Bart's right. The Q45 diff is an R200VLSD unit. The V stands for the Viscous type limited slip unit, a bit different from the 87-89 1st gen 300ZX LSDs. The 2nd Gen 300ZX came with the R230 which is sizably lager and shown in pics Jamie and Took, found here: http://photos.yahoo.com/dat74z Look in some of the various Zcar folders for pics of the comparisons. Having recently left an income close to that John walked away from, I know the sting of this... I've come close to throwing in the towel in the 4 months our company has been operating, and just going back to work for someone else... I've cut my income by 2/3rds and anything I buy right now has to be traded in something I sell to get it... First time in about a decade where I didn't have discretionary income. Price to pay for being your own boss, I suppose. Some day, John, the gods will smile down on both of us and we'll be on the same track with cool cars... And then you can show me just how pathetic I drive. That's better than stalling a 997 in traffic any day of the week! Mike

Actually we're thinking about just shutting down the site all together... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Just kidding. Mike -
I've been avoiding having surgery on my right knee for almost a decade now. I have some soft tissue and bone chip damage to the right knee and have had to use therapy, meds, and joint repair meds (Over the counter stuff) to keep the knee usable. I don't race bicycles anymore, so that helps. But I can't squat on my right knee for more than 30 seconds before I start "feeling" it. I've talked to a lot of people and gone to several doctors about knee surgery and the message has always been mixed... It works for some with zero side effect, and not for others... Likely cause by the person on the business end of the scalpel, don't know, but so long as I pay attention to my body and don't let it get to the point of constant pain, I'm ok. Mike

Evan, What they said... You can pop that rear hatch interior panel off. Just be careful not to damage it, because it is pressed cardboard with vinyl over it. They tear easily. Once you're past that panel, you can use a screwdriver to release the catch or just pull the whole assembly out after pulling the spring clip with plyers or a screwdriver. Mike

This thread is officially a sticky, since there is some very useful R200/230 info inside. Mike

Concealed knives are clasified by blade length, and blade length varies from state to state. As to how the knife is clipped to your pants pocket with the bocy of the knife inside the pocket, I'm guessing you could probably argue to a judge (Maybe successfully) that it wasn't concealed, however, the issue shouldn't come up if the blade of the knife is less than the required legal defenition. Most of the mid to smaller pocket knives (think 1-3 inch blade here) aren't considered concealed weapons in most states, but check your state for a complete description. Some folks don't realize, but a baseball bat or other "stick" hidden behind the seat can be classified as a deadly weapon, and if perceived to be hidden (Say by a coat or other stuff), can also get you arrested. 240Z 5 Lug Conversion? Anyone?

Sounds a bit overpriced for what you're getting. BTW, You won't likely use that transmission. Mike

BJ, I was told by Mitch at Piper motorsports that they just buy them pre-fabb'ed in large sheets. You could probably find them at one of the many race car fabrication shops online. I love mine. Makes the whole application look trick as heck! Mike

Trace the two wires from the brake switch back to the column switch. I bet one of those is suspect OR the big ground wire on the column switch has an issue. Mike
-
Not to mention the gearing in the T56 aren't optimal for road racing, and the 6th gear won't be usable below 1300RPMs or higher in a lower torque application. Mike

...And I strongly believe GnoseZ is Correct on those three recommendations! Mike

OH God.... Pop, You hit a homerun there! Mike

You can also check the painless wiring sticky at the top of the Misc. Tech section. It highlights a lot of the wires in the wiper/headlight/turnsignal and ignition switch. Mike

Son, you've got a lot to learn. When you are off base, you're a civillian and ALL laws apply. When you're on base, it is ten fold WORSE. My advice to you is to leave everying you own with your dad until you've finished basic and have transfered to your first permanent assignment and then gotten guidance from your CO on your gun/ property issues. You're gonna find out that those weapons will likely have to stay with relatives until all the paperwork is complete. Because those weapons are pre-ban, I believe the pre-ban status stays with the individual they were registered to before the ban. The "pre-ban" protection doesn't transfer. I used to have an FFL license for dealing guns, have been a Federal Police officer AND a Federal Government Employee. I can tell you that none of this matters when a cop pulls you over. Then, you're just a suspect. Mike

Also, Keep in mind that the T56 tranny is VERY heavy. It will add a minimum of 60-70pounds to the chassis, once the clutch/flywheel weight increase is factored in. Mike

Michael, You fit the description of a man running around with a rifle. They were within their rights to detain and otherwise search you for the weapon. However, anything else they found would have been dismissed as fruits of the forbidden tree if you hadn't given them the permission to search. NEVER grant them permission to search. If they search anyway, because they feel they had probable cause, let the judge and grand jury sort it out. But never give permission... EVER. You give up your RIGHTS. That is a no no, and I know of NO police officers who would give up THEIR rights for anything. You did the correct thing in being calm, and obeying their orders. Unfortunately, when there is report of a suspect with a handgun acting suspisciously, the leo's look at it two fold: If they don't investigate it thoroughly and the individual then goes on to kill 10 people in a mass slaughter, the cops get hammered in the press for not doing their jobs. They do a thorough search of everyone fitting the description and then because they have scared the living hell out of someone like yourself, they get hammered. I'm BIG on public rights against abusive law enforcement, and if you felt your rights were violated, or that they did something improper, you should always get the officer's badge # and report them. I've been involved with reporting bad behavior of cops in the past, and I've never had retaliation from them. Hammer them hard when they step across the line. They certainly do us. Mike

Questions for members w/ adj. LCA's
Mikelly replied to BWRex's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Dan, In my opinion, you can't do one without doing the other. Adjustable control arms must be used with adjustable TC Rods, in order to get the full potential of proper adjustment. Mike -
I have a CC permit and this is my little friend: http://www.glock.com/g27.htm Better than my American Express. I don't leave home without it. Mike

Meh, just leave the cap gun at home... And focus on your future. Couldn't resist! Mike
