  1. Rodney, are you sure you're not related to Mike Kelly (admin here)? He sells on-the-car adjustable A-arms front and rear, and is talking about getting into the Sport Compact market since that's where the money is! BTW, with your experience I vote for you to convert at least the front of the Z to double wishbone suspension, and offer us a kit! Welcome,
  2. Well, that thread was heated, but like others said, some good info. The Scarab vs Setback (JTR and to some extent MSA) engine placement pros and cons came out. You have to read the entire thing to get all the info, but it's worth a read. Lone, Mike, everyone. If we can't learn by our mistakes, then we are destined to repeat them. I don't think anyone can say they're perfect or can't learn something technical, social or diplomatic...
  3. Of course, there's this thread: http://www.hybridz.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=001259 Only 5 pages of reading
  4. I must admit, I have to agree with Demidion in some part - I can't see going to the trouble of doing all the work to swap that motor in if a tweaked output of 300hp is all there is to be had without a bunch more modification and $$$ - unless 300 hp is all you really want and you want to do the swap just to do it! And of course, there's nothing wrong with that! For near the same money as the S14 setup, why not get an RB26ETT, the right oil pan, make some mounts, and go for it! Unless you're looking for the super light weight of the SR20ET to bring the weight and polar moment of interia down. To each his own - we all don't have to have the same engine, nor do we all want 400+ hp under the hood!
  5. I'm an ME, and I'd have to agree with Mike on this one. If there is a heat treat on the PG part, then .5mm might well take that away. I also agree on his advice to follow the instructions.
  6. RacerX, it's nothing to be sorry about. Now the guy that runs Arizona Z Car, he's the one that needs to get off his butt and fix his site! Why keep the stuff up on the site for people to find and then call about if he's only going to tell them that he's not in the business of selling the stuff anymore?
  7. I've not seen that yet, maybe I have that catalog and need to look. I'd consider using one of these new adhesive systems for installing patch panels. You'd have alot of surface area that would be holding those flares on, and I'd think a high strength adhesive, like used to put patch panels, 1/4 panels, etc. on these days would be fine. The great thing is you wouldn't have to worry about warping the sheet metal.
  8. RacerX, Arizona Z car no longer sells any fiberglass or body kits. Hasn't for a year or more. Why he has the page up still, I don't understand.
  9. Of course, it's just a computer program, but those numbers don't sound too bad! Probably high, but that kind of power out of a "streetable" 355 seems good!
  10. I used Desktop Dyno 2000, with Chevy High Performances flow numbers for those heads. I couldn't find a 292 duration hydraulic roller cam, but I used the 294 hyd Xtreme roller, PN 12-443-8 I assumed a single plane manifold, large tube headers through mufflers Here's what DD2000 said: code: rpm HP torque (ft-lb) 2000 133.0 349.1 2500 179.8 377.7 3000 226.9 397.1 3500 286.2 429.4 4000 347.3 455.8 4500 403.4 470.7 5000 442.9 465.1 5500 463.6 442.5 6000 467.5 409.1 6500 454.4 367.0 7000 416.7 312.5 7500 384.9 269.4 Pretty Stout!
  11. Pick up Dave Emanuel's book on Supertuning and Modifying Holley Carbs. He goes all through air bleed modifications, etc. Great book. Any other Holley carb books out there that would compliment this one?
  12. Jim, there's a company that used to be up in Linthicum MD, Noise Cancellation Tech that did some work on this years ago. Then Walker was reported to be doing it as well. The Mitsu 300GT VR4 had this kind of system on it.
  13. Jim, come by again and this time we'll wait for my engine to warm up enough to turn on the Mustang GT electric fan. It may change your mind about electric fans moving air - and only when they need to. Most of the aftermarket fans don't pull much air. Spal may be the exception to this. Consider this: The OE's build cars that hopefully don't have to have later fixes (TSB's, etc.) applied to them if there's a design problem. Using a fan off of a decent sized engined late model car will most likely mean it can move a decent amount of air. The GT Mustang fan I have has a large permanent magnet motor (read: efficient) and pulls 35 amps on high speed. That's a bit of power.
  14. Try Banzai Motorworks Banzai Motorworks Vintage Datsun Specialist Since 1970 8039-B Penn Randall Place, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772 Phone/Fax: (301) 420-4200 He knows his stuff about stock Zs, not sure how versed he is with an LSD setup.
  15. You sound like Dave Emanuel with that advice . I doubt I'd try it before I tried a bunch of other things first. One tip I got off of the Chevytalk board was to solder them shut and drill. A bit easier and softer than epoxy. Both would save the carb body though.
  16. Sorry Cody, it's kind of buried: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/pparaska/cooling.htm Not alot there, but it was pretty easy.
  17. Great list of stuff to check, Mike C. I'd like to add two other possibilities: 1) the temp gage is reading wrong. Try a mechanical one. Electric ones can read incorrectly by 20 degrees - I've seen it happen on a few Autometer ones. 2) Maybe there's air in the system. Put the car up on ramps under the front wheels, start the engine with the cap off, and after it warms up, top off the radiator. I saw my temps drop 20 degrees on my Z after getting air out of the system.
  18. Thanks Grump. Great links. I'd read all those from the last time you posted, plus I'd seen some of them before. Any other good books though?
  19. But 240ztt actually posted that URL, and I tried to reply but accidently hit "edit". Since I'm and admin, it let me edit and without thinking, I screwed up and erased what he wrote. 240ztt should get the credit. $3800 for one of those in good condition, ain't too shabby! How much for a tranny I wonder?
  20. Yeah, it's enough to pull the idle speed down a 150 or 200 rpm! I need a bunch of carb work though - it's not idling very well (the lumpy solid lifter cam has something to do with that though!)
  21. Thanks Jon. I guess I didn't look very carefully for the springs. I'm guessing that the straps that you remove after installing the PG unit are set to a desired length, to keep the blocks at a predetermined spacing from each other. I was just surprised that such a seemingly simple little device was fetching so many $$. Seems that if someone wanted to they could reverse engineer it and do it cheaper. The problems would be finding the correct material/finish to get the the friction correct and to get the wear properties correct.
  22. John, you bought that off the Internet a year or so ago, right? Sweet cruiser. Perfect for taking the lady out to dinner in!
  23. Someone near Orange CA is building a V8 928.
  24. JohnG, others, sorry I stole your thread and turned it into an East coast catch all get together thread. If you PA/OH area guys do something, I'll try my best to get to that too! BTW, I'll be moving this thread to the Non-Tech forum soon - look for it there. Mike, touche' You got me on that one. I guess I asked for it. As for comedic relief, you won't need any if I have a few beers - you are going to have beer aren't you? Let me know how I can help with putting this thing together. I'll come down the night before to help out. Slide projector? You have to be kidding! We'll have the real thing there! And I'd be happy to field questions, but seems people know a bit about my build - I'm more interested in looking at the other cars there!
  25. I just found out a few days ago that the reunion I was planning on going to in July is put off until next Summer. That should be enough time to finish my Z, no? Just kidding, it'll be on the road this Summer. I think you guys should think about coming down to Mike Kelly's HybridZ Mid-Atlantic bash on 7 Sept, in Fredericksburg VA. According to Mapquest, it's about 310 miles from Butler to Fredericksburg. Mike, I hope you can handle the crowd! I have at least three other guys coming down that are local and the number grows weekly. So far, it's Glenn McCoy, who you've met, another Glenn from HybridZ, and their friend Rob. Ken Maenner will probably be there, and I bet 240ZTT and his buds will be there too. How many lifts in that garage you're building? Maybe you should plan on some port-a-pots and some concession vendors too And don't forget the beer truck with taps!
