  1. If you guys are really interested in which head model is best for a particular application, you may consider giving Dave Rebello a call up in northern California. He is a prominent engine builder with tons of expirience with the L6 engine. You can get his ph# by visiting his website "REBELLO RACING"

  2. Ok then how much can I lower a 240z car with out doing the sections?

Or same question but phrased in a different way' date=' What is the minimum available strut travel distance needed for street use?

This is not a race car..... nor is it a daily driver. I just want to lower the ride height a bit. Thanks!

    Brian[/quote']

Brian, If you are only lowering your Z a little, you should be fine without any mods other than the lowering springs themselves. Basically what's going on is, think about the position of the piston inside the damper. Ideally and likely stock positioning places the damper piston approximately mid travel in the damper. So, if one lowers thier Z by, let's say 2", without sectioning the strut, the piston location in the damper will be 2" into bump (compression) just sitting still, leaving a very small amount of useable bump travel. Are you begining to see what going on? Hope this helps.

  3. Well according to basic laws of geometry....if you have a triangle and all sides are a fixed length' date=' the only way for the assymbly to move back(have the angles change) would be to have a side change length, so to tweak the mount the LCA would have to bend.

just my 2 cents somebody correct me if im wrong[/quote']

You are correct in what you posted, but again, the point I'm making is......IF THERE IS PLAY (TOLERANCE) AT THE LCA TO TC ROD CONNECTION YOU ARE ASKING FOR HANDLING ISSUES AND IT WOULD NO LONGER BE A FIXED LENGHT AS THE TOLERANCE ALLOWS ONE LEG OF THE TRIANGLE TO CHANGE, EVEN THOUGH IT MAY ONLY CHANGE BY MAYBE .032". Think about how that slop would feel at speed and under braking. If you recall on the stock TC rod to LCA attachment, there is zero tolerance....hummmmmmmmm!

  4. FWIW, there is merit to letting a suspension component break/bend to prevent damaging the frame on a race car. I would personally rather replace a TC rod or LCA than do frame repair.

Jamie, you certainly have a point and from all indications, a vast majority of chassis are now designed to do so. However, what I'm pointing out has mainly to do with the plain and simple correct operation of the modification at the LCA to TC rod attachment. If the the attach point has tolerance and can move about, then it has failed to achieve a design intended not to move in tension and compression. Imagine hauling her down from over 100 mph and having the front end the car darting from side to side because the TC rods are not securing the entire strut assembly from moving for and aft.

  5. *sigh*

Tim240z - man help me out here to get a job working where you work so I can finally have weekends off and be able to attend a damn MSA show for once!!!! Seriously... I'm gonna miss another MSA show... in 7 years of Z ownership I've never gone once :( really sucks.

For that matter' date=' I keep missing Tim's barbeque's as well.

what've I done wrong in life that I can never get weekends off :([/quote']

There is a such thing as calling in sick!!!

  6. So let me get this straight...

We were attacked' date=' and enacted some laws that would target those we were about 99.5% sure were bad guys or their supporters, and it worked by and large?

Gee, this can't be right, so by all means lets STOP IT NOW!

I'm in no mood for political debate... Send to hell all those opposed to the US of A! That's right, double taps to the foreheads...

    Mike ( WHo has had a very $HITTY Day!)[/quote']

Love it or leave it.....!!! Hey Mike, I always contend that having a bad day now and then certainly makes one appreciate the good days! I hear you though, bad days SUCK!!!

  7. i just picked up a maxima n47 at the salvage yard. I see that it has round exhaust ports. i was told that a header for square ports will fit, but i dont know how well that works for performance. is there a round port header that will fit and not have any clearance problems in my 260z?

I don't want to rain on your parade, but if you are looking for performance you may consider a differnt head. IIRC the N47 has the metal shrouds inside the exhaust ports and is, I think, the only L6 head with round ports. An N42, E88 will likey yield better performance....depending on your engine set-up. At least you will have something better to work with if future mods (porting)are planned.

  8. I'm attending again this year, but only as a spectator....I want to spend more time talking to people about their cars instead of hanging around my car and talking about it. As far as a possible little get together of Hybridz folks before the show.....great idea! After attending a B-B-Q at Tim's home, I have to say......had a really nice time, good eats, and especially nice folks with an interest (fringin passion) in Z cars. I'll for sure be wearing my Hybridz T-shirt at the show Sunday.

  9. Well, you don't want to remove the top portion of the strut, because you won't have any threads to screw the retaining nut back into...unless of course you plan to cut new threads. Also, I'm assuming you are not installing coil-overs! If my assumption is correct, do you plan to also lower the bottom spring perch since you plan to remove 2" of the strut? One additional note...this is an important structural part so have it welded by a certified welder or someone who really knows what they're doing....a strut failure wouldn't be much fun.

  10. I am looking to buy a paint ball marker for my 17 yr. old son Can anyone reccomend any paintball gun...around $200 price range. Seems like the Tipmann A-5 is the best buy so far...havent looked at the Trilogy composition or auto cocker trilogy ..or Black dragon yet..

Any ideas or personal experiance would be appreciated.

    Len

After you purchase the paint-ball gun set-up, you may want to consider a trip to Wisconson for some target pratice on the feral cats!!!

  11. It all seems so stupid (typical politician mentality) to even think about the 30+ year old cars! You have to ask yourself...what's the total percentage of old cars on the road now days? Not very many. And alot of them are owned by car folks like us who likely keep them in sufficient tune, so polution is minimal. And when was the last time you saw an officer of the law pull over an old clunker that smoking to high heaven to get them off the road? Now lets look at all those BIG RIGS spewing out all that black crap.....gee, I wonder what that percentage is compared to the old cars? I think you all know what I'm talking about. Baastard525 hit the nail on the head! It's about the money and I might add, their personal agendas. It's about as rediculuous as trying to impose gun control laws. Got me all fired up....I'll stop now!

  12. How about importing herds of hungry wild hyenas......a cats worst nightmare. yeh, that it, hyenas!!! Here's a bizar idea....fill balls (paint-ball balls) with dog urine and blast the cats with them....would make their lives miserable. Can you imagine a cat trying to run away from itself. Just some creative thinking outside the box.

  13. You say it was stored in a climate controlled building! From the looks of the 460's external condition, it was the WRONG climate and after the fact that it sat out in the weather for 15 years before being placed in the climate controlled building! I'd say if you are getting both for under $100.00....go for it. Otherwise I think you will be buying someones old problems. Don't let your emossion regulate your purchase. These old 460's with carbs typically get 12 mpg at best, and weigh a ton. Like they say....live and learn! Good luck!

  14. Pretty sad and very funny at the same time! On the video clip you can hear one of his buddies say...."go twice as fast this time". Yea right!!! I quess this is one way to help keep the gene pool in check!!? A shear case of someone's ego being greater than their brain.

  15. I suppose one could install a variable resistor (reostat) in the circuit and with a full tank of fuel, adjust the resistor until the gauge reads full. Basically the sending unit in the fuel cell is also a variable resistor with a float attached to it and as the fuel level changes, so does the position of the sending unit reostat.....hence varying the voltage to the gauge. I also think that adjusting the bend in the sending unit float arm you could achieve the same results. Hope this help some. Maybe someone else will chime in and add to this info.

  16. Jayz, wheel spec questions are as old as dirt. Here is a simple way to figure out what spacing you need. 1st - with your existing tires/wheels in place, measure how much clearance you have (inside & outside) regarding the wheel to body/chassis. 2nd - figure out the offset of the wheel. 3rd - make an accurite sketch of the wheel and then the clearances you have measured from the wheel to body/chassis. 4th - overlay a sketch of the size wheel you want on the sketch of your existing wheel so it is centered properly between the inside of the chassis and the inside of the outer fender. 5th -When you are satisfied with the new wheel placement, calculate the offset of the new wheel by using the location of your existing wheel's mounting flange. This will give you the necessary offset for your custom wheels withoput using any spacers. Note: Generally speaking, when going to a wheel wider than 8" on the back, you will need to install coilovers to provide for the additional clearance. I have 17"x 9" wheels (with 235-40 x 17 tires)on the rear of my 240 and I don't think I could go with a wider wheel without altering the fender lip. My rear tire/wheel setup does not extend beyond the stock fender lip and does not rub any under bump. Hope this helps you figure out the wheels you plan to have made...good luck Jayz!
