  1. OK. I went ahead and ordered a set anyway and received them today. For anyone who may search this topic in the future, the pistons are stock compression height.
  2. Why does everyone use/recommend a 2mm head gasket? It reduces quench. I would use a 1mm head gasket and use meth/H2O injection. You can use the Haltec to trigger it. There is a company here in Atlanta that manufactures the kits at reasonable prices.
  3. thanks for the replies. I guess there are threads covering that. And I see now that my idea will not clear the steering shaft.
  4. What part wont fit? The wastegate itself? I can use a bend to the wastegaste pipe and put it anywhere. I've welded steel to cast before and it didn't hold well. I want a good design that will allow the wastegate good flow.
  5. Here is my idea for a wastegate adapter for the L28ET. I want to fab my own since those ebay units cause boost creep and are poor designs. Thanks
  6. I just wanted to know if these have a shorter compression height than stock. I know most stock replacement pistons do to allow for milling the deck. Thanks
  7. I wanted to thank those who have helped me get my car running faster buy sharing the car's performance #s before and after modifications. When the car was completely stock the car ran 64mph in the 1/8th mile. Now, with the mods listed in my signature, I hit 73mph @9.51 today. I do have the 240sx tb installed now. I ran a cable and modified my pedal. I forgot to attach the trans kickdown so the trans was shifting way too early. I'm sure i could have shaved a few 1/10ths otherwise. Again, thanks. Check out the video
  8. my timing is locked at 35. any less and it has no balls. I locked it at 20 and I though there was a banana in my tailpipe.
  9. i did have the factory spec of 6.5 psi before the mods. So i thought if the wastegate allowed 6.5psi before i should still have at least 6.5psi. The wastegate seems to be free again. Thanks again. i should have double checked everything first.
  10. thanks guys. i guess the wastegate was hanging open a little. i pulled it back all the way and blocked off the hose and guess what? 8psi. And thats plenty for now. No I dont have a VNT. if new turbos didn't have a core charge i would have turbos out the wazoo. Thanks for the help. I will be looking into a boost controller.
  11. Thank you. i know how a turbo works. i've been a diesel mechanic for 12 years. turbos these days use a variable geometry or (vane) controlled by the ECM. I was just asking, in the vast world of the 280zx turbo, what is the most popular way to get more boost out of my car?
  12. im saying my boost is low and the wastegate seems to be closed. In other words i don't think the wastegate is why my boost is low (5.5psi)
  13. yes my car is a ford. that is why i joined and posted in the s130 280zx forum. why did you waste your time with that reply. try to be more creative.
  14. hello. i've been searching a while, read http://www.zhome.com...tech/turbo.html a few times. i have installed the mandrel bent 3" exhaust, no cat, no muffler, a saab 900 intercooler with 2.25" piping, and a megasquirt system. Those are the only mods. My question is, how do i get more boost without greatly modifying the turbo? Boost controller? I don't think my wastegate is opening. This car would be a beast at 10psi. Is the hybrid setup the only route? I do want to do this eventually and if some non-newbie could point me in the right direction. Thank you so much.
  15. hello, been a member a while, this is my first post. i just built a megasquirt1 V2.2 for my 83 280zx turbo. i would like to explain some trouble that i had and what i did to fix it. i had no problem assembling the board or stimulator. the problem that i had was firing the coil. I used the schematics provided here http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?showtopic=23244 which worked well for triggering MSnS but there was a problem with firing the coil. First thing i had to do was download the latest firmware to my cpu. Instructions for that can be found @ diyautotune.com. You also need to download megatune to set everything up on your MSnS. Set up your engine constants which are self explanatory. Some things that are not are: (in codebase and outputs function) FIDLE needs to be set to "Spark A". LED17/D14: need to be set to "squirt", (in Spark) dwell setting: need to be "fixed duty and minimal for HEI" Also spark output inverted: "NO" Some mods to make to the board are as follows: to trigger MSnS. Look at your board with the DB37 on the right and DB9 on your left. Find R29 (on the far right) there is a hole to the right of R29, then find X13 & X12 and there is a hole to the right of X13 & X12. Place your 1K ohm resistor across those holes and solder it in. That is your pull-up resistor for the distributor input signal. Now for the output: cut out transistor Q5 and solder the lower two pins together. Dont bother wiring in a pull-up 5V resistor on the FIDLE circuit but do wire up the HEI module as shown in http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?showtopic=23244. The schematic does not show the necessary 12V to the coil +. Also the TPS wiring is, BLACK: ground, RED: Vref, White: signal. Hope this helps!
