  1. hey thanks for the replys guys I took off my new bushings and put the old ones back in after shaving off one side and putting a bolt against one side to force the a arm over a bit finally the rear wheels look straight! I'm going to watch for tread wear, I can't really afford the $136 adjustible bushings, gotta save for that Turbo!
  2. I was at a wrecking yard looking for a heater switch and opening all of the zx hoods when WOW! a turbo!!!!! It was hit in the rear, shows 128,000 miles so must of been running when put there right? BUT the #1 spark plug was missing, and the oil dip stick was also gone so God only know how many rain storms it sat through like that? Oh and the ditribitor (spelling?) cap and wires where all gone. I tried to turn it over by hand with no luck -had no tools- The guy said he would take $200 for the motor. If I go back with a jump starter box should I put some oil in the top first? and then try to get a compression check on all the pistons, and then I was going to take off the intake to the turbo a see if the shaft has ant play. Could this be worth buying? Thanks for any help in my quest for that turbo power in my 280z.....
  3. Hey FI JUNKY give me an e-mail, I've got a 78 280z and am planning on getting a l28et motor for it. I'd like to see what you do to yours and how much power you get. I took a ride in a 280z with a 82 l28et, T4, intercooler, megasqurt?? 11 pounds boost about 280 hp?? it felt real good! texascycles@yahoo.com
  4. I have a 78 280z and the right rear wheel was toe in wearing the outside edge of the tire, so I put new bushings, new struts, and used "A" arms off a 240z. Its alot better, but still a little toe in. So I'm thinking of taking 2 of my old bushings carving them a little on one side to force the rear of the a arm in and the front of the a arm out thus giving me about half an inch of toe out?????? What else could it be, frame damage? sorry lost my camera so no pics.
  5. The tranny is extra, thanks for all the info........
  6. PUSHER...I don't know why but right after my last post your 2 pics showed, all this time all it said was "good side bad side" I see where your tape measure is, I'm going to put the tape to my car tomorrow and post up what I find here.
  7. hey thanks, I was reading today about rear strut removal http://www.biopatent.com/rearstruts.html I'm going to try to fix it right........but, Now that I won this L28ET on e-bay, Thats all the spending cash I have right now. what to do, what to do? I gotta have the turbo motor right? 85,000 "miles" (going to do compression test!!!) Or continue getting about 3-4 months on a set of rear tires.??:
  8. Oh! One more thing! should I get the turbo 5 speed tranny, or just keep my 280z 5 speed. I can't afford to make this thing a hp monster yet, but mabe in the future. And is the motor with tranny a direct bolt in? like the motor alone is.
  9. Hey thanks for the info! If I get the aftermarket fuel pump, how much boost & hp could the stock set-up take without an intercooler? Just a bone stock motor, computer, injectors, turbo....ALL STOCK exept the fuel pump.....Thanks
  10. Thanks for the info I guess I'll take it down to ALL Z its kind of like a junk yard of all types of z cars, They might be able to look at it and tell me what I need to pull off one of the cars in the back to fix it. I just rotaited my tires today because the backs are getting thin.
  11. The outside of my rear tires are balding MUCH faster than the inside. And they both seem to be toe in. I'm thinking of taking it down to "All Z" In Fort Worth for an alinment But I'm wondering if this is a common plroblem like if the bushings are bad or somthing? Everthing looks straight under the rear, A arms, sway bar. I do see one problem, The bolt that goes through and mounts the lower strut to the "A" arm has a little damage to the nut on one side, like it bottomed out on somthing. But thats just on one side, and both rear tires are wearing fast on the outside edge. There is no adjustment for the rear so I don't know whats up? I'm putting in an L28ET soon so I need to get this fixed.
  12. Hey thanks, no problem on the pics. I will try to get that fuel pump.
  13. I just bought off e-bay an 82 L28et with 85,000 miles on the motor, I'm going this next weekend to hear it run, then pull it from the car, along with the 5 speed tranny. I've read the drax240z artical on putting the turbo motor in the z car, and the only thing I'm wondering is do I absolutly need the turbo fuel pump, or will mine from my 280z work fine? Included in the sale is the motor, wire harness, computer, AFM, everything needed to put it in my 280z and turn the key, but do I need to make sure I get the fuel pump? Also what other little things do I want to make sure I get from the car before I leave? Its about a seven hour drive away!
  14. where can you get a copy of that mag? Barnes&Noble???I'd like to check it out.
  15. I took out one of the pics, is that better? Its not as tall.
  16. I can weld, fab anything, but after talking to Tim78et, and riding in his 78 with an L28et motor, and hearing that turbo wizz, and the blow off valve blowing air, I'm hooked! I am now in surch of an L28et motor!! If anyone in Texas, or near by states has one let me know.
  17. Hey Tim, is that All Z Car, The car parts place off 820? Do they meet there on Sat? If so what time?
  18. OK I'm always thinking, so here we go. after looking on e-bay, what if I bought an aftermarket supercharger, made brackets to fit on my 78 fuel injected L28 motor, and forced air into the intake. Would I get a horse power increase? Would the computer know whats going on with the increase in air?
  19. My stock tb is 50mm (or so thats what I've read here) and I see alot of people state in their upgrades that they have added a 60mm tb, some seem to have said thats all they have done. So, I'm just wondering if thats an upgrade that can be done by it self?
  20. How much REAL improvment will a 60mm tb make on my 78 280z? Will I REALLY feal any difference? And when you put the 60mm on, is any other mod necessary, or is it kind of a bolt on and go. I've searched and read alot of threads on this forum but can't find my answer. So now I ask you. I know about the minnor fab work with putting it on. I'm thinking of the 60mm tb and cold air intake, just for a little boost.
  21. Hey dr hunt where do you live? I'm in the Dallas area, and would love to see this car!! Maybe get some info on the v8 swap.
  22. hey thanks, I've seen that before but never looked at the links, very nice! But now I'm depressed, I don't have $2-$3000 to put into the car, so I'll just live with the stock 170hp
  23. so if I want to turbo charge my 78 280z (its fuel injected), what parts do I need from a 280zx turbo to make it work? would I need the computer? cam? injectors? Or just the turbo, exhaust manifold. What is the cheapest way to get some turbo? and would taking a turbo off a 280zx be worth it, don"t they have somthing like 7lbs of boost stock? Can you get more without getting a diff. turbo?
  24. what about fuel injection, what would you have to do.
  25. Boy I did'nt know about the 150k rpm, you would have to do some gearing to reach that. Thanks for the info!
