So the specs are correct? The machinist and I are what people would call old school in our ways.

My machinist brought up a question about the R32 service manual specifications. On page EN-73 it states clearances of: Intakes to be 0.45 +or- 0.03 Exhaust to be 0.38 +or- 0.03 Should not these specs be reversed? His reasoning being the exhaust side heats up and expands more and would logicaly need more clearance. And.. Does anyone have a source they would recommend for ordering the shims?

Two years ago I cut up a 76 2+2 in my drive way with a Harbor Freight 4 1/2 inch cutting wheel. Of course I went through about 20 wheels but it was interesting cutting it up. The chunks were small enough to fit in my garbage receptical. It was kind of funny as I kept it under an old car cover. The cover kept getting smaller and smaller until there was nothing left! It took about 6 weeks to get rid of all the small pieces.

Here is a photo of the RB26 rods compared to the RB30's. I like the idea of the low end torque and not needing high rev's to make power. Obviously this hybrid combination works. Almost anything and everything you want to know about the RB30 conversion is there. Please read the thread before condeming their potential. To me Brian's price for the blocks are reasonable. By the time you deal with all the shipping and customs headaches, one finds it worth the price. Especially since he is including the belt and also is a good source for rebuild parts!

I bought another RB26 for parts. I keep collecting to much stuff. My enemy is the same as yours...Time to do anything! Also, I would be interested in one of your collars. My RB30 crank will need one.

If someone does not want to go the collar route, I have a R33 crank for $300.00 plus shipping (about $40.00 to the east coast).

Out of curiosity I compared the RB30 crank I have with an L28's. Journal sizes are not even close. The L28 rod's will not fit. Don't waste your money on one to put in an L series block.

There is or was a "Space Available" program years ago. My friend shipped a second car from Okinawa in the late 80's. We were both Air Force at the time. I shipped back a lot of parts in my house hold furniture space alotment. One guy I knew did stuff a complete motorcycle in a crate. On another note, I have disassembled the RB26. It turns out not to be an R32. Upon removing the oil pump I discovered it is actually an R33. No spun bearings or anything obviously wrong with the internals. Definetly happy with the findings.

So far there are no visible problems. Under the valve covers look clean. Some water got into a few cylinders from sitting outside. The intake ports were left open to the elements. The cylinders are not corroded or pited. Suprisingly the crank gear slid off with minimal effort. This weekend I hope to have the sump off.

There is a lot of Subaru stuff there. I saw several Subaru WRX's. Prices did vary from yard to yard. One quoted me $3000 in U.S. Dollars for an RB25DET with an automatic in a wrecked 4-door Skyline. The front end was wrecked pretty bad to. My pallet will be arriving in Oakland the 1st or 2nd of April. Once everything is in my posession, I will post a complete run down of the cost's and procedures.

I have not seen any RB20's in the yards. Nissan does not seem to hold much of a presence here. At least the things we are interested in that is...

I looked high and low for more RB25 5-speeds. Automatics are more popular here it seems. Cars are a major luxury here. The trans I found was attached to an RB25DET VVT sitting out of site on a rack. He originally wanted $5000HK ($650USD) for the motor and trans set. There was, however, no harness and ecu plus the intake manifold was broken.

How about this BMW V12? It was sitting just below the Bentley. There are lots of Mercedes, BMW's, Jaguars, and Lexus. I have seen several Subaru WRX's. Not to much performance Nissan stuff around here that I have seen or found. I know it is here though. I am leaving Hong Kong March 15th, so there is still time to hunt around.

While visiting my wife, I did some shopping at the local wrecking yards. I bought the RB26 as a core for $1000HK dollars ($128USD), the RB25DET transmission for $1500HK ($192USD), the 5 R32 rims were $1500HK ($192USD) and not pictured I purchased a pair of R33 GTR seats, Sard and Blitz BOV's, plus a Vielside and a Greddy boost gauge for another $1500HK. I could have bargained more but was to excited about all the goodies we can't get in the US. Just as a note, Skyline parts are not to common here in Hong Kong. I found only 2 R34 4-door's being parted out. Both were automatics with RB25DET NEO's. Shipping from Hong Kong to my door in California is going to be about $750USD. Most of that cost is in port fees in Oakland CA and shipment to Sacramento. Of that $750, in Hong Kong, the freight company is charging me about $200USD to pick up the pallet, deliver it to the port, process the paperwork and put it on the ship. Anyone want to put a Turbo Bentley V8 in thier Z?

As for the R180 4.11 gear ratio, I can confirm it did come in Fairlady Z's as well as Skylines.

I recently found the pictures of the trial fit of an RB20 in my 78 Fairlady Z. Measurements from the stock R32 Skyline mounts to the transmission mounts were the same as the original L motor. The L series transmission mount bolted right up. The Automatic drive shaft splines slid into the RB20 5-speed with no problems. Perhaps everything would have bolted up and worked with no custom work. The shifter obviously would have been further forward. The Z is now completely awaiting reassembly with an RB30/26DETT combo. Had this bright idea of completely stripping it down, new paint, weather strip, bushings etc.

The 409 is considered a big block. It was before the more well known 396-454 series. I threw in the 409 swap because of the comments about the "if it were a corvette" posts earlier in the thread.

At least Hybrid Z moderators allow this sort of discussion. http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=149893 I think the Mustang setup is cool and ingenious. In the 60's my father put a 409 into a 58 Corvette. He has done numerous other swaps no one would ever expect.
