Absolutely beautiful work. A question for you though - is there a reason you have gone with such a large intercooler/piping setup? We did a RB25 240SX recently with similar piping and intercooler size to the one you have on your SR and had some issues with boost lag. We're currently re-designing it to use a smaller core and piping set. I would think that the smaller displacement SR would love to see smaller piping. Not sure, you may be built for more power and boost than I'm thinking in which case lag may not be an issue, just top end power.

Agreed on the red one. What's really missing with all of these is the stance. I want my car to tuck a bit of tire and have very tight wheel/tire fit with the fender. I think that an all-metal car without flares may well be able to pull off a really slick wheel fit.
-
I am of two minds on the flares - on one hand I love the look, total JDM old school, goes right along with the classic styling of the Z. On the other hand my "take" on the Z is going to be with shaved drip rails, modern "appliances" such as door handles, keys, etc. With that in mind, bolt on fenders are cool in a messy way but I think that a clean set of rolled and pulled fenders might work even better.

Much thanks! That's what I was looking for.

I'm back and forth about if I want to go g-nose or not on my Z. I really like the look but I'm also considering going no-flares. I can't seem to turn up any pictures of a G-nose without flares so I'm having a hard time imagining what it will look like. Anyone have something like this on their hard drive somewhere?

Progress on my insane VQ35HR 240Z project
iBang replied to markrolston@mac.com's topic in Nissan V6 Forum
That really is an incredible build. It turns out that the shop its being built at is right next to my shop in Pflugerville and I never knew till I was driving by one day and spotted the back of a Z sticking out and went to go check it out. Beautiful work though its gone a lot further than last time I saw it. I'll have to stop by again and see it as it is now. -
I won't pretend to understand the detailed implications of throttle body size but I would be interested in what a smaller/larger throttle body will get me if I use one in terms of better/more linear throttle response, more power at certain power levels, etc. I've been told that my engine setup (RB25/greddy intake manifold/3076R/supporting mods) will do better with a Q45 throttle body on there. In fact the intake minfold requres an adapter to use the stock throttle body. Now I do know that my engine made 400whp with the stock throttle body and a much smaller HKS turbo so I know it can hit my power goals with that small TB, but with everyone telling me I ought to go for the bigger one it makes me curious. Thoughts?

I'm not much one for the "culture" behind it, I do like how that look is executed when dome properly. I couldn't stand to drive it that way though. It looks perfect and soooooooo sick when pulling into a meet/hard parking. Then you take a ride in it and you can't go over anything, the car doesn't handle right and everything rubs all the time. I'm going to see if I can set up my Z to tuck some tire and still be usable but I'm not going to take it to that kind of extreme.

'96 miata built for drift. Turbocharged, caged, full coilovers, custom high-angle steering knuckles. Currently down for a completely new turbo setup including new manifold, turbo, intercooler, piping, BOV, exhaust and more. One of my smaller model aircraft. My larger pair have wingspans of 10' and use 150cc gasoline engines. I arguably have more money in these than I do my cars.

Ronal Racing Wheel value?
iBang replied to Stealth-Z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
A fair bit at a guess. I know that if I saw a FS thread for them I would expect to see prices close to a grand, but that's just a guess. -
Honestly, if you're not like me and want to have a nissan engine in your nissan get the 2J. Its just a bit better engine. I have a RB25 in my girlfriends drift car built to 400+hp and I'm building another one for my Z but in the end I know that the 2J is just a bit better engine than the 25. More displacement, more parts support, especially stateside, and I honestly think it can support more HP in stock form.

When I swapped one into my old S13 240SX I used the stock KA24DE clutch slave. The bolt pattern is 90 degrees off but I put a block of aluminum with a hold on it on the rear (or was it the front...) hole so that when the slave pushes the fork the back of the slave is pushing against the block. I did it as a quick fix to get the car running but it works so well its still there and working great.

Very clean! I will be bookmarking this for inspiration on my build. I too am putting an RB25 into a '71 and I hope I can get mine as clean as yours.

Not really. I've been busy this last week getting other cars fixed so that I can sell them and get them out of my hair and I went drifting this weekend. The Z is a long term project so I'm not in as big a hurry with it as I have to be with some of my other projects. I'm also really broke rightn ow which isn't helping any

Time to confess. How many s30's do you own?
iBang replied to jasper's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
If you're limiting it to Datsun and not nissan, two: '71 240Z '75 280Z shell Niether run. now if you let me include my nissan and infiniti family... '91 240SX - RB25 powered drift car '94 G20 - SR20DET FWD get around. Still don't know why I built this one. '95 240SX - Stock daily driver (sold) '89 240SX - GF's daily driver '91 240SX - bought for parts, still don't know what I'm doing with the rest of it. '92 240SX - bought to fix up and sell. -
Depending on how they end up looking I would be interested. You're going to have to make something to show people before you really get serious interest. I would want one without speakers since I'm going to make custom door cards with speaker mounts.

Orginally the pan on it was going to get changed out for a stock R33 pan, then the seller found out what I was putting it into and offered to leave it on there. I jumped at that deal. Unfortunately its dinged up but I'll be pulling it off and massaging it back out to where it looks nice before I strip and powder coat it.

Very cool! I'm working on a 240sx for the MSR event later this season. Should be a lot of fun! Any suggestions having done it as to what to concentrate on? Should we put most of our spare money into cooling? suspension? engine?

Update! Got a little further on moving into the shop. Unloaded an ungodly load of ♥♥♥♥ out of my storage unit into the shop... need to throw about 99% of it out but at least I've got the unit unloaded so I can stop paying for it. In the process I also removed the RB from the back of my truck where it has been chilling for a couple weeks and put it in the shop. Pics: Pulling it out In all its beauty The car, the engine, and the driver Me using the RB and the Z as a recliner. More like failing to look relaxed while really being propped up on my hands so I don't dent the hood lol.

How much is "not the cheapest"? That looks pretty rough to me. It looks like he "shaved" the back bumper with screwed on sheet metal and the front looks to have a ton of bondo on it. Personally I'd avoid that one unless its really cheap enough to justify the tons of work that will need to be done to get it working good again.

I'm 22, and have been wanting a Z since I was 15 or 16. Pretty much when I first got interested in cars as something more than a method of transportation I was first interested in an old mustang, and then S30 chassis Z's. Thanks to parents VERY not supporting of my automotive interests I didn't really get into cars until three years ago when I got my first project cars. I moved into the nissan family a little over a year ago when I got my 240sx drift car and promptly started modding it and eventually dropped a RB25 into it before selling. This hooked me on the RB engines and got me interested in the idea of working over my early love, the Z, with another 25. The right RB came along a little over a month ago and I snagged it and started looking for a chassis. That came last weekend when I scored my '71. Now I just need to get busy restoring it!

Pretty much everything L-series under the hood will be going as will the stock suspension but that is down the road. Need something to roll it on for now. Thanks! My thought exactly on the bumper The car ran and drove 10-15 years ago when it was parked but it has sat for a loooong time. I think that with a little bit of TLC - new fluids, some carb cleaner, etc. and the L will run again. It only has 88k on it! I'll get it running so that I can say that it is in running condition when I sell it before I pull it. I picked up my RB off of a local 240sx forum I hang out on. I also had a fun Sunday. I went out to a drift event while I was in town getting the Z. On top of hanging out with my friends there someone brought out a nice clean 280z. I managed to wrangle a quick drive in it so I got my first chance to take a Z on the road. Made me happy about my choice since I really liked how I fit in the car and how it drove.

Well with a big thanks to everyone who helped me find a decent car to start with but the search is over. I've found my car! The base: A 71 240z. The car was rear ended many years ago and the pissed off original owner parked it for 15 years before his death. His widow sold the car to another owner and it sat for more years before finding its way to me. The good: Very little rust - I see some really minor surface on one rear panel and there is some that I think is just surface in the passenger side floorboard. All original. None of the usual mishmash of parts that seems to be the case with many of these older S30's. The bad: The bumper mount location is pushed in a little bit where the old collision happened. There's some little rubs here and there but nothing major The worst bit is that I'm going to have the roof massaged to get the wrinkles out. Its not creased or anything bad but it will cost me a bit to get it perfect again. I'm still in Dallas where I picked it up but once I get it back I'll get right to work getting it stripped down, cleaned up and start the build back up as soon as possible. I also picked up the RB25 that is going in the car today so it was a good day. Here's the pictures: On the trailer The RB25 also got picked up today.

And as of this weekend I will have done much better. A lot better cars have come up since then.
