I had the same question when I was installing my slotted rotors (fronts are vented but with straight vanes). I called a number of brake manufactures with great reputations and the answers I got were / and , depending on the manufacture. So I have to agree with John's reply....."Doesn't matter. Do what looks nice to you." I decided to go with the inner point of the slots leading. Currently I'm see certain manufactures using a squiggle type slot pattern that do not extend to either the inner or outer edge of the rotors. I suspect the important thing is to just have a travel path for the hot gases to escape from between the pads and rotors.

no' date=' I am talking about dynamic. If i were talking about static I would be throwing around numbers like 10:1 and the like.
anyone else?[/quote']
Some students are a bit haisty in their responce. When I was your age I knew everything too!!! Sorry for the slam, but you needed it!
-
Wow, Really? I don't know that my instincts would allow me to not use bushings!
???
-
I can't provide you an answer but I think you are talking about static compression, not dynamic.
-
Just a note.....if you do decide to use bushings, be sure they are not too long as this will not allow the ring gear bolts to clamp the ring gear securely. Many do not use the bushings and Precision Gear endorses this method.

sweet!!! now hopefully it will be as fast.
Fast? not with that old Honda twin...to small! Basically the bike looks like a quick way to the hospital (death trap)....but hey, maybe the guy is having fun building it, and that a good thing.

Hi everyone,
Just a reminder to those interested in attending this event. There will be a Z car corral for parking your beast....by far better than general public parking! Anyway, Mark Davey with Z owners of Northern California called me last night to remind me of the event and that a minimum of 30 spots must be confirmed to have corral parking. $65.00 per car (proceeds going to charity). More info can be had @ ZONC.org or give Mark a call at (775)267-0475. So start making plans and think about driving up as a group....intend to all the twisty back roads on the way up. Had a great time last year.

You can simply test it with a 12VDC power source and a small cup of solvent.
-
These distributors are notoriuos for going bad! The advance mechanism in the distributor rotates on small ball bearings, with a plastic cage, that over time the plasic cage fails. Just some food for thought!

Put the pencil down and walk away from the paper!!!

Regarding a torque wrench that will register 20 ft/lbs (240 inch/lbs).....Buy an inch/lbs torque wrench! 1 ft/lb = 12 inch/lb
-
Just one detail to point out....Cup cars (Nextel Cup) do use hydraulic jacks and they get stuffed under each side of the car and are actuated by the handle on the jack! No air jacks on these puppies!
-
Correction......cutting oil, not lube! Those steering arms are bloody hard eh, sounds like someone is converting to rod ended steering. Like everyone else has said, drill slow and use lubrication. -
Come on, we're living in the 21st century.....aren't we??? People used to think the world was flat too and that it was not possible to travel faster than the speed of sound. Oh well! The only beast one should fear, is the one that resides between your ears.................
-
Ahhhhhhhh! That was refreshing.................

Certainly a sucsessful hunt!!! Nice to see our tax dollars put to good use. Unfortunitly, history dictates that the crap will contiue on, regardless! The good news.....we have the biggest and baddest toys! Just gotta love being an American!!! Whooraw!

Thanks for the clarification! I came pretty close though, considering I have CRS (Can't remember sh_ _). Just one of those old guy things....hell, I feel good that I came that close, and I have the book.....just haven't looked at it in over four years!
Tom

I agree on this choice....especially considering the price compared to the other alternatives. Very strong carrier assembly. I love mine anyway! The folks at Precision Gear are very nice and very helpful. These units are made for the 12mm ring gear bolts but, the 10mm bolt ring gears will work just fine on these units....talk to the guys at Precision gear about this issue!
you can always try a power-brute....LOM59-12
R200 W/12MM BOLTS

You want to use the fork and T/O brg collar that came on the ZX 5 spd.

Basically an injector sprays every two revolutions of the crank, for a given cylinder on four stoke engines.

Zfreak' date='
Where did you get the nismo lsd, by anychance do you have a part #
Thanks[/quote']
Alot of guys avoid the high price and availability issues of the NISMO LSD units and purchase LSD from Precision Gear. They are just under $500 and are just as strong. Check out Precision Gears website. The LSD carriers will be for R200....no R180 units.

If I remember correctly, the weakest point in the early Z chassis is dirtectly in front of the rear wheel wells. A good four point rollber, with the main hoop securely attached to the beefy portion of the chassis just behind the seat wells and the back stays tied to the rear strut towers will certainly tighten up the chassis. Strut cross bars add some degree of stiffness too. Of course a nice cage with supports running forward to the front strut towers and down to the area where the front sway bar attaches will be even better. Just some food for thought!

Hey Brian, There is a book, written by Wick Humble (RESTORING YOU DATSUN Z) that covers all that you are interested in. I may not have the title worded correctly but, its very similar. I purchased mine from Motorsports Auto. You might give it a go!

I alternate 44 hours one week, 36 hours the next. Every other Friday off. Maybe 6-10 hours a week playing poker.
Sounds like you work in Civil Service!!? I do, and love the work schedule. Allows me to really enjoy my personal life.

crisdeanb, You might want to read Terry Oxendale's write-up on brake upgrades. Pretty easy to do and with all Nissan parts. You can likely find his write-up in the archives, either here or at Classic Zcar Club's site. Just my 2 cents!
