  1. I bought MSA's fiberglass bumpers and was fairly happy with them. True they weren't exactly finished and required some sanding, but the end result was good enough for me.
  2. Just finished rebuilding (replaced boots and regreased) my u-joint halfshafts this weekend and was curious. I had two sets to work with (long story) and had planned on using a third one for a spare but ran into a snag. The pair that I did complete had a cap/o-ring snap ringed on the back side, but the other looks more like an interference fit cap which was hammered on from the factory. Is this something I can remove and replace with something like the other?
  3. Some of you were probably already thinking this, but man, I wish the track was still there! http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/Riverside.html
  4. If emmisions are not of a concern, I would leave it vent to the atmosphere. I was running mine with the lower breather (in the block) removed and freeze plugged, and a K&N breather filter on the top.
  5. The problem with the flex hoses is you can't bend them real tight, no where near the moded ZX hose. What really sucks is if it's bent too much, the wire inside yeilds and kinks in that spot, at least the stuff I've dealt with. Also a shallower bend with the flex hose has got to have as much, if not more, resistance than a molded one. bastaad525, you should name your car "He hate me".
  6. Thanks guys. Yeah, I currently have a flexhose running around the back of the alternator which seems to work pretty good. The only problem is I have a dual oil filter setup on the strut tower, and the hose rests against one of the filters a bit. The motor's on solid mounts so I don't think it's that big of a deal. But this also causes a tighter bend and I'm a little concerned about that as well. Are all the ZX hoses pretty much the same? I don't recall a separate listing for the turbo models either. There was no way the 79-81 hose was going to fit without cutting an splicing, and even after doing that, I wasn't happy with it.
  7. Did a search and couldn't come up with anything. It seems pretty simple, but it's giving me fits! Does anyone have suggestions as to what kind of L-series lower hose to use with Dave's radiator? I'm really surprised with the lack of support from him on this. According to his page, he recomends using a ZX lower hose but doesn't specify what year. When I asked him, he couldn't tell me. Victoria British lists a 79-81, and 82-83, tried the earlier one, but it fit poorly. Maybe a 280Z hose?
  8. Must have been a case of mistaken identity. I was another unlucky soul who was ripped off by Jim Edwards. He also had his add listed in NC as parting out a 78 280Z.
  9. For what it's worth, Dave at Arizona Zcar has his IMSA GTU (G-nose kit) molds for sale. It's a bit extreme, but man does it look cool.
  10. Actually I'm just spreading the word so I can drive MY 350Z home that much sooner. 8)
  11. FYI There's a 350Z/Harley raffle (choice of either) at: http://www.thelostsquadron.com/raffle.html $100 a ticket, and the raffle is held after 500 are sold, odds not too bad. I believe they have about 170 tickets to go. This is a fund raiser for their P-38 Lightning restoration, which was pulled out of a glacier in Greenland. There was a pretty good program on The History Channel about it...don't know when it will air again.
  12. Thanks Drax, yeah from the reviews it looks like your right. The best price I could find is $50 used/$70 new. A bit painfull, but oh well.
  13. Fair enough, I was kinda hoping for a "suspension geometry for dummies" I have some publications comming in the mail anyhow.
  14. I searched on this and didn't come up with much of anything. There was a lengthy discussion on solid axle vs IRS, but nothing on this subject. What are the arguments with stut vs double a-arm suspensions, specifically when building a tube frame car for SCCA competition? It seems like double a-arms are all the rage. Is this mainly because of the rules? In Fred Puhn's book, "How to Make Your Car Handle", he skimmed the surface a bit about roll centers, but that was about it.
  15. I must be one of the only guys that has had good luck with him, although I only bought 1 part, a TWM side draft manifold. I was very happy with it, but he's just the middle man.
  16. Amen, I was very surprised to see all of them not using an auto darkner, especially since they've come down in price quite a bit. They are a bunch of knobs, but I'll cut them a little slack on Monster Garage, just because of the time limit. Watching them makes me realize I don't give myself enough credit sometimes. I realize MIG's are adaquate for steel, but me being the consumate perfectionist...gotta get a TIG. There's nothing like a nice TIG weld. Plus having been dabling more in other materials like AL and SS, its almost a must.
  17. Thanks for the info. I've been considering buying a Lincoln Squarewave TIG welder lately, but your comments scared me away just a bit. I currently own a Lincoln SP125 MIG machine, which I am extremely happy with, as well as an OA setup. Being fairly proficient with both of these, how much more skillset do you think would be required to operate a TIG?
  18. I can't shake the image of you "asking" him with a tommy gun in your hand.
  19. I don't know why, but I'm die'n to do run side drafts on a V8 too.
  20. There's a guy on Ebay selling Solex carbs, and not Mikuni/Solex's. They look very similar to the Mikuni's. Are these what your talking about? I'm curious if anyone else has tried these on z's?
  21. Saw this auction on Ebay, I was under the impression that Mikuni/Solex were the only Solex's side drafts available. Is Solex still in business? Can you get replacement parts for these? Will Mikuni/Solex jets interchange? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2463608788&category=33550

  24. Beleive it or not, I got to see a XJR-15 in action, again at RA. The coolest part was watching Dave Dutko in his GT2 280 duke it out lap after lap with that car. Every time they came around the leader would swap. Unfortunately at the end, the Jag was ahead. Here's an exerpt from http://www.distant.ca/UselessFacts/fact.asp?ID=200 On June 11, 1955 during the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France a tragic accident occurred on the front straight involving Pierre Levegh and Mike Hawthorn. Levegh's Mercedes was destroyed, killing him instantly. The engine and other pieces of his car were flung over the barrier into the crowd and killed 83 spectators. Though the race continued, Mercedes withdrew their other two cars. The crash was one of the worst disasters in motorsport history and has changed the sport to this day. After the race France had a temporary moratorium on racing and races around the world were cancelled. Switzerland permanently banned racing and the sport has never been re-established there. Near the end of the 1955 racing season Mercedes shut down all of it's racing operations.
  25. Fun car, but man does it look ancient!
