  1. Even a mild SBC will be great in a z car. Now, everyone will recommend something different. I'd say the 327, because it is semi weak on the lower RPM's which is ok, because if it was too much, hookin up would be a problem, the high rpm power is pretty impressive, thats just my opinion.
  2. Check this out guys! I hadnt seen it posted here already real nice car.. i wish there was more pics http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6187&item=4532843945&rd=1
  3. phantom, you were the reason i got into this. i saw you car at sonic one night, and fell in love with the idea. I called jerry, he only has a wrecked on that hes workin on, and will sell that one from 1200. Im lookin for any model, 240, 260, 280, but no zx's It has to be a manual tranny tho.
  4. My Mos is 21-romeo, An interior electrician. I hated FLW, it was alwful. Going from texas, to missouri was a shock. I put fort hood on my wish list, and got it! Im so excited, i have 17 days of home town recruiting, i report on march 17. I kinda excited, but scared at the same time about iraq, i know for sure im going. Whats your rank, mos, and how long you been in ?
  5. Well, im done with AIT at Fort Lenord Wood, and my permant duty station is for hood, only 1.5 hours from my housr in fort worth. I am looking for a damn z car, and cant find any. Do any D/FW guys have any leads for me?
  6. Holy cow guys, thats alota good info. As for the price, i already have the most expensive part, the crank. Nothing else is hard to come buy, aside from pistons. I bought the crank on ebay, for $275, not too much for a forged crank. It was still in the freaking box, never once installed. When i looked on "mortec.com" to decode the crank casting numbers, this is what i got "3474.......283.......forged..small journal....3.00" stroke, military tank use" I know it says 283, but a 283, and 302 is the same thing. The neat part is "military tank use" i'm just guessing it would be one hell of a crank, because if it was ment for the army, then it would have higher tolerences and stuff. It did come in a military box, and has never been installed. The only other really expensive part is the pistons, The cheapest i have found is about $500, and yes thats forged. since all the 302's had forged pistons, i think they dont make a cast set. You guys ahve got me all excited to build this motor and stick it in. If anyone reads chevy Hi-performance, theres an article in this monthes issue, they built a 355, for right at $3,000 that made 412hp. They bought holley aluminum heads, intake, and camshaft, for $1,400. i think thats a hell of a deal. The good thing about this article is it tells how much everypart cost, and the part number, so i could easly copy them, and spend the same $$.
  7. Man, i dont want to start an arguement, but i chose the 302 because, like you said, it raps up quick as hell. And to me the 383 is the EXACT opposite of that. Most of the 383's ive been around rap up kinda slow cause of the lo ng stroke. some guys maybe into the tq, but i say, build for hp, and tq will take care of it self. I know i should catch alota flak from that, but try to hold back on this thread. So the low rpm power is soft you say? isnt that good for a z car, too much low rpm power, i think would be useless, no traction. I would only shoot for 300hp, which i think would be easy as hell to get in a 302, and it would still be fast as shit. 6,500RPM, i heard 302's can go to 7,500 with pretty much stock parts?
  8. ive only seen like 3 302's in my time, ive never even heard one run. Is it true the power kicks in at midrange RPM, wouldnt this be perfect for a z, to minimize tire spin?
  9. I have a 302 chevy that i think would be perfect for a z. Does anyone have a 302 in thier z? I know a few people run 327's i did a search and found some info Do the 327s behave in a z? i think a z would be perfect for a 302, i consider them to the be the king of all RPM motors. Lemmi know guys.
  10. thats great, espeically the womens mouth shut one.
  11. i posted in the wronge section heres a link to the post. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?p=511344&posted=1#post511344
  12. My mos is 21-romeo, (interior electrician) My training unit? 1/61 infanty. regiment, Fort Jackson, is that what you mean? SUCKS! that i cant have the computer!! So there will be a period of time between training and iraq? My first duty station will prolly be over seas, correct?
  13. Well kids, i just wanted to say bye to yall. I havnt been on here too long, but i sure do like what ive seen thus far. I leave tommorow morning to go to AIT at Fort Lenord wood missouri for a couple weeks, then i will go to iraq Ive got a couple questions if anyone knows jack about the military Do i get leave after AIT? Anyone tookAIT at fort lenord wood? if so how are the barracks? can i get the old computer mailed too me?
  14. Heres the deal. I found this on another z forum, and pounced on it. 3 other ppl were ahead of my, but they back out. Its a 1977 z, that runs. It was in a wreck and the frame is bent. I have no idea what color it is, or if theres rust or anything like that. i just basically wanted it for the interior. the body could be awesome, or crappy, and covered in rust, the important thing is, that its FREE. Its located in Midalotion (or however you spell it) he said i can get it if i want, But i freakin go back to the army in about 3 days, so my family wants me to spend time with them and blah blah. They guys is pretty cool, heres and e-mail he sent me. So, if one of you texas boys wants it, let me know and i can give you his e-mail address. But please please please, sell me the black interior out of it for like $50 or something it was free to you. Just thought i would help you kiddos out. Lemmi know. It does run, but he says only for a few minutes. the interior is black and in good shape except for the carpet & the dash. the body, glass, trim is in better shape than you might think.the engine starts & runs but then dies, something with the fuel injection & that air flow meter. If you disconnect it it will start run for maybe a minute then dies. If the air flow meter is hooked up it won't start at all. before I got this car it was driven daily its still has good plates and inspection. I bought it for $150 plus my old air compressor from a guy I work with. He wrecked it I thought I could replace the bad parts & sell it. after I tore it the front end apart I found the bent frame. I was told it could be fixed but I don't have the money & the time now to put into this car so i'm just going to cut my losses with it . I'm a chevy and would rather work on something I want. I bougtht a service manual for this car from nissan. Its an original reprint used my dealership mechinics it covers just the 77 model. would you be interested in it. I paid $75 would like $50 for it. this book is about 1000 pages and has alot more details than the chiltons books.and still no contact from the guy who wants the car, his time is running out. jim
  15. My mos is a 21-romeo, which is "interior Electrician" My dad owns an electrical bussiness in fort worth "texsun electric" and thats pretty much what i wanted to do, and i wanted to join the army, i combined both For yalls info. I went to Jerry @ all z cars, and the z i had my heart set on, was rusted to shit. SO! if anyone here has a rust free, runnin or not runnin, z-car, please lemmi know! (in tejas)
