law, an engine swap is legal as long as all emission control gear is retained. True, the RB series engines were never imported into the US domestic market. But... my 2.0 liter Z never was either.
