  2. In that case We'll just jump on it and see what happens. I'm going from nothing to z31 ecu. None of the harness is hooked up. I will be using a piggy back ems. Thanks for the help
  3. Well I talked to my buddy who's been helping me thus far. He said to get him the diagrams and he'll look over them tommorow and see if it's something he can tackle. The problem is he's scared if he screws something up that the whole thing will go kaboom. Is this really possibe/probable? Or would it just not run right until the problem was addressed?
  4. I was wondering if there was anyone in the Socal area who has done this before with the z31ecu. Would any mobile mechanic be able to do this with a wiring diagram? Anyone know how much this would cost me? How much should I pay for a job like this?
  5. Hey guys, tonight at 8:00, the history channel is doing a full special on the 240z. Just wanted to give you heads up.
  6. Thanks, I better check that out. I've never used one before. Thats why I posted the pics. Hopefully any major mistakes can be seen in the pics. Hey Z-gad i'm gonna video tape the first blowup, I mean startup and post it for sure.
  7. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/d__minus/my_photos Please ignore the fittings on the fuel rail as it is a mickey mouse job. I will be using two 45's instead of all those couplers, the shop was out of them though. The swap is almost done. Still gotta wire it (you can see the harness sitting in there) and get an exhaust. Also I'm using the Z31 turbo coil, but I havent replaced it yet. I got it in my garage though. After the wiring's done I'll be replacing the MSD ignition amp for the HKS twin power which is also in my garage. Hoping to have it on the road by next Saturday. OH yeah and I got the fuel filter on backwards too. The mexican guy in the pic is my dear friend Jose who saved me from a project that was way over my head.
  8. ok I went to pep boys, and the guy told me that I could make an intake out of flex tubing from home depot. I thought it sounded like a good idea, however the tubing is ribbed inside and out. Would that noticeably affect my airflow?
  9. I have a '73 with an l28et. My IC piping is routed the same as Bastaad525 and Cygnusx (using both holes at the top two ends of the radiator) I have a '45 coupler off the TB to clear the dizzy and my greddy type R bov is mounted pointing downwards. The problem is that my air filter is to big to clear anything down there (mainly the bov). So I'm wondering if I should route some '3 aluminum piping under the radiator and upwards behind the grill. My other option is buy the smallest air filter I can find and just doing a 45' downwards where the sway bar is. Though I have read some concerns about being too close to the ground and sucking up water. Is there anything wrong doing it the first way? I don't feel like buying another $100 air filter. Also is there any cheaper material that I could use from say home depot to route it? 90' bends in aluminum and 3' couplers get expensive (for me). Any advice is welcomed. Thanks
  10. If not how would I cipher it out, and is there any additive I could stick in there to help out? What would you suggest?
  11. Well a friend of mine said that he would take my pipes to get polished from a shop that owed him, while I have been out of state. 1 mo. later and he still hasn't gotten to it. Big surprise. OK question is I've never done any polishing before, and was curious if a good job could be done at home in say an 8-10 hr. period? The shop will take a week to get it back to me and I need to get my car running as soon as I get back. BTW the metal's SS. Is it possible to do a polish job after installing the piping? If so I would rather go that route as I'm tired of this car being down. I have it routed exactly like Cygnus and Bastaad. Any suggestions?
  12. I was set on this swap before I decided to purchase the l28et setup. 6k later I'm wondering if I should have done the rb25 now seeing the pics cause it looks so cool, and of course considering its potential. Well I suppose I made the right decision seeing that this was my first ever swap and still don't have it running yet. The Rb may have never been running and this is my daily driver . Hey I'm curious what size turbo will you be running on this setup? What type of HP numbers are you shooting for? Looks awesome so far. Hey James (and RB25ers) I'm curious what the power band/curve is on these engines are like compared to the LTurbo motors?
  13. Its that 250ish and above or up to 250? Would he recommend something different for higher hp applications? Or would those do fine?
  14. For all the L28et guys, I was wondering what's the most RWHP you have been able to obtain safely before having to use higher octane fuel (specifically from 91)? What is your CR? What type of EMS are/were you using?
  15. Go L28et its over documented and there will always be help for you. If you could get the motor put together (for whatever that would cost) you could make a friend with a backyard mechanic and he will help you swap it in for the cost of a 6 pack of beer. I've gotten Thousands of $$$ worth of work done on my car from 4 diff guys for beer. In fact none of them would take $ from me when I offered it. Its extremely easy to bolt in. If you attempt this with an sr20 your friends will become discouraged and give up on you. I was in the exact same position as you, and was contemplating an RB25. That would have been the worst decision of my life. My current setup will be good for easy 400hp once I get a stand alone, and thats all my rearend could take. BTW you will learn a hell of a lot by watching the process as I did, and you won't feel like an idiot at car shows when people ask about your setup as I used to with my NA setup that I bought with the car. Now I feel proud that I had my hand in every step up the process on this swap and feel a lot more pride for my car. Well thats all. Don't wanna break Bastaad's record.
  16. There is a guy on here who did this swap into a ZX. He posts all the time. According to him it required lots of trial and error as well as fabrication to clear the stearing. Is the engine compartment a lot different on 70-78 z's?
  17. Sweet. Jegs says you can mount it a the header or the exhaust pipes. Where did you mount yours? BTW you said you can hear a small turbo whistle at idle. Will I hear a big one (T4) whistle during spoolup? I love the sound of that. I wonder if they sell electric cutouts. I'll look around. I know the early impala's came with one as a factory option.
  18. ON3GO I've never seen a cutout like that before. It looks sweet though. My question is how loud is it when running full exhaust? Would it pull every cop in town towards you? Actually, was it any louder than say a 3.0l NA with a flowmaster 2.5 in exhuast? I only got pulled once in a year with that and it was loud as hell. But a turbo motor would sound bitchin with something like that I think. I figure I would just run it open on the weekands. Do your ears hurt w/ open exhaust?
  19. Westminister autobody. Pete Santini is a good friend of mine and very respected. He painted an SRT-4 wit a Cuda scheme that was on the front page of Turbo this summer, and numerous other cars that have appeared in magazines. He's an honest guy as well. I'm gonna take my car to him when I'm ready for a paint job. BTW thats about an hour from where you are.
  20. I was surprised how many thumb ups I got from guys in SL 500's and like cars (I lived in newport beach) but the funniest was when I stopped at an atm, and 30 yr old woman comes up to me and says "OH MY GOD IS THAT A 240 Z? CAN I SMELL IT? Then goes on ranting about how she loved these cars as a younger girl. Damn I wish my car was running again.
  21. Just out of curiosity, what would be the advantages/power gain of headers over a modified stock exhaust manifold? I know a header looks better, but for now I want to dump my money into performance.
  22. To add on to what Bastaad said, make sure the bov and be rerouted into the intake. I may be wrong but I don't think all of them will do that. I know the greddy type S will and the SSQ will, but the type S functions better, and doesn't sound like a turkey being killed the way a SSQ does when venting. I've seen reviews on the Blitz being from not so great to So-so but ON3GO seems to like it. One other thing to consider is that some BOV's are not meant to be used over 10-15 lbs of boost, so I'd do my homework on that. I personally bought the Greddy Type R for my car but have yet to install it. W'ell see how it works out.
  23. Thanks for the reply. The only reason I was going to weld it was because I was told to use the least amount of silicone as possible. But if a good coupler will work, then I rather go with that, and use a heat shield to protect it. Speaking of the heat shield, I have seen to types: the wrap, and the Stainless hard one. Is there a difference for the use of these and which would you recommend?
