  1. Thats too bad about it not being smog exempt, what is the cut off year? I'm not sure of laws in Cali but I know they are very strict. Could you do a l28et swap because its a very simliar motor? I don't know how they test cars over there... The 2+2 is a good little car, I honestly like the lines of the coupe better but having the back seats and extra space does come in handy. I actually daily drove mine for a year and was able to drive plenty of people/stuff around! It being a rhd car would present problems exactly like you said. Being in the northeast parts are hard enough to find for classic Z's in general, making it rhd would make it even harder imho.
  2. Great to have you back Jake! I've followed your builds and they've always been an inspiration to me. Also 2+2 power! I've got a '76 280z 2+2 with a l28et swap. I'm torn between going with a rb25 swap or building my current L28et setup.
  3. Weird I had a dream last night that I tried the 10mm x 1.25s and they fit! Tried them out this morning quickly before work and sadly that was not the case... *sigh back to the drawing board.
  4. I'll try cleaning up the threads some more. I already hit it with a ton of pb blaster, maybe I'll try some vinegar and coke solutions... The weird part is my 1976 280z 2+2 bumper mount bolts are 10mm x 1.0mm bolts whereas everywhere else I've seen they are 10mm x 1.25... Color me confused, hopefully cleaning up the bolts will work otherwise I'll have to find some "magic" bolts like bfg.
  5. Hey all I'm planning on mounting a 240z bumper to my 280z. I've got the brackets figured out but I can't for the life of me find out the nut size of the bumper studs. I've looked for the 240z bumper nut sizes and have gotten different responses for different year bumpers. I've heard some bumpers are 10mm 1.5 pitch, 10mm 1.25 pitch or 10mm 1.0 pitch I went to the local hardware store and bought both 10mm 1.25 and 10mm 1.0 pitch bolts and they dont seem to fit. Can anyone chime in and possibly identify which bolts I need? I'm pretty sure its not the 10mm 1.5 pitch nuts as the threads seem very close on the bolts. Here are some pics for reference, the 10mm x 1.25 sort of thread but just stop and I dont want to strip the bolts as then I'll be sol... Any help?
  6. I finally got the rusty original airdam off... while breaking the rusted driver side fender tabs off in the process... *sigh I got creative and was able to bolt the air dam secure in some other spots and ended up zip tieing the sides to the fenders Because racecar right Rebekah? Went on the highway and it held up fine with no issues, next up is the 240z bumper.
  7. Hey all I know its super last minute but my friends and I decided to go to the UTI Norwood meet tomorrow. https://www.uti.edu/campus-locations/boston/event/eventid/2198/returntab/605 Its for a good cause and its supposed to be a nice day for a cruise tomorrow. My car is actually on jackstands undergoing the 240z airdam and bumper change so hopefully I can get those done before I go. My friends and I will probably meet up around 4ish and then head over. Anyone is more than welcome to come cruise over with us. Feel free to shoot me an email patsito@gmail.com I hope people can make it tomorrow!
  8. Trying to put a 240z airdamn on my 280z but the fender mount points are pretty rusted. I pb blastered the crap out of them but its not looking good... Am I sol and need to get new fenders since the air dam mounts there?
  9. Time to get these meets up and running! I'm heading to Street night tomorrow at New England dragway with some friends. I'd be nice to see some other Z guys if anyones available! http://www.newenglanddragway.com/index.php?option=com_jevents&task=icalrepeat.detail&evid=90&Itemid=118&year=2013&month=06&day=05&title=street-night-wednesday&uid=c1444e7111c079ded18e4611f09a1ece
  10. Just something to look at, I was browsing Zilvias for sale forum and came across this. http://zilvia.net/f/cars-sale/519206-fs-jdm-1976-datsun-fairlady-280z-2-2-rhd.html The thing looks darn pristine, wouldn't take much at all I'd think to restore her to original running condition. Look at all those JDM bits!
  11. Got my radio reinstalled and cleaned up some more wiring. I can finally listen to some music in the Z!
  12. Pulled her out of the garage yesterday (first time since winter storage) and gave her a nice wash. Also Took care of some electrical gremlins and drove her around a bit.
  13. Tried to take her out for a spin last sunday, as soon as I pulled her out of the garage she started leaking fuel. Turns out the rubber fuel line at the fuel filter had dried and cracked over the winter. Ran to the parts store and picked up some fuel line and replaced all the pieces. Didn't get to drive her though
  14. Hey LanceVance I think I'm all set as borini has one. Thanks for the offer though I appreciate it!
  15. Hate to bump an old thread but I still need an alternator bracket. Does anyone have one?
  16. My first z '77 280z was repainted British racing green. My gf at the time named him Gumby and it stuck. My current silver '76 280z 2+2 currently doesn't have a name... Suggestions?
  17. Hey B&G Try A&C imports they specalize in Z's and are located in Bedford NH. http://www.acimportsllc.com/ I haven't taken my z to them personally yet but I've heard good things about them. I've spoken to them them a few times about potential work/prices on my Z and they seemed very friendly/knowledgeble. They're also part of ZCCNE (Z car club of new england)
  18. My God, 420hp at 9krpm/10krpm redline? 289ft/lbs at 8krpm? I never ever thought a NA L series would be capable of that power... I wish I could hear this motor in person it must sing.
  19. Looks pretty solid, whats asking price? It looks like its driveable but definitely needs work. That rats nest of wiring would drive me nuts and I wouldn't be able to drive it until I took care of at least that.
  20. No worries it sucks that it happened but I just have to look at it as a mixed blessing. End of one chapter and start of another. I work in IT, operations mostly system admin type stuff.
  21. No worries Tuff next time... although this might have turned out for the best as I have some bad news of my own to share. Bit of a tangent nothing happened to my Z but I just got laid off which will defnitely impact my plans for my Z... Hopefully I'll be able to find another job soon but the state of the economy still worries me

    Sad day

Sorry to hear what happened and glad you're ok. From what I was reading I thought it was alot worse than what it initially looked like in the pictures. Not saying its not bad as it seems theres more than body damage unfortunatly. I hate to see anything bad happen to our Z's. It seems like they're starting to become endangered species but the big bumpers really took quite a bit of the damage. I've seen slim bumper swapped Z's rear ended before and the entire hatch itself can cave in... This really makes me rethink swapping out my rear fat bumper... the slim bumpers look great but offer zero protection. One of my greatest worries is being rear ended since I live in a not-so-great driving state... Your car is also the same color as my car Lets hope its repairable and will be back on the road soon!
  23. Also glad to hear you're ok, cars are precious but can be replaced while the occupants can't be. You also sound like an awesome insurance company customer. My close friends family owns an insurance company and I hear so many stories of how people don't have their paperwork or in general their sh*t together... Well said LanceVance the other driver seems like a real piece of work... What part of Mass will you be in? If you're close to Boston let me know I'll buy a round!
  24. That boost hits hard! Haha looks like an awesome time phil. Your car is one of the biggest reasons why I can't decide on either a rebuilt l28et or rb25 swap...
