  1. No worries. I have that effect on people. I'm not quiet or shy, and I put out there whatever I'm thinking. That tends to piss people off quite often. Its just the name of the game. Just so you know though, I'm not all bad. I do help people quite a bit where I can.
  2. You're on to the right setup for a datsun with limited tire. I used to cut 1.4s with stock suspension (Blown rear shocks, and an aftermarket swaybar to keep the car from blowing off one tire in a majestic single tire burnout) and a 225 drag radial. Drag radials generally want a bit more pressure than slicks, and I've found 14-16 HOT was pretty good for me. (I run my slicks 12-14psi generally) Ironically my motor was donated from my 2001 z06 with a 750 hp blower setup on it originally. Come a long ways from there though. That motor put down 950rwhp with the turbo before I retired it and bought something fancier recently.
  3. Normally I do. I usually use a Hoosier Quick time pro that I drive around on. I used to use radials but the car does dangerous wheelies on them at the track and they SUCK on the street so I went to a bias ply. These last few times at the track I got a set of 28X10.5 ET Drags with a billion passes on that that I used, and I had my buddy carry them up for me since they really have almost nothing left on them. (They were free from a friend) I get a few thousand on the QTPs as long as I don't drive like a total ass.
  4. Do a little research before you talk crap to me and my attitude. I help out a lot of members on this forum without asking for anything in return and I'm happy to give any information needed for builds. I get slightly annoyed when everyone thinks running 8s is no big deal. Especially when it's in an actual street car running pump gas and driven everywhere. (I don't even own a trailer) I know Sunny meant no offense, his car is great, but if you can't talk a little shit back and forth with car stuff what's the point? Nobody is driven to go better when there's no competition. You may all think my car is just a drag car, but I've put 30k miles on it, done cross country trips and the only times it's been on the trailer is when I broke a water pump shaft once, and when it has to go somewhere without me there to drive it.
  5. They are similar heights. Just the proflo is lower in the front where the holley is lower in the rear. Obviously with our hoods the proflo would have a space advantage
  6. I hear this all the time, but honestly my car was running 10s on motor with the 6 speed on a pretty unimpressive engine. Also if it was that easy to "just put a glide in it and run 8s" then I wouldn't be one of the only ls Zs running 8s. Sorry man I can't tell you how tired I get of people telling me "if I just did x I would run 8s no problem." Try actually doing it, it's not that easy.
  7. Pretty sure the JCI mounts sit a bit lower. This is a picture under the hood of a Z with a edelbrock proflo intake. It clears the stock hood.
  8. That is a commom reason given but it's not really that true. My old irs setup ran mid 10s without batting an eye, and it's now in Infidels car (He upgraded stuff on it too) and he runs solidly in the 10s with a stock 5.3 and nitrous. He will probably get in the 9s this year with some minor changes. He drives the 200 mile round trip journey with me to and from the track every time we race and never has an issue. He pretty much daily drives the car without a hitch. I did solid axle for safety and consistency mostly. I planned on running 8s and it just isn't safe to do that on irs. (its totally possible though) my car is probably the heaviest 240z in these forums because of the suspension and cage that I have though. Good thing too, since this year I plan to see what other digits I can get on my time slip
  9. Sad but true. Lately people have been starting to move though. When that was posted it was pretty bad, when you see a bunch 2600 lb car with a 600+ hp setup of running 11s at best it wasn't exactly inspiring. That was also when the mods were being mega douchebags and shooting down every single new person with any questions that they MIGHT be able to find online. It wasn't a community that I was proud to be a part of at all, but luckily it has been changing for the better which is why I actually post on here now.
  10. I'll be selling my ls6 for $350 plus shipping pretty soon. Also have a ported TB for $100 as well hahaha. Bonus, they've been on the fastest LSx powered Datsun out there
  11. I know a guy with the JCI mounts that uses the edelbrock pro-flo style intake. Its pretty competitive with the holley. I was planning on going with it but now I have a cowl hood so I can pretty much do whichever I want. Side note, is this for an NA car? The holley isn't the greatest setup for a NA car, and making power with boost on a ls1/6 is no big deal. I made 950rwhp on a ls6 at 16lbs of boost with a S484 turboed 402. The intake wasn't my limiter either at the time, it was injector size.
  12. Made a few dyno passes, but ran out of injectors (80lbers). Maxed out in the low 900rwhp. The tuning was done by Nate at AOP in Fresno. Car drives like its stock, but makes an insane amount of power. After that, the only thing left to do, was go to the track again! Car drove nicely the 100 miles each way. This is about as hot as it got, which considering the blower setup ran around 215 on the freeway was AWESOME. Car did well, still only 15-16lbs of boost, but we adjusted the suspension a bit. I plan on going a bit faster this year. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyX5XkKVZ-k I believe this pass is the fastest pass for an LS powered Datsun to date. Sadly, a few passes after my 8.7, I saw a drop in oil pressure on the return road (About 15 at idle down from 30), so I trailered the car home. Motor still ran perfectly, but I didn't want to hurt anything. I was planning on refreshing the engine and going for low 8s, but I picked up a new motor to play with so now I'm going to either sell the longblock as it sits if anyone is interested, refresh it and sell it for more money, or part out all the components.
  13. Make sure someone with the same mounts does the measurements, since different swap kits locate the engine in different places.
  14. What mount kit are you using and what intake are you trying to fit?
  15. No, honestly I am curious more than anything. Figured I could see how fast people are going out there with their datsuns. Pretty stoked that I might be top of the bunch for now though. I plan on going a LOT faster over the next year too. Yeah, that was at 15psi, it trapped 160 the next time out with 17psi. Can't wait to turn it up to 25-30psi and see what happens
  16. http://youtu.be/kTF-CCRO4qs This was my first 8 second pass. The car has gone 8.71 so far with some minor suspension adjustments and 2lbs more boost. I'm currently pulling the car apart to put a stronger block in it before I break the aluminum ls2 I have currently. From the research I've done, I think I currently am the fastest LS swapped 240z out there, which is surprising since my car would have easily done 8.40s if I had more time to tinker with the suspension last time out. (I currently live in Chicago, and the car resides in California.
  17. http://ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-hybrids/1498171-1972-240z-blown-hybrid.html thats my original build thread from when the car was blown, not turbo. Have most of the pictures on there.
  18. Yes. Its easy and quick, I've done it a few times. Only a few of the pan bolts are a pain to get to.
  19. Thats generic for ALL Z cars. Doesn't really say what engine. And I'm pretty sure since I would be #3 on that list overall, that not everyone is on there. Looking for LS engined only, not really interested in anything else. Also According to that list I am #1 for LS powered cars but I was curious who else is lurking out there.
  20. Just was talking to some friends today about obscure records, and I got to wondering. Who has the fastest LS powered 240/260/280z out there in a 1/4 mile? Kinda interested to see what else is hiding around
  21. Nothing got broken externally, I used throttle to set the front down again nicely. But this is why I added an accusump and rerouted the location of the pickup. This wheelie killed a few bearings and one piston. (found out after driving 100 miles home...)
  22. Yeah seriously, ever single long tube endeavor on this website has ended in partial disaster. Its a huge amount of headache for very little result, which is why the response is so dismal...
