Saleen wheels and adapters
Dudeboy replied to Dudeboy's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
typo "Adapter" -
I have opportunity pick up set of 18 x9, 18 x10 Mustang Saleen wheels with a 22 and 24 mm offset positive. If I utilize a 1.75 inch 4 to 5 lug adatpter which equals 44 mm (negative)- Would this now equal to -20 and -22 offset once the wheels are installed on my Z ???? Thanks

GoodGuyGary, You can try these guys http://www.dandos.com/Nissan/DatsunZ.html I have heard they do pretty good work, and what they do not handle they send over to Rebello. Rebello builds some pretty good L6 stroker motors. If you are not doing most of the work yourself, as stated look for one with most of the conversion completed and you put your spin on the car.

Up to 400hp/torque and how you drive will direct how you maintain the Z structural integrity. Me and my Dad were considering dropping a GM ZZ430 clone in my Z (1977 280). I came to the conclusion for that amount of horsepower and the way I plan to drive(street/track) it would be too much for the unibody with just doing the minimal support mods like strut braces and a roll bar for safety (4 point). I am sourcing parts now and looking at between 300-380hp just so I do not pop windows A Chevy Vega twisted is a wild sight I can only imagine what it could do to 240-260-280. Your plan is more in depth than mine so outside of the minimim mods keep in mind how you are going to drive and the added weight and rigidity. I will know soon.

By the way Arizona Z sells the spoiler for $189 + shipping.
-
Mine was somewhat light, so I injected body foam inside the main cavity to give a solid fill. There are no stamps or marks to identify the mold maker or brand on the Arizona Z spoiler. The center section and end pieces did not have screws molded into cavity. Does yours have screws molded in?

Got to Pete Paraska's site "Alteredz" it has some of the best information for structural integrity. Mr. Paraska is a Admin and moderator of this site as well so he and a few others can point you in the right direction.

As I am sourcing parts for my project I came across the GM ZZ430 motor and the clone that some GM dealerships sell. I really considered dropping this motor in my Z and doing all the structural mods !!!.My dad drag race in the late 60's and early 70's and he and I have driven everything from Panteras to Porsche 930 Turbos from San Diego to Las Vegas,so driving skills is not and issue. After reading these posts I began to realize it is not so much how much power can the driver handle, but how much power a 25 - 30 year old unibody can take. My search for motor combinations now are more in the range of 300-380 hp, not because of a lack of driving skills, but maintaining some of the Z's structural integrity.

If you do install spoiler use e-6000 epoxy to attach spoiler and then fiberglass and mold in. Also, prep the rear hatch and fender areas with a rust proofer (por-15) and coats of primer sealer. I have seen rear hatches after these spoilers were removed and the lack of prep and sealer was not a pretty sight.

bpatrol, I bought my three piece spoiler from Arizona Z car ( They recently started selling fiberglass again). Bob Sharp racing in the mid 1970's had the spoiler on it's IMSA prepared 240z, and back then Datsun competition may have sold the spoilers retail and/or wholesale to performance distributors. A new spoiler is worth $200 -250.00, used with minor fiberglass work needed $100 - $180. Take a look at my album "Dudeboy " I installed my three piece spoiler in the summer. These spoilers and competition hood scoops are rare finds from the original molds. Glenn A. INLINER FOR NOW BOWTIE COMING SOON !!!!

How can we stop HybridZ from turning into another Zcar.com ?
Dudeboy replied to Forrest's topic in Site Support
As a new member to this great forum, I would like to offer a few suggestions to kep this forum from becoming like so many others. 1) Before a password is issued, the individual most be directed to a page of the stickys' or most ask/ most answered questions if at all possible. Or, if it all possible forward the stickys' with the new password to the individuals e-mail when the password is issued. 2) Maybe a short questionnaire to find out of the degree of Datsun Z and /or automotive knowledge. Depending on the expertise, that individual will be directed to that area to read specific information. 3) A required time of reading and searching before a question can be posted. This emay effect some new un-answered questions being asked, however it may force some individuals to read and search more. Thank you, Glenn A. INLINER FOR NOW BOWTIE COMING SOON !!!! -
Mike, You have to do what is right for you. However, I agree with 99% of what has been stated. From the age of 16 -29 I discovered through good and bad experiences with women exactly what I wanted and did not want. I did not get married until I was 33 yrs old and had my first child at 35. I am now 40 years old. My advice to you is to move on enjoy life, go out on dates and put this experience with this lady as a chapter in your life of what type of women to avoid. Because, you can easily become attracted to these type of women who like drama in their life and you being a good guy can rescue them all the time. I can spot toxic women a mile away ( my wife has a few friends who are toxic) and they can never be happy with another person until they like themselves. Drama in your life is a choice and /or option, and when I met my wife as Gorgeous as she is !! If she lied, disrespected, and dishonored me in public or private I would have kicked her to the curb and moved on. As much as I love my wife, I have self-respect and I still feel the same way today as I did then. You may not think so know, but once you begin to travel you will find there a lot good ladies out there looking for a hard working young guy. Life is too short, so do not settle and demand the best that life has to offer. Glenn A. ( P.S. My wife help me find my Z and she supports my car addiction, she also stated once I complete my swap she will smoke me once she gets hers Z06 vette !!! I am a happy man)

For the front wheels you will need -13 or 4 inch backspace based on 16 x 8 wheel. For the back -19 or 4 inch backspace based on 16 x 8.5 wheel. Go to link below and check out different specs. These specs will fit with just spring and shock changes (stock). With coilovers utilizing the same backspace, but upfront got to 16 x 9 watannabe and in the rear 16 x 9.5. My plan is to go with ZG flares and a Billet specialty wheel and I know for a fact 17 x11 wheel and 275 /40 17 tire will fill the wheel well nicely in the rear and 17 x 9 255 /40 17 upfront. If you like the watannabe wheel style, take a look at Panasport C8-17 as another option. Glenn A. INLINER FOR NOW BOWTIE COMING SOON http://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html#backspace

Gunmetal, The price on the 350 is $4,095.00. But, you may can go with the GM standard deluxe about 330 hp ($3,100 - 3,500) depending on distributor and do your modifications. The most important modification is going to a smaller 7.25 damper or smaller to fit based on JTR mods. Then you can change intake and carb. Also, check these guys out, http://www.blueprintengines.com/start_your_engine/index.html?topic=options&sye_category=GM+Vortec My local auto parts store (Flag Auto parts) can get any of these engines and I can save some money on shipping. I am also keeping in mind the warranties that comes with the motors. As I am sourcing and gathering all the parts, I think it was Mike Kelly or Dan Juday that stated buy your motor and transmission last, just before you install the motor so you have some time left on the warranty. Just in case there are some issues with either Glenn A. AKA Dudeboy

In late Jan. - Feb 2005, if JTR does not have a LS1 kit ready I have been looking at Crate motors at Sallee Chevrolet. Check the link below. Two motors caught eye the Sallee special 380 hp Deluxe and the 430 hp ZZ430. http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/Crate_Engines/performance.html Glenn A. INLINER FOR NOW BOWTIE COMING SOON !!!! P.S. Talk to a rep and you can get either motor turnkey.

CarolinaZ, The front MSA bumper/airdam attaches pretty easily. I helped another Z buddy install the front and rear - the rear was difficult. Have your Dremel tool and a rubber mallet handy You will quickly find out where the body lines may not be straight due to a previous owner / body shop mishaps. DaleMX, I will put the 70-73 240 fiberglass bumper on once I get to the stage of the bodywork. I am out here in Hiram, Paulding County on the weekends I may come through Cobb, Fulton, Dekalb or Gwinnett and so far I have not been pulled over - maybe it is my age or most of the officers are too young to realize the bumpers are removed on a 25 plus year old car. By the way, I am reading how your LS1 swap goes, I may go that route if JTR has the LS1 kit on the shelfs Jan.-Feb 2005. Carolina Z, Fit and finish depends on the expertise of the final prep before and during painting. The MSA airdam will look great if the prep and paint is done off the car. It is a simple task, but some shops do not remove the bolt on spoilers prior to painting unless you tell them or you bring your body pieces un-attached to the car.

Stagefumer, Yes, you can convert to standard blade fuses. The two conversions I have seen on other Z's are working fine. It is a good option that is better than stock. Go to link below. Glenn A. INLINER FOR NOW BOWTIE COMING SOON http://www.zcarcreations.com/howto/maxifuse.htm

Dudeboy replied to Bartman's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I bought the HP 280 Z kit from JDWERKS, quick shipping and as stated in the manufacturers box. The HP kit shocks are equal to a setting of 3 on the Illuminas. My buddy had the Illumina Kit on his 280 and you can feel the difference when you adjust the settings. If you have plans for autocrossing the Illumina Kit would work and maybe step up to some coilovers for more adjustability. For a daily driver, weekend freeway cruiser the HP kit along with new bushings and larger sway bars can not be beat Glenn A. INLINER FOR NOW BOWTIE COMING SOON !!!! -

zmettler, MSA has them in Orange California. Z year 1974- 1978 Black part#12-4334 you need one. Z year 1975-1978 Red part# 12-4336 you need the other three. Motorsport Auto cost is high ( black fusible link $5.44 Red fusible link $4.25) however I had electric issues with used and junkyard fusible links, replace the fusible links with the MSA links I had no more electirc issues. Also use dielectic grease on the electrical connections good stuff Glenn A. INLINER FOR NOW BOWTIE COMING SOON !!!!!
