  1. Don, next time I see you, I would really appreciate a ride in your Z!! I have not gone that fast in a LONG time! I have yet to put my Chevy engine in...but once that happens, I will most likely see about 5 seconds or so 0-60. With better heads, that number will go down to the high fours. I'm pretty sure that this is realistic. Davy
  2. The virus is rampant AND I received an email from a hacker using Mike's email address! ScottieGNZ: I got a Klez email from your account. Word to the wise: GET NORTON NOW. I recieve at least 1 infected email per day, period. Norton knocks 'em out. Symentec stock is looking better and better.... Davy
  3. Thanks for posting all the info, Grumpy, it really helps in the long run!! Davy
  4. A number of members were going to make a FAQ sheet, but life got in the way for a lot of people. The JTR manual is the closest thing to a 'manual' that anyone here has, except for the cool websites that many have put up. JTR for basics, members websites for the details... Davy
  5. Color? Anything you can dream up. More up to date colors look better IMO then the old "orange" paint they used back in the '70's. Davy
  6. We are still STUDS in my opinion Davy
  7. Auxilary, VERY sorry to hear that your car is now blemished. I remember having all the door dings taken out of the Q45 last year, and then having my own little ones open the van door TWICE into my driver's door. They are learning. The Q was bad enough, but it would REALLY hurt if it was a Z. Davy

    aluminum R230?

What is the rear end in the J30? It has the V6 similar to the 300ZX, so I'm wondering if it is also an R230? Maybe R200? Has anyone bothered checking? I'll have to crawl under one next time I'm in the vicinity of one. Would that look wierd? I'll have to ask permission first I suppose... Davy

    Spintech Mufflers

Z ya's car sounds wicked, although not too loud. I wouldn't call it cop bait, but then again, I didn't hear them WOT either. Davy
  10. Now I don't feel so stupid when we were answering that guys question about "how much do these cars weigh?" and saying 2300 to 2400 pounds for a 240Z, when his car had the "2750 lbs GVW" on the hood. I knew it was wrong... We are studs, Aux; let's face the facts Davy
  11. Auxilary's car rides very nicely (stiff, but not too harsh) with the spring rates he just mentioned. Of course, he has also replaced just about every bushing there is, so there are no rattles or 'crashing' noises when going over bumps. Just my $.02. Davy
  12. Just seeing your ride was a real treat in Rio Vista. I have to tell you that you must be at least at 300 RWHP, just by the healthy sound of your engine thru the Spintechs... Please keep us updated, since I'm really curious about your car. I did forget one thing: what tranny are you using? I know your dad was running an auto, but I just can't remember about yours. Grrr. Davy
  13. I enjoyed the read, Lone! Good stories--now how about the truth that the little ricer just plain spanked your butt with his n/a 4 cyl?? lol Man, keep the stories coming, because I love the way you tell 'em!! Heh heh, love it. Email me once in a bloomin' while! Davy
  14. Mike, they look like they were made for the car--really integrate well. Nice job. Davy
  15. Nice collection of toys and all. I like the setups--all of them, including the lawn mower!! Davy
  16. If you are running a 1st gen Z, you're going to beat them at their own game N/A I would think. Still, a force fed big cube SBC would do the unthinkable---you should be capable of space travel or something close to it. Chassis set up would ba a major concern. Nothing wrong with a solid rear axel, but just make sure you car is set up for speed, especially if you race a Supra hon the highway. We are talking 150mph+ or something like that I'm sure. Right? Good luck with the project and just make sure all of that power can get to the ground. My next engine will be a big cube SBC with a turbo(s). I would put money on your car if it is anything like I think it could be. Have fun trashing Supras. Davy
  17. Ron Tyler's site is a great place for info--thanks for posting that link, DRK! Davy
  18. If it doesn't absorb water, it would be the bomb to fill up the pillars and rockers. More research on our end is needed--sorry, but magazine articles have to be taken with a grain of salt Still, the stuff seems fairly inexpensive. I'll look into the stuff when I'm ready to do chassis work. Davy
  19. Craig, Great to have you on board! As far as what radiator to put in, the JTR book should have that info--you can also put in a Griffin or Howe unit from Summit Racing. Use the search function on the forum to locate the topics you need info from. The Chevy forum is sort oof a 'catch all' forum unfortunately, but that is NOT where all of the info resides. Try some of the other forums as well to get radiator info. Hope this helps. Davy
  20. Tellie, If you are planning a GM motor swap from a Holden, buy this manual, then fabricate the parts yourself (very easy to do). It is perhaps the best 'kit' going right now, and certainly the best manual overall. Hope this helps. www.jagsthatrun.com Davy
  21. When batter acid gets under the insulation in the battery cables, it causes serious gremlins and you'd never know until you replace the cables. I'm pretty sure yours is an alternator problem, but pay some close attention to the cables---take a good look. If they look questionable, replac them. Otherwise, hopefully you'll get away with just an alternator change. Davy
  22. It is true that a turbo or a swap to a V8 will give better, more reliable power. However, if you feel like spending money on the N/A L6, then you can do some minor tuning things like: bigger throttle body, ram air intake, high performance ignition, headers, 2.25" to 2.5" exhaust system with performance muffler, K&N air filter, etc. All these things will make a difference, but won't be nearly as effective unless you throw something like bumping compression, going to a more radical camshaft, having the head ported, etc. into the mix. Keep in mind that you should add up the costs of doing these things and then compare the figure to a V8 swap. The $$$ difference may surprise you; that's why so many guys on this forum have gone to Turbo 280ZX engine swaps, Turbo Buick V6 swaps, and assorted V8 swaps. Use the search function to look up all the information on what you want, and most of all, welcome to the forum!! Davy

    oh boy

Good kill. Now get your car tuned properly and you'll nail him even better. Why do I say this? Because your exhaust is spewing black smoke, and not just a bit either. I think your car needs a proper tune using an exhaust analyzer or something...look into it, and that would make it just that much faster.... Davy
  24. I suppose anything is legal as long as it complies with smog and noise restrictions... He came by my work and did a long burnout in front of the office (tire marks are still there) with those open pipes...man, I have to tell you it was like being at the dragstrip...made you want to buy earplugs. Can you say loud? Davy
