Man, I'm starting to sweat just looking at the pic.......looks like heavy humidity to me! Hey, I quess its good for performance....good desity altitude you know!
-
Nice pic! You gotta admitt, its pretty hard to beat the looks of the original Z. Certainly looks like turn 6, as you head toward turn 7 and head uphill. You can see the old section of the track in the backround.

"Magnetic Cyclonification"
Sounds like a very violent enema.
John, are you revealing a side of yourself we don't need to know about? Just kinding you buddy! Still......what a great and sick comment!

And how many rotations per 1 rotation of the pulley. My guess would be 1:1' date=' the vortech s/c have a 5:1 and there bearings are made to handle the addition sideward load of a pulley.
I give that thing 400 miles before it craps out.[/quote']
Judging from the photo of the unit, it looks to be about 2:1 ratio. One rotation of the alternator to two revolutions of the SC. At this ratio the SC boost is likely around (and I'm quessing here) 5 pounds at best. I'll be a bit more optimistic and say 4000 miles til you need some R&R. Clever installation if you ignore the extra load on the alternator bearings. They could have addessed this issue by adding an additional bearing (that will handle the load) installed in the mounting bracket. Oh well!!!
-
Just another supercharger! The question I would be asking is, are the bearings on the alternator capable of handling the additional load of the supercharger? My quess is.....not for long!

Isn't it ironic how these wonder product companies can't and don't provide any scientific evidence that verify their product actually does anything! Here's an interesting thought.....what type of engine just recently won overall at Sebering....an Audi diesel. Did you see any black exhaust smoke....no! Was there performance.....yes! Did they use a magnet on their fuel lines.......no!!!

is the glock 18 [the full auto model'] legal in the us?
IIRC, no full auto firearm is legal in the USA....unless you acquire a special permit/licence. As most compident shooters will tell you....a full auto firearm is best suited for only waisting ammo.....unless of course you just need to hose down your driveway!

Personally, I praise the leadership of this forum for refraining from/baning strings that could easily turn political in nature or debate. It was a problem for me, and if I had to list the number one improvement to this site, it was the recognition that this needed to be done. These types of strings cause dissention in the ranks, and many times negated the rich positive aspects of why this site is so well respected. Though we have many opinions about what should/could be done to modify the infamous Z, we should leave it to that subject (as well as some of the more humorous topics) and remain solidified in promoting the hybrid cause. There are many members of this sight that I consider close friends (even though I've never met them face to face) based solely on the love of the Z car. I do not want to taint those relationships with contentious debate about something so personal to me, yet so insignificant to the enjoyment of this site.
Wow Terry.......that was put very well and I concur.

Have you called your local Chevy dealer?

Can someone explain to me the importance of measuring vacuum at idle? I've seen posts on the subject and the idea of why you'd do it for any reason other than to make sure the vacuum booster would work eludes me.
BTW Cruez' date=' sounds good to me![/quote']
Additionally, and this doesn't apply to you Jon, lower than stock vaccum will effect the folks that still have a vaccum advance distributor. I thought you might get a good laugh out of this one Jon!

Yea, it would be sweet.....until you gazed at the balance of your bank account! Still pretty hard to beat the cost and performance of a good old SBC.

Well, I took the rear anti-roll bar off and went for a drive on some of the roads I'm familiar with and frequent when looking to have a bit-O-fun. The results......I like it!!! The rear stays planted better for sure and I did not notice any big difference in front end understeer. I can certainly get back on the gas much sooner and harder, coming out of tight corners, than with the 19mm rear bar in place. Remember, this is just a street car, intended for spirited driving on tight twisty back roads. Thanks for everyones input on this subject matter.

Maybe I'm wrong but, doesn't the video clip sound like a V12? Seems that most of the exotic sounding Italian cars are V12s!
-
I kinda thought thats what you were trying to get across Jon....I just didn't want someone to think that changing to solid bushings would make the rear cross bar stronger. I was thinking......Jon is loosing it! You know how some will believe just about anything they read.

The master-vac is rebuildable however, it can become a safety issue trying to disassemble the unit without the correct tool and a good solid bench mounted vise. Basically, there is a big strong spring that lives inside with the diaphram so be fore warned. Kits are available and cost less than a new unit.
-
Interesting statement Jon! How would a different bushing material effect the strength of the bar? I believe a stiffer bushing will result in a tighter set-up but I don't believe it will make the bar stronger!
-
I concur with Jon! The 81 tranny with 3.90 gears are a good match for regular driving. I believe this combination came stock on a N/A manual shift ZX. I ran this set-up in my 240 and 5th gear is a perfect freeway gear. I have however, gone to a 4.10 gearing. Much more fun to drive and 5th gear is still just fine on the freeway....just a couple hundred rpm higher.

I regularly take one of my Z's up Angeles Crest for Breakfast on Sundays.
Bunch of us meet at the Shell station at Angeles Crest and the 210 at 7:30am if you can get up that early. Next run on 7th of May. Nothing dangerous' date=' but lots of fun.

Look out the the PRO ITALIA group riding the hill....they are likely to be riding on a Ducati, Moto Guzzi, Lavertta, Aprilla, etc., etc. I used to ride regularly with this group....years ago. The Crest Hwy is certainly a great stretch of black-top!

so whay your saying is, that you want to put more air over the car to provide down force. and you want as smooth as possible and less air going under the car? couldnt you direct the air from the air dam through the radiator and back down into the tranny tunnel??
You might be getting this backwards. The point is to minimise the airflow under the car.....by keeping the airflow under the car to a minimum, you effectively minimise the airfoil effect of the car's boby which creates the lift. To better understand the concept, you may want to read about the basics of lift for airfoils (aircraft wings).

If anyone is interested in what a red Z looks like with similar wheels....visit the pic gallery and select 2126. These wheels are manufactured by Aldtstat and are 17" x 8" front, 17" x 9" rear. Wheel offset is 35mm....I did fabricate spacers for both front and rear to get the tire/wheels sitting in the wheel well. Tod's Z is certainly an outstanding car....along with his matching 510.

Pete, believe me...I feel your pain!!!! NO FUN! Yah, once you reach 40 yrs your warranty runs out. My warranty expired 15 years ago! If I may suggest, once you are back on your feet put yourself on some type of exercise program in addition to a health diet. I know what you are going through...there was a time when all I could do was ly flat on my back, period! I had those shoot pain down my legs and even on top of my feet as well as some paralisis in my right leg. Any movement brought on some really fun pain! The good news is, I'm back riding my mountain bikes and dirt bike with no ill effects. (I didn't go through surgery) There's just certain things I just don't do any more. Just thank goodness the medical industry is as well equipped as it is today! Best of luck Pete.... we're all pulling for you.

Lets see, the owner/builder is from Texas.....Texas has lot-O-sun........Hmmmmmmmmm!? I think the guy just has a bad case of sun stroke. I've heard it can cause you to become delusive!
P.S. I'm not picking on all Texans....just this one!!!

A novel idea for sure and likely fun to play with but, priced at a sale price of $225.00.....you got to be kinding!!! Shoot, the refill is only $25.00.....so where is the other $200.00 in parts? Certainly not in what is pictured!
HELP! I need 240z stub axels...

Congratulations on completing Backyard Mechanics 101. Look at the bright side......you won't do that again. With a little heat the bearing and alotta cold on the stub axle, the bearing would have fallen off with just a little tap on the end of the stub axle. Sounds easy but timing is critical.
