  1. Mine looks like the 1st one ('69 Camaro bracket) but I wouldn't worry about the 'look' so much because they attach to the block the same way--you have to use a spacer (like I did) or washers to place the alternator correctly in line with the pulleys anyway. Also, you may have to space the earlier one from the block with a washer or two, but it is really no big deal; I did the same. You'll have your pics tonight, although the bracket is a bit hard to see. Davy
  2. Click on the icon that looks like a letter with a stamp on it along the top of Grumpy's post, and that should get his email. Davy

Andrew, I have heard this is true. I do, however, have a ST with 3" internal flow directors. Rick Johnson is the guy i bought the system from, and he said it was NOT easy getting the 3" St with the 3" internal flow directors--it also had a bearing upon the price too apparently. They can be purchased and I would think they are still available. Davy
  4. Good words of wisdom--make sure the car actually drives before doing anything else. A driver (even a bad one) is worth more than one that doesn't. If you have the car operating, then go through and clean up everything you can. With a little money, you can pull better or nicer interior parts from a wrecking yard car for pennies. I used a SEM spray dye product--"Landau Black" to restore pure normalcy of color to my black plastic interior pieces. They looked like new and I was totally amazed at how much satisfaction I could get for a little work and very little money. Davy
  5. Ryan, I don't want to dump on the idea, but I would think the Caddy motors would be nearly too wide to fit in there. Have you done some measuring? It would be a neat car though if it works. Davy
  6. You could build the car for that, but you'd have to find a total deal on all the parts, in addition to fabricating many of the conversion parts. See if the local library has the JTR manual on file, that way you don't have to shell out the money for it. Davy
  7. GM Sports Salvage is where Mike Knell gets all his stuff from. Also, they do warranty their stuff too. I bought my Camaro V8 from them. Davy
  8. Oh yes, there are deal out there. I saw a 900 hp turbocharged V8 last December on ebay. The guy would sell it offline for about $3,000. It had everything too. I was wishing I had the money at the time. Still, everything can be done on a budget, but it will sometimes take longer due to waiting for the deals to arrive. Davy
  9. Pete, I would help move those posts too if I had Admin powers... Then you wouldn't have so much work to do Davy
  10. If anyone knows about the evrr shrinking budget it's me! I feel no animosity toward Mikelly or anyone else that is making a decent income--more power to them! I do, however, want that for my own family too Heh heh, someday... Myron, good to see you back and posting again--hope that everything works out an you get your car finished sometime in the next year or so. Mark, please see my email to you. Davy
  11. Yes the "rams horn" manifolds need to be angle milled--the JTR manual shows you what angle you need to mill them. I was going to go with some, but the ones I pulled from the junkyard were cracked (found out later). So I ended up with the Summit racing headers (supposedly made by FlowTech) and will probably have them powder coated sometime this year. Davy
  12. BLKMGK, I'm not sure if you were talking about Zolotone (sp?) or not, but I posted about the stuff eons ago in one of these forums. I like the look of the stuff and want to use something like it in mine! Davy
  13. Think of NOPI as the Summit Racing of the import world. They are a 'warehouse' of parts, but most of them are shipped from the manufacturers I believe. The parts are only as good as the brands they carry--if it is a generic part, your guess is as good as mine. Davy
  14. I had Weber DGV's on my 260Z--they were great at WOT, but were not the greatest carbs otherwise. Some guys may hate me for saying this, but I would take SU's over the DGV's. Also, I think my car was getting between 8 and 13 miles per gallon--maybe my fault for improperly tuning them, but I drove the car with a lead foot. Davy
  15. The only reason most of us in California shy away from the 260Z and 280Z is for smog reasons. With the 240Z, we don't have a yearly (or biannual) smog check. Otherwise, I'd love to have a 280Z over a 240Z! Being a bit heavier doesn't bother me since they are a stronger car--weight is nothing a 383 can't handle anyway Davy
  16. Mark, Sounds like you have hit the 'jackpot of power' for your ride, but is this just a spicy street/strip racer you are building or a strip only car? If this motor is for the street, how 'streetable' is the combo? I'm just curious because I keep seeing bigger and bigger numbers for horsepower ratings (from all over) and it begs the question of how does a person live with the lumpy cam, etc. I'm all for power and the fun that comes with it, but I wonder if I (for one) can live with the idiosyncrasies of a temperamental motor. Shoot, if you have second thoughts, I'll gladly take the parts off your hands Davy
  17. Julian, The '77 car will be legal with the '83 engine since it is considered an upgrade by the State of CA--engine has to be same year as the car or newer. If your '77 has a catalytic converter, you are stuck with one. If, however, it does not have one, you will not need to install one. Why? The State looks at cats as part of the chassis, not then engine. If your chassis does not have one, installing a new one could be hazardous in that the heat from the cat could start a fire inside the car since your chassis has no heat shield for it. The State looks out for us there at least. Davy
  18. Log onto www.jagsthatrun.com and buy the manual for the Z. Read it and then decide what to do. You are asking the right questions, so use the forum search function, baby, and read read read!!! You don't 'need' more than 300hp to have a quick little Z. When you get used to the power, then you can upgrade the motor in the future. Get a good runner made first, then go for the upgrades. My $.02, Davy
  19. Wished I would have never bought the 260Z and just saved up patiently for a 240Z instead--would have saved me so much time and wasted cash that I would have joined the ranks of 'fastest in my town' a long long time ago Davy
  20. Yeah, that would make me feel inferior...NOT! I'm 6'2" and am evenly proportioned such that fitting in the early Z is no big deal--I even have room to spare Davy
  21. Look for Pete Paraska's site (pparaska)--he has detailed information on curing the rust ills in that part of the car, with great pictures too. (At least I think it was Pete's site) Someone correct me if I'm wrong... Davy
  22. The final assembly with the Bullitt wheel looks really tough! Nice work, and thanks for all the info Davy
  23. Miles, Randy in Modesto has a near complete 280Z (suspension anyway) for close to nothing $ just sitting in his side yard. You could pick it up for the price of the tow and use all of it's pieces. I'd pick it up myself except I can't afford to rent a dolly right now! Davy
