  1. That turbo is a nice match to that motor. The install looks great, too. That car will rock!
  2. Yeah, support for SR in the states is getting better everyday... but you can't just run down to the dealer and order most parts for the motor. Aftermarket stuff is very easy to get now... and major companies are starting to support it because the 240sx is trendy now. (and so is swapping in the SR20DET) I'll be putting my SR in the Z... I can't wait.
  3. I didn't use my wipers much at all before we started getting all this rain in the past few days. Mine are running perfectly fine! Seriously. I read the thread about everyone complaining they were super slow... mine seem fine. They did seem slower before, but I thought it was from lack of usage? (It doesn't rain much here)
  4. I say go with whatever you prefer. You seem to want to VG, so do that. Otherwise, you may regret it later. However, an SR20DET is very capable of 350hp with a MAF, Injectors, Turbo, and tuned computer. The VG will make this without any of that I'm pretty sure. Power will be cheaper in the short run with the VG.
  5. And my interior dome light turns on now!! Unbelievable... I was getting into the car last night. I opened my door... and to my suprise, I could see inside the car! Oh man I'm loving this. It's saving me having to track down little electrical gremlins in the car.
  6. I'm sure I used to see smooth round covers... now I can only find the other type. Nobody else has seen these?
  7. I'm just trying to help him make one that looks like the picture. You can use whatever material you like.
  8. Nice.... I'm looking to buy a house right now. Once I own my own place... the garage is my domain. (the wife and I have discussed this extensively already) I live in a condo right now with a carport. I'm not even allowed to put my car on a jack for any reason whatsoever. I guess if I have a flat, I must have the car towed out to repair it. I've seen people eyeball me pretty hard when I have the hood popped and I'm doing minor wiring or something. Its crazy...
  9. I don't think its his car, its what he wants his to look like. (don't we all)
  10. It seems that all I can find for sale these days are headlight covers that match the line of the hood around the front. What happened to the smooth round ones more like the Toyota 2000gt style? I'd love to hear opinions on which you guys prefer as well.
  11. Download Adobe Photoshop CS. It's available on any file sharing program.
  12. Looks great. Just looking at the lights, I had no idea what they were... but when they're on the car, I can see camaro all the way. The lines are close, so it looks the same.
  13. I have a link for you to read from someone who did side-by-side comparison of the output SR and KA output shafts. His picture links are now dead, and I'm trying to get ahold of them to show you. Read the thread, you will see its coming from a guy ran 10.5 in the 1/4 mile with a 550hp SR20DET in an RX7 FD3S. He's very credible, no reason to BS anyone. http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB9&Number=67639706&Forum=All_Forums&Words=tnt&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=67639594&Search=true#Post67639706 He states about halfway down that the KA output shaft is skinny before the splines, and the SR output is the same thickness all the way down. The SR output shaft will twist on the splines and break (I've done this and seen it done several times with 300-400hp) and the KA output shaft will snap before the splines where it is skinnier, and therefore WEAKER. I'm not BS'ing anyone here. I'm relaying fact. I've been building fast SR's for several years now.
  14. The strut tower piece should be relatively easy. The problem is the cross-bar. The tower mounts are usually steel. The cross bar should be aluminum (like everyone I've ever seen) You don't need a fancy cross bar... you could do it with any properly sized aluminum pipe with a thick wall. You can bend the stuff into shape pretty easily. Seeing that pic of the gold engine bay makes me want to go set fire to my car in the parking lot. Thats absolutely beautiful.
  15. Hmm... thats peculiar. Those things ride nice, though, ha? I got to drive a Soarer 1JZ-gte in Japan when I lived there. My buddy's wife's ride. It was sweet.
  16. I didn't realize my 240z's fusebox was causing me problems... I saw the melted spot and considered repairing it... then I spotted the Motorsport Auto 240z fusebox with blade type fuses and an actual circuit board instead of a hunk of plastic with metal tabs riveted to it... The price was a little high, but seemed worth it in potential benefits. (and safety) I put it in yesterday, and to my suprise... my Tach started working! My blinkers are also more consistent now... so I assume they are seeing more current than they were. Now I want to go through and replace all the main power and ground lines to improve it a little more. Well worth it, in my opinion.
  17. If you use the power locks and the relay wiring becomes difficult, you could probably just get a SPAL door lock relay kit. Or buy their universal kit and use the stock 280zx actuators if you can. Its not hard to do custom door locks... and they only cost $20-40 on Ebay. The SPAL kit is nice.
  18. Wow, you stuck some mean tires pretty close together on that one. I wish I had that fabrication ability. Once I learned how to weld and have my own garage to work in, maybe... For now I have to do the cutting and pay someone to do the welding. I'd like to do something along the lines of your setup, but leave the read end a little wider and flare it out. I'm just weary of narrow cars that pick up the front tires.... seen one flip over at carlsbad a couple months back.
  19. Any chance it was Modern Motorsports? They only charge $75 for the brackets.
  20. Oh, ok. I have no AC whatsoever... I might try it and monitor the system to make sure the volts are still pumping out ok without loss. My crank fan contacted the shroud the other day.... what a wonderful sound that was
  21. heh heh... you made me laugh with that last comment. The electrical system in this car is crapola. That is a nice idea to swap alternators now and get started on electrical upgrades before the big engine swap... however, I don't want to pay for an alternator I'm not going to use later. Anyone got one I can borrow? Just kidding.
  22. I have a nice set of electric fans I want to put on the car.. but its using the original alternator system with the 45amp (I think) alternator. The alternator is new and was bench tested recently. It works great. However... I'm afraid that running big electric fans in conjunction with my stereo, headlights, gauges, etc... will be a strain on the alternator. This setup is only temporary, as the SR20 will go in with its ~85amp alternator eventually. I just don't want to toast the alternator and end up stuck on the way to work because of electric fans. Anyone have anything to say on this?
