  1. Sit? forget it, I'm walking with them, and I'll go butt naked with a beer too!
  2. I just did the carpet thing and I must say that the place I got it from did not do the cutouts right and most were missing. I'm still hacking the carpet to get it to fit right. PM me if your intrested in the company I got it from. Do some calling before buying and find out about all the cutouts, like seatbelts, the drivers side foot rest, under the dash, the seat reliefs, the correct length of the carpt at the doors etc... Dale
  3. Wow, 200 bucks is cheap! Hell the paint on my last car cost over 600 easy! With all that saved money does this mean you can afford the brake booster!
  4. WRX, humm. I dont like the looks of it. Just like some little honda or something. It has a little power, but the looks don't do it justice. I can't wait for the factory to put a real hemi (426) in the caravan. Baby boomer delight. Dale
  5. Brake Boosters are like 80 bucks at Autozone. Sounds Cheap to me.
  6. Yea, I bought a 89 R200 clutch type on ebay a while back for 425 and 75 shipping. Looks to be in great condition, although I have not pulled the cover yet. It might sit for a while as I'll get the LS1 in first and work the bugs out of it before I do the rear. No shafts. I'll just go with the Spice U-joints like Phantom is doing on his 280. Dale
  7. Yea, I've decided to sell the S&P harness instead of butchering it and go with a custom cable. Those guys do great work so I'll not try to re-invent the LS1 harness. I'll make some spare relay boards, no problem. I dont have a time frame for finishing it, and I was planning on doing it sometime during the summer. If your willing to wait, I'll be glad to make them. I have a good source for sockets and relays and had to make a minimum buy. I'll figure up my cost for them and pass it on (they were cheap). Dale
  8. Hello all, Would someone who has done the LS1 conversion please take a look at this and tell me if I have my facts straight on having a harness made for my conversion. Below is a proposed letter to the supplier I have chosen. Please hack away or tell me if you think I'm correct, or if I have forgotten something. Thanks for your time, Dale Speartech ( http://www.speartech.com ) Hello John, Ok, I am ready to order a harness. The swap will be putting a 1999 LS1/T56 from a firebird into a 1978 Datsun 280Z. No emissions equipment will be used. I will be putting the ECM inside on the passenger side around the area of the heater blower. I believe the stock length on the connectors is enough, but If you can add 6†it wouldn’t hurt. Also I am going to be running long tube headers so the pre-cat O2 sensor wires need to be long enough to reach. I plan on putting the diagnostic connector under the dash close to the driver side and that connector I assume will be coming straight from the computer connector and over so about 20†to 24†should be enough on that. I will be using a 2 speed fan from a ford Taurus. If I need to run a sensor to the radiator and keep it separate from the computer then that’s ok.. I will also be running A/C. The compressor will be mounted high on the drivers side. The alternator will remain in the stock low position. I would also like a reverse lockout function. I will be running all AutoMeter gauges (electric speedo, tach, oil pressure, water temp, fuel level, etc…). I have LS1 edit so I will disable the VATS, turn off the cats, etc… on my own (famous last words). I also have EFI live FWIW. The kit I am using to mount the LS1 is from Johns Cars http://www.brokenkitty.com/zcar/zcar.htm and for what it’s worth I have found these folks to be very helpful. I am putting together a relay center for the car. I am planning on using a relay for the fuel pump (40A), the headlights 2x(30A), The Taurus Fan 2x(70A), and anything else that need one. The relays will be mounted on a circuit board ( I make circuit boards for a living http://www.innovative-circuits.com I’m the chief engineer) and can fit as many as needed. Please let me know if there will be any extra charges for this custom cable. Dale Lovell
  9. Hope no water ever gets under it, it might take a long time to dry. I think the asphault stuff that melts and seals would be a better choice. Dale
  10. Thats not an LT1. It's just a regular TPI. LT1 has a rectangular intake and runs stright into the cylinders. TPI is old hat and runs out of air a 4500 and above. My advice is to leave the TPI alone. The TH350 is old hat too and without an overdrive you'll be listening to the engine sing at 3000 rpm on the freeway. Find a deal with an OD tranny and you'll be much happier with it. Dale
  11. Very nice. How long did it take to get the engine and all the accessories out of there? Just curious as I will have to do the same soon. Dale
  12. I feel your pain. I've been hit this year also by an idiot that just wasnt watching where he was going. There is no place you can go to get away from it unfortunatly. Just insure the snot out of anything you drive on the street, and try to stay away from everybody. After driving for 35 years and been hit 10 times, I have come to the conclusion that everybody is out to get me.
  13. I think Tommy was murdered a few years back. When I was a kid I built the model "Showboat" with the 4 455 CI Olds engines on it. It was cool! Dale

  16. It's ok, but I think it's too low. I personally like the tires to be cenetered in the wheel wells. The wheels are great!. Dale

    The Daily Poll

I like Polls ok, but I'm Scottish. And if it's not Scottish it's Crap! I really could care less about everyone elses opinions. Wont find me there.
  18. Those look great. I bought the powder coating kit from edmunds and have used it quite a bit. I have access to a big walk in 500 degree oven there so it makes coating easy. Although prep is always a huge pain. Hey I really like the car, nice job! Dale
  19. Well they are on the market now. Here's a thread about an LS1 with a 224 cam, fast intake, 90mm TB, headers and AFR 205cc heads. The car put down 480 RWHP and 435 LBS. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=183782 Dale

    Muffler of choice?

Here's the clip I promised. It's an LS1 of course with true duals, X pipe and Borla XR-1 mufflers. I suggest downloading this to watch it. It's about 10 meg. Maybe it's the Pacific Ocean that makes it sound so good! http://www.angelfire.com/ult/insaynez/videos/TD_Borla.wmv Dale

    Muffler of choice?

Bullet mufflers make a V8 sound like a pickup truck. Personally I like a true dual X pipe with Borla XR-1 mufflers. Sounds mean. But kills alot of the rasp. There is a WMV file of one from Hawaii over on LS1Tech.com. I'll try to post the link tonight. Dale
  23. Now if he had a brain he would have offset the cranks by 30 degrees and kept the plugs firing at 60 degree intervals instead of 120 degrees and made one smooth running son of a gun.
