  1. I am currently doing a RB swap into my '72 240z, i am using a RB30DET (RB25DE head on the RB30E bottem end) Once you know the little tricks and what parts to use etc it is a fairly straight forward swap (don't read cheap) I am spending my money on good bolt on stuff, but i guess you dont have to. Costings on parts collected so far, in NZ$ RB30 engine (cheap as chips in NewZealand) $150 modified RB25DE (R33 VVT) head with gaskets & RBDEoil pump etc $900 Custom inlet plenum $1,250 R33 RB25DET 5 speed box $2,000 Billet alloy 80mm thottle body $500 Custom engine mounts $170 Z200r Rb20de rear sump pan & pickup $480 600x300x100 intercooler $500 Parts still needed Custom rear gbox mount $200? exhaust manifold $700? GT35R or similar turbo $2,000? New stand alone ECU $1500? Remote wastegate $750? Pipe work $500? Fuel rail & injectors $1,000 Random stuff i forgot $2,000 Not trying to scare you here, but this is what this stuff costs, with the right bits it will all bolt in & with my combo above will make in excess of 600hp no drama. I guess it could be done cheaper as i am putting in some good bits. Ie you could run factory thottle body, inlet plenum, smaller factory type intercooler, cheaper turbo etc and save some dollars. But hey you dont go to all this trouble to get "just a little more power" than an L series do ya? From a physical size point of view the RB swap would be heaps easier i'm sure than the VG30DETT. Hope this has been of some help. Get into it!
  2. Jamie, i will be looking at these items in the next couple of days, as soon as the guy gets them out, so will confirm then.
  3. Hey Stony I wont be putting the motor in for a little while yet, probably about a month, have some front end panel work to get sorted first. Yeah the price was good, not worth mucking about making mine own for that sort of money eh. as long as they work all good.
  4. I sure am! Im using the Rb30 bottem end from the Australian built Holden Commodore and fitting a Rb25DE cyl head onto it and putting it into a '72 240z. Yes the mounts will fit all RB engines into the early Z, the mounts place the engine as low & far back as possible. There are made by the Castlemain Rod Shop in Australia, and cost A$150 for the pair. http://www.rodshop.com.au/mounts.htm the part# you want is EM81 Should be a pretty wild beast when finished.
  5. You guys have done well and got good deals, mine is going to be closer to NZ$500 for all three shipped to me.
  6. We wait with baited breath! What ever it is, If it fits in with the rest of your mods, i'm sure it will be worth waiting for!!!
  7. I am going to look at the GTR rear end and hubs etc tomorrow, It sounds like the bearing housing within the GTR hub comes out of the hub, so will look at adapting this to 240z, will advise once all is clear.
  8. Oh good, that means my sump etc wont be far away either as i ordered from Japan as well. Nissan Japan must wonder why the heck the sudden rush of sales on these parts?????
  9. My RB motor mounts just turned up today on the courier, they look like a nice part and pretty cheap at $150 Australian, lets hope they fit now! Also recieved my R33 RB25DET 5 speed box this week too! Its better than Xmas!!! Man she sure is a biggin! - sorry about the dark photo(taken with my phone)
  10. These things are supose to be bullet proof, we'll see.
  11. What needs to be done to fit the R200 LSD(mech) centre from a short nose (R32 GTR Skyline rear diff) into the housing of a long nose R200 casing?? Or can the complete short nose (R32 GTR) casing be fitted to the '72 240z?? Has any one had experience with this swap?
  12. Hey Stony, I am now looking at going back to my original plan of swapping into my 72 240z a mech LSD from a R32 GTR (think this will be a lot easier than the R230 after reading all this) you wouldnt happen to know the Ratio of these would you? Also i wonder if the R32 GTR CV's are the same as the Z31 or the Z32TT ones so i could use some of Ross's CV adapters????
  13. Oh well, we'll soon see when i go to bolt mine up, fingers crossed they're ok, i'll let you know how i get on once i do.
  14. I have seen one of those here in NZ with a turbocharged GSXR1100 motorcycle engine in it, it use to lift the front wheels off the ground!!! And it was a street car. LOL
  15. ****, I hope mine fit them, they havn't turned up yet! Can you post pics of yours?
  16. Hey guys, really like the look and sound of what you are doing here. Look forward to seeing how this thread develops and learning heaps from it! As i think i'm going to need a serious rear end upgrade on my car, as i have a RB30DET & the strong R33 RB25DET 5 speed so its going to be the rear end (currently R180 & all stock bits) thats my weak link, I am new to zeds so this is going to be a very benificial thread, Thanks & Nice work!
  17. Hey 30DET, is that your plenum? or have you just priced one at this stage?
  18. Hey Guys this manifold was for a R33 RB25DE head. As per your question of making an order for one, contact Rob Ward [rips@inspire.net.nz] He can make one to your spec. He also has a very fast turn around! If you order one mention that the 240z guy from wellington put you on to him.
  19. Hey guys thanks for the nice comments on the plenum, No i did not build this myself. It was built by Rob Ward at R.I.P.S (Rotorua Import Pro Shop) here in New Zealand, he is a specilist in building RB30DET engines and does a lot of work/fabrication for all the skyline guys in NZ & Australia. Rob has a RB30DET powered Drag car running 800hp on standard internals!!!! He is the Man. He builds very nice turbo headers as well.
