  1. Got it, my friend. Do you believe that explains the 6-bolt output flanges on Tim240z's pic? Wayne
  2. Many thanks, Neil. Any and all info about this subject is always welcome. I appreciate and will add that to the list. Wayne
  3. 3154TM you are DA MAN!!! Thanks,Wayne
  4. Oh, that's an easy one! '70's 'vette rear bumpers fit the bill pretty well. The '82 vette rear in the pic is 1 3/4" wider on each side than a '78 280z. Take a look at the pics and see if it floats your boat. Wayne
  5. Folks, After floundering in the R230 vs R200 hole for about a year, I believe I have read every thread ever printed in this forum as well as anything else I could find and I am convinced that I now have 3 R230 VLSD's that I absolutely KNOW came out of a '90, '93 and '94 z32 300zxtt's. All have 3:69 gears, six-bolt output flanges, 10 bolt rear covers and the 6-bolt horn-like input flange (exactly like DRAX240's pictures). I also have an R200 VLSD shorty with 4:08 gears, five-bolt output flanges, 8 bolt rear cover and 4 bolt flat input flange. All have dual speed sensors. The only thing that confuses me about Tim's is the six-bolt output flanges. Seem to be out of place. The rest looks exactly like an R200 VLSD. For the record, the R230 is BEEFY in ALL respects compared to the R200 (of any vintage). Hope this didn't add to the confusion. Wayne
  6. Mike, I had the same problem and Tim240z kindly enlightened me so I will pass it on. Here goes. 1. You must post the picture on a website somewhere. I posted mine to the photo album on our site. 2. Go to the picture and open it up. 3. Right click, go to properties and copy the URL to your post. 4. Go back to your post and, in front of the http type post your picture and it should open up. Good luck! Wayne
  7. A-H-H-H-H!!! EvilRufusKay....A man with vision!!! THANK YOU. It's refreshing! Wayne
  8. Not the point, guys. As I said, I'm 'way past the issue. The point is that if you are in business and someone gives you a chance to discuss issues in a customer service venue when you send them a bad product, you don't treat them like dogs, you discuss the issue and come to an equitable agreeement. Even though he offered a refund, I could care less after the first part of his e-mail and the rest of the sentence where he made it very clear that my entire claim was suspect and that I better make sure it was HIS axle that I was sending back to him. D-u-u-u-u-u-h......who's would I send?? Looks like we have some people here who will just lay down and cringe if it looks like it might be difficult to deal with a situation such as this. Need to read the motto at the bottom of my posts. Again, it was just a note to say watch out and I can't say watch out without giving the background. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do from then on. Wayne
  9. Heck, I WAY past that. But I surely won't let someone get away with that kind of stuff without at least warning other folks about their business practices. Maybe it was an isolated incident, however, if they aren't held accountable, then what good are we as customers? I'm in business myself and would certainly expect to be held accountable for customer service. Too easy. Thanks for the note. Wayne
  10. Now c'MON Iskone.......Do you REALLY expect us to believe that you are not going to have your foot in it when you are running 450 HP w/ a T56???? You have WAY more will power than I do!!!! Guess my point is that if you are running a stick, you can run the larger cam with idle higher than w/an automatic, however, you still must exercise will power on your right foot to keep from frying the tires, big cam or no. That being the case, I think 3.70's and judicious foot would be cool. The ZVette is about to take its maiden voyage (within a couple of weeks) and I'm running a chevy 10.3:1 383 FI, built 700R4 (medium stall converter), Denny's al driveshaft, 4.08 gears, and Moser axles. Running on 10.5 inch rear Mickey's (soft compound street tires) full cage, etc. Did I mention the adjustable 250 hp nitrous kit mama got me for Christmas??? Gotta love a woman like that!!!! Will let you know if I can keep from making Japanese pretzels out of stuff. Wayne
  11. Iskone, I know for sure the VLSD short version of the R-200 I have in the car has 4.08:1. Unlike Tim's, mine has the 5-bolt output shafts. Tim says his came from a Q-45 and mine came from a 93 non-turbo 300zx. My rear cover bolt pattern is the same as Tim's so it looks like the difference in the two is the output shaft flanges. The R230's I have (thanks to these threads, I am now sure) have 3.694:1 gears and 6-bolt output shafts. Pulled all the covers just to make sure. The R-230 is much beefier in all respects. Links to side and rear view of one of my R-230's contained in my thread (about the third thread I believe). Pls note the 3 bolts top and bottom on the R-230 as opposed to the 2 bolts in the R-200 Wayne
  12. Beautiful work, TJ240Z!!! Nothing like one done right! I'm not sure I would get too concerned about more tire. I know of many 10.5 outlaw street cars running high 4's in the 1/8th. Many more run low 5's and they are probably heavier than yours, so the traction is there if you set it up right. Again, superb job!!! Wayne
  13. Same here, Jeff, and many thanks for the kind words. Next time I see your handle on a bid, I will touch bases with you and we'll not bump heads If you really need something, I will be glad to give it up and wait for another. Wayne
  14. Folks, I hate to be a pain, but the answer I got from Joenissan concerning a damaged axle I bought on E-bay really irked me! Not sure if anyone has dealt with these people before, but I hope they had better luck than I did. For your info: Please read from the bottom up to make sense of it. WOW! Now THAT is customer service!! Regarding the e-mail address, I have never sent an e-mail from the ISOA address as it has been out of service for over 3 years. All my correspondence has been from this address and I have given this address in all my e-mails. When I say they are missing, I mean they are missing, as in not in the box the axle came in. The end of the box was partially broken out, so it is possible that the axle was dropped, hit on such an angle as to knock the cap off, twist the cage in such a manner that 5 balls fell out and all came out of the package. Anything is possible, I guess. You must be one heck of a magician if you can take the inner apart with one hand in 2 seconds. Ya gotta show me how you get those bands of off the boots with one hand. That's awesome!! Heck, I'm an automotive engineer and have been a mechanic for over 40 years and it takes me about 7 minutes with both hands and tools to get the thing apart! Go figger! Anyway, I appreciate your come-back. Bottom line is I don't want your refund, I don't want your axle, and most of all, as a customer (only once, rest assured) I surely don't want your lousy attitude and lack of customer service when I try to be civil. Dig through the package find the balls, regrease it like should be done every 60k miles, and put the cap back on it. All it takes is dropped on it's end once and the cap comes off and the bearings stand a good chance of coming out. If I can take the whole inner end apart (completely) with ONE hand in less than TWO seconds. UPS can do the same. Wasn't like that when I gave it to the shipping dept. Odds are those parts are still in the box. Or, send it back for refund, but, better make sure it's the one I sent and that it's back here within thirty days of end of auction. Received the axle yesterday, however, it was of no use to me because 5 of the six ball bearings of the inner cv joint were missing as was the end cap. Any chance of making it good? My e-mail address is wdryther@bellsouth.net. The one on E-bay doesn't work and I can't seem to get it off. Please advise Thank you, rytherwr

    diff flange

Man, tonight's not my night! The pics are under 'a few quick R230 Q's

    diff flange

3154tm, many thanks and Yes, Sir, I've seen 'em. I you open them up, you will notice that I am in amongst 'em. Learned an awful lot from all that stuff, that is why I am now confused again. Pls see my recent pics in this same forum under the flange question. Tim's rear cover is different than mine, however, I am pretty sure they are both R230's. Any thoughts? Wayne
  17. Here are some pics of the diff I got which was puported to be from a 91 300zx TT. R230?????? VLSD but the sticker came off when I was cleaning it. Pulled the rear cover and gears are 3.69 + change. As you can see, 6-bolt output flanges. http://hybridz.org/nuke/modules/coppermine/albums/userpics/14732/normal_P1000379.JPG http://hybridz.org/nuke/modules/coppermine/albums/userpics/14732/normal_P1000380.JPG Wayne

    diff flange

3153tm, you are correct. The 90-96 years in my post are meant for the 300zx TT. I left out the (97-01) Q45 which I believe to be R230. D-u-u-u-u-u-h-h-h! Thanks for the correction. Tim, your picture of the diff makes me wonder what on earth I have! I just bought what was purported to be an R230 diff, axles and driveshaft out of a 91 300zx TT and the rear cover of the diff has 3 bolts across the top and bottom, more closely spaced to the right. It is MUCH more heavy duty than the R200 4:08 that I know I have. Pulled the cover and the gears are 3:69 + change, which I believe is right. It is a VLSD with 6-bolt output flanges. I have some pictures somewhere and I will post as soon as I find them. Opinions are welcome. Empirical data on the ID of this thing is even more welcome. Hope this isn't confusing the issue. Wayne

    diff flange

Have you tried cross reffing to a Nissan diff to see if there is a match? I know Infiniti Q45 and 90-96 300zx tt both use an R230, so there might be compatability in other models and diffs as well??????? Might be worth checking out. Wayne
  20. I'm with Tim and Mike....except I have an IQ of a snail. I have used Painless kits on a number of vehicles, to include my Z. If you just have a few non-working parts, get the wiring diagram for the Z and figure it out. If you have to start from scratch, the Painless wiring harnesses are well built and the directions are understandable. Not for an impatient person but not rocket science either. Heck, I keep cutting the wires and they're STILL too short...go figger!
  21. Many thanks for trying to take care of me Mike. I sure appreciate the assist. This has been an education (sorely needed, to be sure). The ones I need are truly 300zx turbo (actually twin turbo) from 90-96 which has the R-230 or the Q-45 from late 97-01. The 90-96 regular 300zx has an R200 that looks much like an R230 but has 5-bolt output flanges vice 6-bolt. I'm a-hangin' in there 'cause Mr. T has me covered! Again, appreciate y'all lookin' out for me. Wayne
  22. Mike, You are definitely hard core!!! I get up to Quantico fairly often and usually stay at the Wingate in Stafford. Why don't you PM me your phone number and next time I'm up, we might get together and BS. Wayne
  23. Datsunan, Upload your pics to a web site, (the Hybridz web site works), open up your pic to full size, right click to properties, highlight the path and paste it to your post. From there, put on the end and it should work. I recently learned that from Tim240Z. Mine works that way. Good Luck. Wayne
  24. Mike, No, none taken off at the bottom of the cylinders, just the block and tops of the rod bolts. Wayne
