  1. I know they aren't rare but they look a heck of a lot better than a lot of wheels that I've seen and they were free so I'm not going to complain. I had the tires dismounted yesterday by a buddy of mine who works at discount tire and I took one of the rims into the shop today and glass beaded it, the old finish came off really easy and I just cleaned up the back side a bit. It looks much better now! I took a sanding stick to a couple of scratches and leveled them out and filed out a couple of smaller scratches. I then took a chunk of scotchbite I had laying around to the centers and outer ring and I think I like the brushed look a little better than polished, it doesn't hurt that it's a helluva lot less work. I think the centers are going to get painted black because I havn't decided what color to paint the car yet, and black goes with Everything. I'll snap a couple of pics later and post them. The only thing I'm worried about is the corrosion on the mating flange, aluminum rim on steel hub, is there any way to prevent it from getting worse? Could I take the rims to a welding shop and have them fix it?

  2. I've been looking at tinkering with the BMW v12 for a while now and I have a few things that I should point out. One the engine is ALL aluminum, it doesn't even have steel sleeves! The cylinder bores are hardened and the rings ride on that. When I get around to buying one, I'm boring out the cyls and having steel sleeves put in. I much rather the rings wear out before the walls do. This will make for a longer lasting engine. Also, try going down to the local BMW dealer and getting a rebuild kit, or gasket set, or bearings. I went down and asked for spits and giggles and well, I didn't get very far. I hope your local dealer is more receptive than mine ...maybe if I go down there in a suit next time. Either way, a rebuild is going to cost big bucks. The flip side of doing all that would be to just get a low miles engine and running with it until it dies, disposable engine. It would probably be much cheaper that way. I dont know much about the toy engine so your on your own there.

btw, the newer v12s have the ability to go to a much larger displacement, I dont remember how much exactly but 7.0L rings a bell. Also they all have DOHC heads, which *might* bolt onto the older engines. The bmw v12 has massive amounts of potential its just that parts are so friggin expensive, if the parts were available then this engine would be a force in the performance world. Just look at what McClaren has done with it, the F1 uses the very same engine, and they are getting near 1,000hp N/A!

  3. Do you guys know anything about restoring wheels? I've got a set of Carroll Shelby rims that are going on my 240z but they look like crap. I want to clean them up a bit but I have no clue where to start. Everyone I've talked to has mentioned either wire wheel or grit blasting, I'm a little hesitant to do either because I'd like to keep the original finish if possible. But I dont know if thats possible. If you guys have any ideas, I'm listening! If all else fails I'll blast them and have them powdercoated. Here's a pic for reference:

  4. Gaah, I've been down working on my zx all day trying to get it ready to be parted out and it has given me more issues than I care to list. At the moment I've got an electrical gremlin that wont let the car crank over, at all. I'm on the line whether to pass on the fun to someone else or part it and hope for the best. If you want the car make an offer, the wheels have already been swapped but other than that what you see is what you get.

  5. condition or rear suspension set up? ala brakes :)

    Differential?

    Brake master cylinder?

I may be interested in those depending on the costs :-D

Check out the link I posted, it has pics of most of that stuff. brake master cylinder is mine tho, gotta go with my toy calipers... PM me an offer and we can arrange something.

  6. To create more wind speed you can use the venturi effect to your advantage. Use a large box fan and build a duct to route the air into your existing tube. You will have some air trying to escape back through the fan since its not a closed circuit, but it will increase your velocity a bit.

Even if you cant get wind speed up as high as you want, you can still track the airflow characteristics around different parts and pieces. By studying the airflow around the model the slickest design can be found, or at least you can get pretty close. You can also find something that will prevent the exhaust from building up at the tail panel.

  7. that's what she sid ;)

    but honetly' date=' cheap? I'd be down for a v12 in my Z but I don't see anything v1 being cheap.[/quote']

Go to Car-parts.com and search for a 1992 BMW 750i engine in your area, it will run between $500-$1500 depending on condition. There are always rebuilt ones on ebay also.

  8. Hit the yard sales you can usually get a lawnmower or weedwacker pretty cheap they come in two and four stroke and as long as one cylinder is not a problem, it should work for you. I have no idea what your up to so I dont know if it will work or not, just throwing out ideas for you.

  9. just asking for the car to be stolen..

look everyone! I have a big turbo and very expensive engine components!

Hence the reason why I never quite understood aftermarket stereo equipment.

I have been toying with the idea of setting up a small business making custom acrylic and plexiglass panels. I'm going to need some for my car so why not get the expensive equipment and build stuff for other people too? Your hood is something that can easily be hot formed. I'm not too sure about cold forming it though.

  10. are you talking about just the bumper or the entire nose?

If its the whole thing and the price is right, I'll take it off your hands! I've always wanted a G nose, and my car currently happens to be lacking in that department.

  11. I still drool everytime I see your car chelle! I hope my V12 powered Ferrari replica looks half as good as yours! I hope you wouldn't mind too terribly if I bugged the crap out of you with questions as I get closer to my V12 install. What transmission did you end up using in your car and how difficult was it to adapt?

btw, your hood latches are awesome!

  12. Too bad there's not a "tall" aluminum L6 block available with 92mm bore...

    Its in the works...

This engine might be a fading dream since my daily driver is beginning to act up, the expensive kind of acting up.. If it breaks, I wont have any choice but to swap in the stock L28 and get the Z running that way.
