Heh.. saw one 'needing completion' on the autotrader.. (canadian) for $10K. The description says "I think it's worth 10 grand.. but I might be way off" THAT is a nice one though...
-
I think you'd be lucky to get $100.. init's current condition. With 30psi across the board I'm thinking it needs rings, bad. One of those things though, you don't know for sure till you tear the thing down.. Does it even run at this point? In good runing condition I supose you could get $500-$1000 depending on the person who wants it..

Could be a sticking valve.. not letting the spring come back up enough, therefore allowing too much room between the rocker and guide.. enough vibration/driving, and it would pop off. Worst case it would be a bent valve, and I'm sure you can see why it wouold cause this.. but if you replaced it and the car runs fine, I'm sure evrythings ok.. I'd just check ALL the valves lash cold/hot to be sure.

Nah, it's just a 'rumble seat' cause you can only fit two people inside the car... mind you I don't see any lap belts...

Do I need to use these brackets when installing the oil pan?
datsunlover replied to a topic in Nissan L6 Forum
I didn't put them back on my engine, and haven't had a leak yet.. I've only had her out for a month or so, but I drive it really hard and it's been hot lately too.. I DO have a slight leak from the front end, but it's from the oil seal behind the fromt pully/balancer.. er.. well, the seal's good but the balancer had a chip which I 'fixed' with JB weld, so guess where the oil is coming from.. I figure by the time the pan starts leaking again, I'll be pulling the motor anyway to either turbo it, or go V8 so I'm not woried. -
Sounds like my kinda mod.. How much is actually cut off the springs? I was looking at my car sitting in the driveway tonite thinking.. "Wow, that 3" of air between the tires and wheel arches looks like crap.." But I hesitate to cut springs for fear of messing them up. Possible problems: A: being TOO low, scraping evrywhere, B: not having a set of stockers to put back in.. or C: coils may hit tires in the front. I have about 3/16" clearance right now.. (I'm thinking that because the diameter of a spring gets bigger as it compresses, this could be an issue..)

Well you know Glen, it's heavy cause you have basicaly TWO inline 6's jamed in there..

Either way, I would NOT buy from showcars. (Located in Ontario) I've been there and well.. don't have anything nice to say really.. There are plenty of ppl that will tell you the same thing; Avoid that place like the plague. I think some original fenders are the way to go.. I have an older (aftermarket) fiberglass passenger fender, and the fit/finish is awefull.. took some work to get it looking ok.

Unruly indeed!! Cool..

Thats crap-tacular.. I'm really discustipated.

No idea on the stock block color.. As for the head.. I think you could probly take .015-.020 off and not have to worry about shiming the cam towers, although if you're gona run a bgiger (than stock) cam, you'll have to do the math and get the right lash pads.. Bant valves suck. On the spray bar; there was a post I made a while back about this.. I guess it just depends on who you talk to about it, some say use it, some say not. Personaly, I'm running one and have had no problems. From what I understand, it's not a problem till you start neglecting oil changes, and then it can possibly get cloged, wich could cause a few problems with lubrication in the top end..
-
I believe it'll have the block you want to build big power too (stronger than the older Zs blocks, more internal webing, ect) AND the turbo stuf is always worth something.. turbo, FI system/harness/ecu, tranny, ect.. (although you might want the rear diff and tranny for yours.) You could easily sell all that stuff off to fund the stroker build. Me, I'd just drop the turbo driveline in and go, but if a stroker is what you really want, I'm not about to tell you what to do with YOUR car. I think if it's a good runner, it's worth $500 to $1000 anyway.. more if it was in my area, as ANY old Z is getting rare here. Don't tell the guy that though.. I think if you can get it for $300, it's an awesome deal.
-
If you're talking about using the stock 280z FI, no way it is going to be good to run a stroker. It would not like a big cam either.. But If you're talking aftermarket/programable, then yah, I'm sure FI would be ok. Personaly, I'd go with carbs. They work, Sould really cool sucking air in,and there's the 'wow' factor too when you pop the hood.

Cool... I drove one of those a few years ago when I was working on construction sites.. 4-5 guys in it, and a box full of garbage, tools, ect, and the thing would just haul azz.. First time I stomped it to the rug I was blown away with how much 'omph' it had down low.. just pushes you in the seat. LOTS of fun in the mud too.

Could Not Help Myself...I bought the car of my dreams...PICS!!

I think I hate you.... Beutiful porsche dude.. someday, I too WILL own a 911 turbo. Have fun with that.. oh, and try to keep it under 150mph ok? -
strange the steering wheel is locked up
datsunlover replied to PapaSmurf's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Mine gives me trouble sometimes.. it's kind of a 'Hold your face the right way, giggle the key while trying to turn the wheel slightly side to side, and pray' -
Yup, I'd give it to a profesional. My boss has a TIG/arc welder and a MIG.. then for some reason, he also bought a spool gun for the mig. ?? Works good for filling holes in aluminum plate, or butt welding two pieces together.. but from what I heard, the thing was around $1500, and IMO it's even more dificult to get the hang of than using the TIG w/filler rod.

Well.. What have I done? Not alot I guess.. I'm only 26. BUT, if I were to die tomorow, I would regret nothing. If I were asked this question 5 years ago, it would have been a different answer.. I had a good childhood, not rich, but not a poor family. Life was great.. till I was 14. (This is about to get longwinded..) Then suddenly, my father died of a heart attack at 39. (3 days before his 40th.. his friends still had a get together in his honor.. it's how he would have wanted it) But this was a huge thing for me... Huh? He worked out.. ate healthy, didn't smoke, ect. Pop. Just like that. Stress I supose.. and heart problems run in the family. So here's my mother, me, and my younger brother left behind... It was kind of like that first drop off a rollercoaster.. but not so fun. The next 5 years were pretty rough, but we caried on. Got to the point I could talk about it with people, begin to understand it.. you know. In high school, one of my close friends lost his father in a similar way, so it kind of got dredged up again.. His mother looked to me to help him through it.. THAT was odd.. In a way though, it helped ME too.. So after I turned 19, I was doing pretty good.. had finished high school, had a job, had dreams and big plans. Another friend of mine looses HER father.. she's a little better equiped for it, being 31 and all, but it's never "OK" at any age.. I tried my best to help her too.. Although, the BEST thing a close friend can do it simply listen.. and DON'T say. "It'll be ok." It's never ok, and it never will be. You just get better at dealing with that fact. One day that summer my mother calls me at work (gas station) says there's been an accident, and my aunt is in the hospital up north. This is my fathers sister, who had 3 boys.. awsome woman.. Seams she was a pssenger in a car that pulled off the side of the road (driver didn't check over her shoulder) and.. well, got run over my an 18 wheeler. Her friend (driver) died instantly, my aunt ended up in a coma. I made the 3 hour trip up after work that day.. my mom was already there, but it was too much for my brother to handle right then. Heck, I only stayed for a night with my mom, and drove back.. Too much you know? After 2 weeks, they pulled the plugs at my uncle's wishes. She was a nurse, and would never want to 'live' that way ..indefinatly on machines. The funeral was like dejv-vu twilight zone style... Oh, She was 38. Wow.. maybe my family is cursed? Last month I get another call.. My 76 years young Oma (grandmother, my fathers side) is in the hospital.. heart attack. Fortunatly, her pacemaker and the quick responce from 911 kept her alive. My mother, brother and I drove up 3 huors to see her, and she's doing ok.. but with her age, the medication she's on, and given the fact she's already lost her husband, son, and daughter, she knows her days are numbered. I'm preparing... I probly shouldn't think about it as much at my age, but I've seen a lot of.. death. The trick is to not get depresed about these things, but to realize that life can be short.. and you should LIVE it, not fear it. I've realilzed recently that almost evrything I do is, at least in part, based on what people would think of me.. People like my father, my aunt, ect. I always expect I'll see them again someday.. I hope I've done well so far...

Ya know.. I was gona jump in here, but I'm thikng I'm probly out-classed.. what with my prety much STOCK 280z.. No flares.. No V8, just an angry inline 6 (angry, but not really that powerfull.. ) and tiny little 205/50 tires.. I couldn't flare my car out anyway, it wouldn't fit in the garage anymore!

After a ride in the Z, friends with Civics tell you "Thanks for showing me how slow my honda actually is.." People who used to laugh at you and think you were wasing your time/money stare like this and can't believe you have a car this cool... IF someone was to borrow/buy your car, it would take an hour or more to explain evrything you've mod'd, how to keep it up/repair it, what the proper order is for fliping switches/knobs to start it up, best RPM to shift, ect. You hear about an old Z car 2 hours away, sitting "down this road, off to the right down a dirt road, behind a barn, ect" And wouldn't you know it, you gofind it. 2 years later, you can still remember how to get there. And this one actually happened to me recently; I pull into a parking lot at a bar to turn around, and there's a Viper parked out front. As I roll by it, a guy walking to his car looks over and says "Nice datsun man.. " I say "Yah well, if I could afford it, I'd probly be driving that" (Pointing at Viper) Guy says "Nahh.. your's is cooler."

Have you checked out the tranny? Perhaps it's just leaking, and is down on fluid, causing your problem.. either way, I'd say... call up some autowreckers in your area, or take it to a transmision shop.. fixing it might not be too expensive..
-
Given your situation, I'd say keep it close to stock and simple for now. If the current motor is sound, and the FI hasn't given up the ghost, I'd say leave it be.. (If the FI gives you too much trouble, there is the option of swaping on older generation SU carbs, which can be had fairly cheep) You already have it, and the N/A L28 is a very stout motor.. it should last you a while. (IE; give you time to finish school, gather up some $$ and knowlege/tools so you CAN do a motor swap in the coming years.) I agree with the 'what does restore?' question.. Does it NEED a full resto? Or is it just some minor surface rust/ugly paint?

If it were me, I'd be all over the net diging up any info you can on this guy. You be suprised what you can find out about ppl from their name and phone #... AND, post evrywhere you frequent about this situation and explain you'd just like your $$ or parts back. Maybe someone knows him and has info? (the guy could have a family emergency, or something right?)

Thanks for the links DavD3! I'll pass them along to my brother too, as he's getting more and more interested in it.. Doing his reaserch. I'm actually thinking of building a VW dune buggy for my next project... Fun, simple and convertable. Probly mod the hubs to take a datsun Z 4 bolt rim, as I have TWO sets of the 6 spoke 14" rims here, and sitting beside my bro's bug they actually looked pretty cool..

Yah yah.. up stage me with my 'white paper over stock faces' that I made a few months back.. Looks good man!
