  1. it is limited by aerodynamic drag-if you put it on a roller dyno it would probably go 140 or 150.find a buddy with a late model vette to block the wind for you.i hope you have at least h speed rated tires-better v or z.

  3. i would be interested in some lower controlarms for rear that could be adjusted from underneath while on alignment rack.the arizone z car arms looked like you would have to pull the pivot bolt to twist heim joint to adjust-not easy.i dont like the sound of camber plates rattling behind my head but i re-align car before track events to set it up-so now i have camber plates.i would like a car that has no rattles but can still be set up for the track.
  4. some times certain combinations of parts dont work out and you dont now till dyno day after you spent all of your money and some on the visa too.it happens to every body once or twice.this is called learning by your own wallet.best thing to do with a motor is copy some body elses if it pulled big dyno numbers.
  5. i body got a wind tunnell?i havent done this kind of testing but i have driven mine to 135 mph-it feels a little light.maybe if car is equipped with coil overs you could lower front real low and raise rear.any body want to try black rock dry lake for a weekend?

    i heard the ring gear bolts are different size between lsd and open diff. igot a 370 lsd on garage floor and a3.54 out side but i havent taken any ring gear bolts out to see.but your idea about swapping open diff carrier for lsd is how i put a lsd unit in my ford van that i tow my car to track with.it took .5 hour to change it over.
  7. stony-you can get rid of voltage regulater.i run a zxt turbo alt on my 77z.you extend 2 wires from regulater to new alt.the wire that went to charge light goes to i terminal.the wire that has b+ goes to s terminal.if you wanted to you could probably rebuild the harness to run in fenderwell.
  8. they body and paint work is great !matching paint under hood.did you build car and run it then take it apart to paint it?i would go crazy debugging a car this neat.
  9. want to hop up stock l28turbo in my car but it seems to expensive.i have lifted and carried a 5.0 block-its light.i have to drag a l28 datsun block.thinking about building a 5.0 with aluminum heads that will rev to 7000 rpm with solid roller lifters and a t5 trans-will this be lighter?i am talking loaded engine complete with alternator.i am a tech at a ford dealer so i get free stuff sometimes.
  10. the easy way to put 8.8 tbird axle shafts would be to respline 280zxt shafts to fit tbird inner cv joint.probably the only reason i would put a 8.8 in would be to get a more liveable axle ratio with a v8 car so i could make long runs and get 20 mpg.at thunder hill i saw a v8 miata with a tbidr rear.the tbird axle shafts dont have drive flanges on the wheel ends.the go through the hub like a front wheel drive car.the wheel bearing is a front wheel drive bearing and is not as strong as a 280 z stub shaft & bearing assembly.
  11. rating was gross hp.wheels probably about 130 to 140.a 3.1 stroker engine with aftermarkit efi will probably make 200 to 230 at rear wheels.that is why people build v8 zcars.engines cheaper to hop up.then there is the quality of the horse power.this is called bottem end torque.right now you can buy a NEW chevy in crate with car b and distributor for $3000 -thats 330 hp with 380ft/lbs of torque with a 1 year warrenty.a nissan will never make this much torque no matter what you do to it and torque is what slams your head into the seat.i drive a turbo 77 but i pieced it together with junk yard parts.runs a low 14 1/4 mile with easy launch but i use the car for road racing.
  12. i know ford brakes! that is what i do at work.the recall about mustangs rolling away is on the news but no notices at work yet.the public gets news faster than we do.the ebrake handle assembly slips.nothing to do with rear of car.ford rear brakes are light duty made in brazil junk.th z31 & z32 300 zx have nice looking vented rotors.i would probably build some billit aluminum brackits and run willwood calipers.
  13. i am a ford dealer tech.that is a fair deal if you get all the stuff you need.you will have to have the ecm reprogrammed so it will not put out codes with no cats and so it will start with out a PATS key.the ford dealers have a book called evtm that you will need to wire this up.do you know OBD2?you will know enough to get a dealer tech job when you are done with this.this car had 4 02 sensors-2in front of cats and 2 behind to monitor cat failure.ingnition is direct coil on plug-no plug wires.us a 75 to 78 z gas tank for easy fuel pump install.2000 motor has more hp than older units.trans is shifted by computor .od is locked out by button and shifter has only 3 positions-you could use a stock z auto shifter and bend a rod to hook it up.nobody has done this swap but it shouldnt be to hard.get the jtr book -it has lots of usefull info.good luck
  14. morgan-put some truck manifolds or 200sx manifolds on backwards and put the engine in the car and go for it.or leave some 3" long pieces of pipe on the manifolds and find a good muffler shop that does custom work.the shop that did the 3" mandrel bend system on my car does lots of hot rod fab work.
  15. try 90s ford tbirds.cougars.lincoln mk8 with 8.8 ring gear lots of ratios and lsd units.
  16. i would probably get a edelbrock victor jr and weld injector bosses into it .get4 bbl air door and then take my pick of aftermarkit electronics to use.you know that manifold will flow some air.you could even use a sds system and save some money.
  17. the nismo trans are rare and expensive.you could try a 82 or 83 280zx trans -ratios are close except for 5th which you might not use.this is what i run in my 77/81zxt for road race tracks that i run on .
  18. got a 87 r200 lsd rear .i know i could swap my 280 z pinion flange on to new rear end but i dont want to upset the pinion bearing preload .i was wondering if any body knew where i could get a different yoke for rear of drive shaft to match the 87zx pinion flange.i have a motorsport drive shaft with serviceable u joints.
  19. for 12 large if you did a lot of your own work you could get 800 hp.i would start with a used non bored yet 4 bolt truck block.then buy your crank rods & pistons.a block that has been used is heat seasoned .get some good heads and roller valve train.for intake i would use a edelbrock victor jr with injector bosses welded in and a 4 barrel air door from a place like kinsler injection.for the electronics i would use the new fel-pro injection system with wide band 5 wire o2 sensor.if you got some shorty headers and bolted them on backwards you could feed the turbos.2 turbos would mean small turbos - but no lag.call turbonetics.you would need a killer trans for this.automatics are the best with turbos because they stay spooled up.
  20. when i bought my z some body had replaced the alternator,voltage regulater.battery and still no charge.found an open field wire between alt and regulater.but later on i put in a 280zxt internal regulater alt and ran the output wire directly to battery wire on starter.good luck
  21. another source for 4.6l dohc ford is a lincoln mk8-that is where cobra motor came from.different intake manifold though.
  22. i have seen one out of car since i am a tech at a ford dealer.engine is a lot wider.but should fit.does not use standard t5.uses a t45 with one piece case-bellhousing not removable.block only weighs about 70 lbs bare-its aluminum.pan is flat in front-should fit over crossmember ok.all pumps and alt are mounted directly to engine.but you can delete parts and run a shorter belt.i dont think these are that much faster than a turbo z but engine is very smooth.
  23. that is probably a very good 4 bolt core engine.a used heat cycled block is better than a new block.i learned this the hard way.i would use this block before i would use a new block.good luck with your project.

  25. i am a ford dealer tech that drives a z.best ford turbo engine was a 87 or 88 tbird intercooled .had biggest injectors and best intercooler.the l28 is easy to assemble-i would put it back together.if the oem injection wiring is messed up i woild install an aftermarkit efi system.
