  1. I think Lone just hit it on the head: your car will be 'mildly tuned' only, while the Honduh that comes anywhere near what the Z car is, will be an almost all-out race car. What this means is: don't even be intimidated by the "I run 12's with my 1.6L Civic!" crowd. Your Z will inspire confidence in you like no other..shoot, the car will scare you with what it can do, and the Honda will be a mere dot in the rear view. Keep in mind that if you do ever come across a totally juiced Honda, it may stick with you, but it should never trounce you, so don't worry about it and just build your dream. My $.02 Davy
  2. Nice work, Nion! man, that car is coming together really nicely. Davy
  3. Heh, cool! Have fun making it your own 'Z dream car.' Davy
  4. Dan, the new seats really llok good in there...actually, I knew they would, but i wanted to see the final product. If it's ok with you, I'd like to sit in you car at the Rio Vista meet and 'test fit' the seats to see if I want something similar. Davy
  5. Very cool commercial! Davy
  6. Man, that's rich! I could see it all happening too Davy
  7. Paul, I'm really liking the looks of your car right about NOW. Will you be at the MSA Nationals per chance??? Davy
  8. Yeah, I'm listening! For the money I think I would rather give the Americans the money instead of the Japanese tuner companies. Still, it's going to be a while....still need a 240Z first...Mike D(73BOTIZ), are you listening? What excites me is the real possibility of having a unique, good looking wheel that will fill some wide fenders. Shoot, I won't even have to change to a 5 lug pattern after all. Davy
  9. Very sorry to hear about the dog BTW, anyone that thinks 'we' are invading 'their' habitat forgets that we have a right to this planet too---anywhere we darn well please. If you truly believe in evolution, we people are just animals, and since we have evolved to the point of being the master species, then screw everything else--that's the law of Darwinism in it's purest form! Don't bother feeling sorry for the kitty 'cause he'll never know or understand what hit him. Sound harsh? Nope, it's just survival of the fittest! Davy
  10. Hope you didn't trash the motor! Sounds like you did all the right things in getting it to the mechanic. Hope the best for your car. Davy
  11. I just was going to suggest TEC that had a kit for these trucks solving all of the oiling issues (oil line is too close to exhaust pipe and get coked up bad), but I just read your second post saying you can't afford too much for a fix. have you tried talking to Majestic Turbochargers for a rebuilt one? Otherwise, it's junkyard search time Wish I could help you more... Davy
  12. Mike, since you have a set on your car, do you think they would be up to the street??? Any idea? I somehow think John Coffey would say not to do this, but he owns some different brand of racing wheel. Davy
  13. Cody, your ZX is just SICK, Baby! Man I like that car a lot!! Is that an MSA kit?!? And those wheels!!!! You have got one SWEET ride, man. I have been thinking of a 280ZX to commute in--wouldn't mind one that looks like yours! I think one with an LS1 conversion would be the ticket (I'm a V8 guy). Thanks for the pics--I made sure I downloaded them Davy
  14. This tool is some of the best bang for the buck I that I have ever purchased. Now, removing the lower A arms at the junkyard is a possible thing to do. I highly recommend this tool to everyone here!! Dan has been good to do business with Davy
  15. The headers are what do it for me with this kind of thing--they look like they would fit perfectly in the Z (I guess). I have considered doing this using some block-huggers with a 90 degree bend after the collector, but I still have to check the dimensions using my own block-huggers as a guide and mock up the plumbing. Everything else should be doable in terms of fabrication; the EFI manifold (seems easy but will take some time), the fuel rails (almost too easy if you buy some stock from Kinsler, etc) the plumbing/tubing (I'll have to learn to weld, but oh well), intercooler and turbo just cost money...oh yeah, engine management system/SDS...ewww.... See how easy it is?!? Still it's what I want eventually. I have to read Maximum Boost first Davy
  16. Bueller? Chris, you are a lone wolf when it comes to Pontiac engines, man. I admire you for doing it, but I think you'll end up having to answer a lot of your questions. I do like your car! Davy
  17. M, Looks like I was beat to the punch while writing this post... Welcome to the forum! The engine will fit--in fact all SBC engines will fit into a 280ZX because they are all the same dimensionally speaking. Use the search function and look up all the info that has been talked about regarding the 280ZX. Griemann and Ross C have some of the nicest 280ZX conversions I have seen to date, plus both gents are very helpful. Offhand, I'd say you'll need mounts and the driveshaft modified. You might want to purchase the JTR book to guide you through each step of the conversion even thought the manual applies to the 240Z-280Z, not the ZX. As far as the frame is concerned, the ZX has some advantages over the Z and you may or may not want to do it--rely on the info given you by the guys that own the cars. The 383 puts out a lot of torque and some stregthening may be desireable. If the car has T-tops, I would say DEFINITELY do it. My $.02. Cheers, Davy
  18. Cool! I can't wait to get my brackets for that swap. The pics look really good and I bet they'll work better than the old drums Thanks for posting the pics on your site. Davy
  19. Scratch that I just looked at the rest of their site and they are NOT for street use. Bummer. Maybe the 'forged' wheels that are 'coming soon' wheels are up to the task? Davy
  20. Their road racing wheels look pretty darn good. I'm wondering what a 'custom' offset price would be. Either of these would be my choice. I think they look pretty darn cool. I wonder if they can hold up to the rigors of street driving? I'd hate to take one out while hitting a pothole. Davy
  21. Sweet install, Tony! very clean looking. Let us know about the performance figures when you drive it Davy
  22. Welcome to the forum! What is 'easiest' is to find a car with no rust to start with, so you won't be pulling your hair out later on fixing sheetmetal. That said, a car that runs is easier to inspect, because you can drive it--you can see if the suspension and steering are ok, etc. Be warned that the swap cna be done cheaply, but it can be a money pit if you are not careful. These swaps are not for the faint of heart. Buy the JTR manual, if you have not done so already, and read it cover to cover at least twice. That book will put it all in perspective of the necessary steps of this undertaking. www.jagsthatrun.com Good luck, Davy
  23. Stunning looking car, Cody! I just wish the pics were bigger! Davy
  24. Very trick. The gent that owns the orange Z with chrome side pipes has this mod in his car--he claims it works VERY well and he wouldn't do anythign else again. I am partial to this mod and I hope to do this sometime as well. Thanks for the excellent description! Davy
  25. I keep tossing around buying the title to a rusty 240Z and swapping over the Vin#'s and stuff to a 280 roller--not very legal, but a 280Z would actually be the car of choice for me--they are stronger, cheaper, and generally in better condition. Oh well, I'll keep lookin'. Davy
