420hp? I'm curious on your setup. Is that on 91-93 octane or 116?
-
I'm putting my IC plumbing together and it looks like I may have to take off the turbo to weld on this 90" bend. I took some pics of it. Could you tell me if it would be possible to weld this piece on without taking off the intake manifold or turbo? Second question. If I were to use silicone to connect it, would it be pretty safe at high boost provided I'm using the best grade silicone (which I am) beaded ends and t-clamps? I would rather do that than take this stuff off again as I'm sure I can't reuse the manifold gasket after having torqued the bolts down. Oh yeah, that brings me to a third question. Does anyone make a metal exhaust manifold gasket? and how hard would that be to frabricate ( for an experienced fabricator)? Here are the pics I took of the Turbo/ 90' bend Dave http://photos.yahoo.com/d__minus

Any auto/hardware parts stores carry T-bolt clamps cheap??
violacleff replied to a topic in Turbo / Supercharger
I bought my clamps at road race. They had the nicer ones for $6 a clamp, a step down for $4 and the cheap ones for $2. I went with the $4 one's for now but will upgrade them later on when I have the money to do so. -
Pics of my progress that actually work this time

Thanks for the compliments. The IC is an HPI, i'm using MAF, z31 conversion though I haven't changed the coil yet in those pics I got the Z31 turbo coil in now. BTW I didn't buy those wheels and do plan to change them, but performance first while I put up with the ridicule for them. Oh yeah right now I'm just using greddy E-manage for a piggy back ems, and will later go Stand alone sometime next year. At that time I will decide which brand to go with. Probably will do the SDS. This setup should be good for 400 hp to wheels hopefully at 21-22 lbs of boost. I probably won't be able to manage that though without stand alone. But I'll take the E-manage as far as it will go. -
http://photos.yahoo.com/d__minus So here's my swap. I've since mounted the 240sx TB spark plugs half the wiring harness and just got the intercooler plumbing this week. Still need fuel fittings and Electric fan. I'm trying to figure out how i'm gonna do cold air.
-
OK, I take back what I said about the salesman giving me a "you get the z car discount" line over the phone. I just got my 45" hose from turbohoses.com and he did give me 20% off. I still can't figure out the justification of prices for silicone, but I guess that's the cost for performance.
-
I feel a lot better now. Well then, its off to get my piping beaded and polished. Thanks for the tips guys
-
Hmm I still have the piping in the box and receipt. Perhaps I should send it back and get the aluminum. I hate to do things twice. I will be running 15-16 lbs. of boost regurlarly. BTW, I did contact hoover. His guy said he was giving me the Z car discount. Well the price of the bend was $45 bucks. He never told me what the discount was, but the total with shipping was $50 I work in sales. I know what the special discount is. Retail price with the feeling that you got the special discount. Oh well at least I had a cool Z chat with the salesman. Anyway am I paranoid? Should I just do things right? Send the SS back and get aluminum? What do the rest of you guys think?
-
Are there any major disadvantages to using stainless steel over aluminum? I bought SS piping, but after talking to the guys over at Road Race, I'm thinking perhaps I should have gone with aluminum for cooler air. Any opinions? BTW whats the justification for the price of silicone hoses? I had to pay $45 bucks for a 45 deg bend!! (don't really need an answer to that just bitching). One other thing. Is there any preferred brand or specific electric fan that is best for my setup, with 2 1/2" piping? Thanks

For you guys that havent driven your L28ET Z yet and times..

Its kill lists like that, that give me the faith to keep pouring money into this this car. Thanks for the inspiration, I'm on my way to pep boys. -
Few questions before making more purchases.

Ok nice pic. Thanks. So you're using two 90* couplers at the inlent/outlet, and one 45* coming from the throttle body? I have to measure my turbo outlet, I'm not sure what the diameter is on a T4. Also I'm not sure what the diameter is on the 240sx TB. if they are smaller than the piping, should I order a reducer? JC whitney sells them. In fact they sell everything, and I'm doing the math to see what comes out cheaper between JC and the ebay kit. I guess I gotta figure out exactly what I need. BTW that Jag is pretty crazy. Its a '91. -
am i crazy to have this as my daily driver now...?

You would wear a hawaiin lei around your neck and could still never look stupid driving a car like that. Sharper image $30 AC $800. I'll take the look stupid route. Besides you gotta keep the windows down for the conversations you have at every stop light -
Ok so I'm not a total idiot then. So the Walbro works on its own then, not in conjunction with the stocker, like this guy says?
-
Please forgive my ignorance but..... Ok I purchased a Walbro GSL 392 inline fuel pump for my turbo car. I was under the assumption that this was a replacement for the stock fuel pump. But last night I was told that an inline fuel pump was used with the stocker and mounted in the engine compartment? Could someone please advise? Next I bought a JSK fuel rail from someone, brand new in the box. It had a bunch of fittings, but I was told that there was some brackets that are supposed to go with it. I don't seem to have any with mine. Does anyone else have one? If this is so I guess I can email Juan and ask for the price, but it didn't look to me like it was that big of a deal to have one. But what do I know. Thats all for now. I think I'm about 2 weeks short of getting this thing running. Thanks

I don't have AC in mine either, nor have I for the last two years in the inland empire. My plan is to to buy one of those cooler thingy's you put around your neck that they sell at the sharper image, I hear they work pretty good and cool your whole body. Besides my window tint is too dark to keep rolled up. -

Cynusgx (I think I spelled that right) Are you running an electric fan(s) or stock fan? -
OK, I'm ready to buy the intercooler piping. I had a fellow Z enthusiast come help me today, and he said that with the size of my turbo (T4), I should not go any smaller than 2.5 piping. He also said that I oughta use 2 electric fans. One of his ideas was to mount one behind the radiator, and one between the radiator and IC. Is this a decent idea? BTW he has a 3.1 stroker turbo L28 in his '91 Jag, so he has never done this in an S30 before. I know that the general concensus here is that 2.25 was the easiest fit. Is 2.5 possible using electric fans with a stock dizzy location? Yes I have read all posts. Thanks.

I have the L88 hood scoop on my 73 now. I get compliments on it all the time, and it sets my z apart aesthetically. Currently it is not a functional cowl induction. You have to cut it when you buy it. I am about to have mine cut for CI as soon as I'm finish the turbo swap. I can't ever get pics to load on here but I'll email you some if you like to see how it looks.
-
When swapping in the new wiring harness (83 turbo), are there any existing wires from from the stock electrical that are taken out/replaced or is the new harness a complete add-on to everything that's there? (Minus the wires that won't apply). It's going into a '73.

Blue Z L28ET swap is done! and new name for it!! pics!!!

Looks awesome!! I'm jealous. Under a grand? The A-team couldn't pull off such a feat and they make weapons out of soda cans and screw drivers! Nice work. Get a video clip. I wanna hear the noisy bastard -
Really? I can see them from my comp. Can noone else see it?

I noticed that the "bumble bee" looking Z routed his through the top of the radiator support where my IC is. Is the bottom hole large enough to run it through there? BTW next part I'm ordering is a heat shield for the turbo. That should clean up the look of that ugly compressor.

The only true Z fans in 350z's were the owners that had them the first 4 months or so when they came out. Many of them were S30 owners in their younger days. These would always wave, honk, thumbs up etc. Most the cats that have them now have no connection with the 73-96 crowd. Can't wait to get my car running so I can teach them to respect the elder Z

I just read in a post that the firewall was a dangerous place to mount it if drag racing regarding slow n rusty's setup. If on the wall though, must there be a nut and bolt assembly? is screwing it in secure enough? I don't see any other way.

I have a 240z, Aeromotive FPR and JSK fuel rail. Thanks Dave
