  1. Your "mid temp blues" could be caused by the choke releasing before the engine is warm enough. As for your bog, check the choke pull-off. It regulates the opening of the secondary air valve. Happy tuning, Don
  2. Go to TCI's web site for info on dimensions, gear ratios, and speedometer gears. http://www.tciauto.com/tech_info/ Keep in mind that the Datusn speedo uses 1024 revs per mile vs 1001 revs per mile when you do the math for the speedo gears. I would recommend a good shift kit for the 200-4R if you plan to do any spirited driving. I put a stock rebuilt 200-4R behind my 383 in my '72 240z and it would slip on full throttle shifts. I installed a transgo shift kit and it made a world of difference. Unfortunately, some damage was already done and after several trips to the drag strip second gear is now toasted. I had some clearance problems with the trans cooler lines. I had to install right angle fittings in the trans case to clear the tunnel. Best of luck, Don
  3. Larry, I solved this problem, car still runs when cutoff switch is turned off, on my drag race only '72 Nova by connecting the "Battery" terminal on the alternator to the battery side of the cutoff switch. I had to run a long wire since the battery and cutoff switch are mounted in the back, but it solved the problem. Regards, Don
  4. Thanks guys. Usually, nobody gives my car a second look. I may get a chance to defend the HybridZ honor now... Don
  5. Jason, I built a 383 SBC with AFR 190 heads, 10:1 compression, Lunati cam with .480" lift/230@.050" duration, Performer RPM intake, and Q-jet carb. The trans is a 200-4R with a stock converter. It ran 11.69 @ 120 MPH on BFG drag radials. I'd be happy to show you the car next time you're passing through Gilroy. Email me at dmanzo57@yahoo.com for my address and directions. Don
  6. Im using a MSD Extra Duty billet distributor and MSD 6AL box with a MSD Blaster 2 coil. The distributor has both mechanical and vacuum advance. I've put about 7000 miles on the car in the last 8 months commuting to/from work plus about a dozen 1/4 mile passes at the drag strip. No troubles yet. Don
  7. Thanks to all the great information posted to this site, I was able to find a wheel/tire combo that fits perfectly(without spacers)! Wheels: Centerline Convo Pro, 15x7.5, 4 7/8 BS Tires: Yokohama AVS Intermediate 215/60-15(front) 235/60-15(rear) Thanks again, Don '72 V8Z
  8. I would recommend the Weiand aluminum long pump. It's got an outlet for the heater and bosses for accessory brackets. It costs around $110. Don
  9. Congratulations on getting the car on the road! I had the same problem the first time I drove my car after installing the V8. I tried a new stock mount, but it did not solve the problem. I ended up drilling and tapping two holes in the front of the diff mount and bolting on a piece of 2" angle iron that extends under the crossmember. The angle iron limits the upward movement of the diff to about 1/4". Don
  10. Tim, I've got a 200-4R behind the 383 in my 240Z. I bought it for $250 as a stock rebuilt unit and then added a Trans-go shift kit. I've put about 6K miles on it and 2 trips to the drag strip this year. So far, it's holding up well. Don
  11. Excelent choice. I'm real happy with my AFR190's. Your dad better look out! Don
  12. I've got a MSD6AL ignition in my V8 powered '72 240Z. I had to install a MSD Tach Adapter, part number 8910, in order to get the stock tach to work. There is a adjustment screw in the back of the tach that can be used to calibrate the tach for the V8. JTR says to remove that tach from the dash for adjustment, but it can be done by reaching up from under the dash. I used the rev limiter to calibrate the tach by installing a 3K RPM module and then adjusting the tach until it read 3K when up against the limiter. Don
  13. Jim, Neapco makes a solid journal U-joint if you can't find the Spicer part. The Neapco part number is 1-0029BF. I've had good luck with them so far, but I have an automatic trans behind my 383. Don
  14. How about 550HP @ 6000RPM? From AFR's web site... RPM Torque H.P. 16. I remember having a tough time installing mine. I had to remove the polyurethane bushings from the mustache bar. Place one half of the bushing and the metal sleeve on the long stud, slide the mustache bar over the stud and bushing, then install the other half of the bushing. Don
  17. I didn't have any trouble installing my shifter after installing the 383/200-4R in my '72. I bought a Hurst Quarter Stick pistol grip shifter. It's a very nice shifter, but kind of expensive, $220. It's compact enough to fit in the hole in the original 4-spd console without any cutting. Don
  18. Take a look at these engine combos... http://www.airflowresearch.com/chevy_dyno.htm My engine is based on the 460HP 383. My 1/4 mile times show that it makes ~425 HP(flywheel) through a single 3" exhaust system. I had been driving it daily to work, 64 miles round trip, until I broke the differential at the drag strip. The engine has been very reliable and streetable. I was getting about 16 MPG on my commute, 1 hour to drive 32 miles. Don
  19. I asked the guy at Powertrax for dimensions and spline count for the C200 unit. He said he would send the overall dimensions once the drawings are finalized, but did not know when that would be. He did state that it had a 7.8" ring gear and 29 spline. Don
  20. Thanks, Lone. That's too bad. I've got another R200 on the way from Zbarn. I'll see how long this one lasts... Don
  21. Has anyone heard of a C200 differential? I sent email to Powertrax asking if they were working on a locker unit for the Nissan R200 differential. The response was "We are in design with the C200 differential I don't know if it is the same". Is the R200 also known as a C200, or are they completely different? Thanks, Don
  22. I'm using the factory tach in my '72 240z. I'm using a MSD distributor and MSD6AL ignition box. I had to use the MSD tach adaptor to get the 240z(current triggered) tach to work. I calibrated it using the RPM limiter set to 3K RPM. After calibrating at 3K, I set the limit to 6K and the tach reads around 6200 when the limiter kicks in. It's close enough for me... Don
  23. I installed at #8 bulkhead fitting in the stock 240z tank near the sending unit. I made a pick-up out of 1/2" tubing to the bottom/rear of the tank. Don
