Yup, fuel pressure at idle is about 32-34 and jumps up to 35-37 with the vaccum disconected. If the pressure is off by a few lbs it should not affect the running of the car (off course if it's low it may detonate sooner....).

Dude, those turbo's look like they can suck in a whole cat

Looking nice alex. I guess you need a large metal sheet to deflect 1000 gallons per sec of turbulent air flow from entering the engine bay. perhaps you can add a couple more rotors and kill any rb26, 2jz-gte, V8, V10's..... Keep the good work going.

Definitions are such a hard thing but I think we should pick one that holds true most often (there are always exceptions). Let's review some of the presented ideas (OK so I'm bored right now) -"if it's taken to the track" I can't agree, if it were this easy, I would just take my minivan to the track and have the only race minivan in San Francisco (I think) -"If it's not street legal" street legal varies too much by State, country, and year of car to hold. If I take out my catalytic from the minivan it's no longer street legal. Still not a race car. -"if the interior is stripped/bare bones...." well my friends work van is real bare bones, no carpet, no rear seats, no panels...Definitely not a race car “Too uncomfortable for the street†well my brother’s old jeep Wrangler was too uncomfortable for the street. So again, the comment is true for race cars, but not specific enough. My vote goes to the comments related to the purpose of the car such as built for the track, which will include many of the above (I think they are mostly requirements and not well suited for a definition). Not for track: comfort, quiet, AC, emission standards, protecting passengers, DVD player and monitor, ability to handle pot holes, noise and vibration damping (i.e. extra weight)… For track: helmet, safety cage, fuel cells, adjustable suspension tight enough to rattle your kidneys …. IMO Race Car = built for the track and/or performs better on the track than the street

Z31 swap onto '81-83 turbo motor (write-up please, someone?)
Afshin replied to a topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Hi well I'm in the process of putting in the Z31 ecu/ams in my car. If I finish it and it runs in the next couple of weeks (I'm busy with work as usual), then I will do a full write up including photos of which wires to cut and splice, including rewiring so the fuel pump relay works as intended. I'm using a 84 set up with the stock 280ZXT harness. -
I'm certainly planning to go. The drive down route 1 itself is worth the trip. Bay area caravan sounds great. Moridin, if my friend doesn't come over from NJ (I don't think he will be able to make it), you're welcome to ride along in my car (and yes, you can do part of the driving).
-
Darn! There goes that road trip. I guess now I will have to buy mine in Montana, drive thru the Tetons in Wyoming to Utah to the Sierras and finally back home. I could do the coastal drive down route 1 to LA the week after. Gobs of power, AWD and endless twisties
-
OK, this is great. Save money over the next three years, fly to Vancouver, spend all my savings and then drive down the coast 8)

Hi, one of the nicest Z's I saw was stock bodied with a corvett yellow (I believe 1980 or so). It was clean, simple and plain gorgeous (no excess white or red tone and not excessively bright, just a perfect classy shade of yellow). Unfortunately I dont know if it was called sunflowr or not. But if they ran the same yellow for those years, then I strongly recommend it.

There are a lot of factors that relate to 1/4 mile run and while 1/4 mile numbers would be nice, remember the job of a limited slip is to spread traction to both wheels, not to improve the time (that's a secondary outcome). Depending on the car weight, horsepower, torque, front wheel or RWD, tire....the same LSD may effect the 1/4 time buy a lot or by a minimal amount. It is not a good measure of the LSD quality. Those graphs do a much much better job of showing how well the LSD is doing it's job or not (i.e., spreading traction to both wheels equally). As such those graphs are a better way of displaying the efficiency of a LSD unit, which was the point of the review.

Thanks for looking Len, I'm too busy during the daytime to make it to the yard. My Z31 ECU/AMS is all wired up and ready to go, all I need is the distributor chopper, so hopefully you can find one at the yard and she'll fire right up (I mean start up as opposed to burst in flames from an electric short).
-
Hi Len I've trying to reach you, your phone is out and I don't know if you email address is current. Anyway, contact me if you see this. We can talk about setting up a dougnuts course as well

Here is a nice review and test of the phantom grip unit. Looks good, I'll put in in next years' budget. http://nissanperformancemag.com/november02/phantomgrip/

Looks great Juan. I'm really looking forward to getting the 280ZX Wilwood set up. I plan to finish my 300ZXT ECU/AMS to 280zxt conversion this weekend. The brakes will be next so the car will be ready the route 1 trip down to the MSA show

I'd say it's time for a rb26 upgrade. It will still cost less than ten times what he payed for his toy

anyone know of a easy-swap hybrid turbo in place of stock?
Afshin replied to a topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Actually since my T3T4 (from Alex Costa) was longer than the stock unit (larger compresser housing), I had to cut 1 inch of the straight section of my stock J pipe out and put a sleeve over it to keep the cut pipe together, it was easy to do (I got a rubber connecter which has a full length metal clamp from the hardware store). Otherwise the pipe is too long to go over the throttle body. I also had to adapt the boot from the AFM to the turbo inlet, since it is significantly larger on the T3T4. I used the stock turbine housing which bolted right up to the manifold and exhaust. I love the larger compressor, no significant difference in lag, but much more flow as boost and rpm builds up -
I know of a few instances in which a specific car (including my previous supra turbo) would burn oil with Mobile 1 and not with castrol synthetic. I first ignored it since it made no sense, but then the same thing happened with a friend of mine (300zx turbo). I retried mobile 1 and again it would consume some oil and not when I switched to castrol for the second time. Off course most cars don't burn oil with mobile 1 and I have no explanation for my experience (both oils were the same grade and synthetic). Anyways, you could try a different oil for the heck of it.

I was referring to non Middle Eastern activities from Iraq, which have been absent. Iraq had nothing to do with 911 (regardless if sadaam was evil). Furthermore, the issue of Palestine and Israel is very complicated. It is more of a war with different means and tactic for fighting. Right or wrong, fighting within your own territory (Palestine is not a defined self ruling country and is occupied) is completely unrelated to international terrorism. Many well meaning and reasonable people back either or neither Israel and Palestine's conflicting causes. Not too many reasonable people back 911. So please, don't include Palestinians whom understandably (I'm not saying it's correct or not) fight to death for their independence and freedom (as they see it) with the Israeli who fight with far more power and money for what they perceive as their fundamental right to the land that the Palestinians currently live in. Now please, I hope no one jumps on the Israel/Palestine issue (both have valid arguments and both commit many war crimes), it is even more of an endless argument. My point is that it is a very different situation. Apples to apples.

Thank you for the great list Jon. People have to realize the crucial distinction that war on terrorism is not like war with a country that has boundaries, a single regime, army.. that comes to an end. Terrorism can't end. So then how will the patriot act and it's descendants end? Talking about short memory, Time and other magazines showed the reports that all the info needed to stop 911 was available pre 9/11. This was without the lost of our constitutional rights. The problem was that no one was looking carefully enough. So the problem was not inability to access everyone's private life or to arrest someone without a warrant or the ability to imprison someone without defense or due process, but lack of intelligence or sheer stupidity. Unfortunately, winning a war on stupidity is as likely as winning the war on terrorism. We can certainly fight it, but it is naive to expect a definite victory and end point. Do you think that after bombing Iraq, occupying the country... you are decreasing terrorism. In case some are not awar, Iraq despite having the psycho Sadaam as a ruler, was not involved in international terrorism and was not linked with bin-laden. I will bet my Z that after now, many Iraqis will become involved in terrorism whom never would have before (indeed none of the previous terrorist were from Iraq). I wish I could have the same faith as you Mike.

I really wish people cared as deeply about more fundemantal rights that are being taken away with the patriot act and the following freedom act. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone with a money interest (i.e. gun manufacturers) has an interest in our most basic rights such as privacy and fair trial (i.e. not military tribunal in cuba....) or being put on a no flying list without any reason being offered to those banned from flying... Guns IMO are such a smaller issue, I feel that the NRA has made it a huge issue because of money not rights, otherwise they would be fighting the patriot act. As I said earlier guns are not the cause of violence, they increase the death rate by making it easy to kill. If you really believe that making a million handguns per day and selling them with minimal to no restriction makes you safer or that's what ensures your freedom, then there is no point arguing. Also, my reference to Moore's flic was as a fun (because of his bias) sarcastic clip not as a document that explains all the issues and reason's for violence.... Regardless of your angle he makes some interesting points, even if others are a stretch. You wan't to hear about lies from our government in a fun and accurate format, read: lies and the lying lyars who tell them by Al Franken. See if you can make Moore's innacuracies as a problem after that. I don't think guns are a specially good part of the U.S.A. and a worthy symbol of freedom, I thought other basic right where the best part. To bad no industry is preparing all the arguments and getting people emotional about the patriot act. I believe Ben Franklin said: those who prefer safety over freedom deserve neither.

Guns are not the cause of violence, but they certainly cause more deaths. Ever see any drive by knifing or 6 high school kids get beat to a death by someone with a stick. Heck, if I had a gun in my car I might have shot a few idiots on the road myself. BTW Bowling for Columbine directed by Michael More is a fantastick and witty documentary related to this subject. I certainly recommend watching it.

How much do you think i could get out of this turbo setup?
Afshin replied to a topic in Turbo / Supercharger
The mach III (87-92) supra intercooler is highly restrictive, specially as you increase boost. In one tech article they showed at 3 psi boost drop at about 10 psi. Meaning that as the turbo put out 10psi into the intercooler, 7 come out. As such it is not a desirable unit. The psi drop will even be greater at higher boost. Off course it is much better than having no intercooler, but as already mentioned, since all the work is in the plumbing, why not start with a isuzu npr or mach IV (93-98 ) supra intercooler which are fantanstic stock intercoolers (ebay cost $150-180) and can be had much cheaper than an spearco, hks or other reputable aftermarket intercooler. -
Hey tyson, what’s your problem? Are you trying to make absolutely sure that you make an a$$ of yourself. You have the nerve to tell people you do not agree with an inexperienced person like yourself to have their heads examined? What is it with all this anger? Does your job suck? Did your partner leave you? I suggest you take a chill pill and stop polluting the forum with your aggressive posts until you learn to contribute in a more appropriate manner. This forum is for Z enthusiasts to share knowledge and ideas, find another place to pick a fight. And please, let this post end. I doubt you have anything new to say

I don’t know what’s going on here, I have been trying to stay out of this because it annoys me too much. But what the hell is it with certain members and there inappropriate attitude with Juan? For example, someone’s who is not an a$$ might not have in another post (i.e., Tyson) asked if Juan would have his corny name inscribed all over his products. Who are you to show so much disrespect to an enthusiast and hard working contributing member of HybridZ ? I happen to like the fact that he takes pride in his work and places his nicely engraved logo on a product. You don’t like it, don’t buy it. Tyson and some others keep using this inappropriate tone and aggression towards Juan. As previously stated you want OEM, stick with the old leak prone injector hoses, rear drum brakes, and inadequate front brakes. You want it tested and insured as an OEM part, then go buy OEM, because it will cost even more to make it in low volume. You want extensively researched safety go buy a Volvo and never drive a 30 year old Z. Now off course this does not mean that you should put garbage on the car, I certainly don’t, but for crying out loud “get a grip†before you start lecturing or attacking a low volume custom made product geared at people who extensively modify cars. What part of a HybridZ relates to extensive development by a team of engineers to be tested by racing teams for 5 years before being used. We swap engines, tranny, fuel sytems…with no testing. It was said I want to make sure it will not fail at 500hp, could you please educate me as to what part in the entire Z has been tested for such an application. Please, if you have a valid concern or point you would like to share bring it up “nicely†and show some respect as opposed to blind statements such as it did not have 1000 hours of R&D behind it. Datsunlover criticized a measurement in a picture; more appropriate would be to just ask if the measurement for the O-ring is accurate and how was it measured during the actual production. The point here is that some people instead of giving the benefit of doubt and asking a question in a nice way are being aggressive and insinuating that the product is not good. This is inappropriate; you have an honest question ask it. You have something useful to say based on your expertise please share it. You have a valid safety concern and you actually know what you are talking about, please bring it up. You have good advice to give, please give it with respect. So far Juan has not shown any disrespect to anyone, including those who deserve it. Juan has repeatedly asked members for advice and has not started any product without posting about it first to make sure it is reasonable and getting opinions. Furthermore he clearly has taken peoples opinions and comments into account when designing the products to ensure a good product. Please reciprocate or keep your opinion/comment to yourself. So far, all of the JSK parts (TB spacer, brake kit and fuel rail) have been quite good and IMO better than the OEM set up. Perhaps Juan’s biggest shortcomings relates to him being more of a craftsman than salesman and that he is honest in his communications and does not pretend to know more than he does as so many others do. He has not failed at taking good advice from anyone. Again, please make your posts helpful as oppose to accusatory.
