  1. hahaha, i was wondering if i would have this effect on people. if you want to know something mike just ask away
  2. One more thing, you cant go past the wide aftermarket support for an RB over here, where as the only thing i could buy for a L28 performance wise was a 2nd hand cam.
  3. I am located in Australia. so the price of building an L28et would have cost me more than the RB. I could not find any parts over here, would have needed custom pistons, intake + exhaust manifolds, probly a new cam, then a full rebuild as well including new bearings, bore + hone, slight head work. this could of become very costly. My mate has build one for more money than my RB and we will be making similar power. Besides, i am planning on performing the 2.4L stroking process to it someday, so it wont be too bad, with the stroker kit the internals are rated to about 650hp.
  4. I am going to be running a haltech E11 ECU, in the factory location. As for the guages, that stock speedo cable slots straight in so that should be fine. Fuel gauge is a given, i will probly be useing the 3 center dash gauges to hold a boost gauge, oil temp and oil pressure, using autometer gauges. Water temp and tacho will be inline with the stock gauges and auto meter also. Unless, does anybody know if our tachos use a pulse signal for their reading, if so i could use one of the outputs of the haltech to trigger the tacho.
  5. yeah, that is the 25, mine is just the 20. and i have removed the AC for now but will be putting it back on for summer, it gets damn hot here. I cant lag on it cos i have to get it on the road for a 4000mile road trip in 1 month. so it has to get done, i am hopeing 2 weeks from now.
  6. more pics to come as i progress
  7. This car is just for my daily driver. not going to be competing in auto-x or anything like that. thanks for the reminder about our own album, here are the pics: engine left mount g'box mount shifter location

  11. I dont have anywhere to host the pics. if someone has an e-mail i can send them too please let me know The gearbox mount is from an auto 280zx, the manual didnt quite have the right offset.
  12. Hey, i have just completed bolting in my RB20DET into my 1981 280ZX NO MODIFICATOIN WSA REQUIRED!!!!!!!!! I used stock skyline mounts and instualtors and just slotted the holes on the 280. Stock gearbox mount was used. even the driveshaft slides straight in. If anyone has a question please ask away.
  13. ahh the classic "while your at it" case, this is one to be wary of, i am suffering greatly in my current swap, all i can say is that your figure may sweel a little bit, but it is one of the most accurate guesses i have seen in a while.
  14. I am in the same boat, but i have my 200ZR sump and oil pickup.
  15. seeing as you are located in sydney give SSS Automotives a bell, they have a good variety of stock.
  16. hey guys, I have decided to forget the L series motor in favour of a RB25DE swap. Thanks for all your help as my mate is actually building a turbo L6 and has used all this info. Thanks again, - Chris
  17. Use the SEARCH function. countless options have been covered on this website. just go for a look around, and once you have narrowed to down to a few, give a budget, look at what you want the car for and take it from there.
  18. Hey all, I just thought i would chime in and let everybody know that i am curently gathering parts to swap a RB25DE into my 1981 280zx. My R33 half-cut should be arriving next week, and then it is off to my mates place who can cut and change the sump and make my mounts, I should be able to get diagrams of the mounts i use. Please note that i am in Australia so I have a RHD. Many photos will be taken and i will do my best attempt at a write up. Hoping to hit the streets about 2 months after i start. (wish me luck)
  19. haha yer your probly right, too bad we only get our octane ratings in RON, so it is hard to compare the two, BTW our RON is 98 for premium

  21. Yes i am running EFI, i dont know how our aussie fuel comapres to yours so i might just be able to get away with just a FPR and stock timing. I will be getting it dynoed before and after at the same place to see the difference and how it is running so i could probly tune it all there to eliminate detonation.
  22. Thanks for all the replys guys. I am going to be running a mildly ported N42 head and the exhaust i cant decide to go for a 2.25 or 2.5" mandrel system. So bastaad525, do you recommend that i get an adjustable fuel pressure regualtor too?
