  1. I didnt know if I was just tricking myself but I also noticed a little worse mileage in my rav4. Just seemed to empty faster. I also thought it might be the ethanol % but it still says 10%.

    Its just you....:fmad:.....keep looking behind.....

79.3/liter for reg today.....91.3 for premium. I wish it would ride below 60/L for old time sake....better yet I remember $0.30/L..never mind, showing my age.

  2. Try harder to find a running replacement engine.

Do you have a flat and hard surface to lift the car up on jack stands? If not it will be tough to lift the engine out with that tranny attached. Its easier to remove both seperately. Tranny down, Engine up.

Start to remove the intake and exhaust manifold... the rad (drain it first)....alternator ...starter. Bag all the bolts and label well...and keep with the parts. Remove all wires to the engine and tag. Remove the driveshaft..(drain the tranny oil first). disconnect the speedo cable from the tranny. Remove the center console...and take out the shifter. Be VERY organized. Clean up the parts if you have time or the inclination.

    Etc...etc...etc

Oh ya....try harder to find a running engine.

Its how I learned, while the book is handy, steady methodical appraoch will work best. Its the digital age so take a Khajllion (more than a billion) pictures for reference.

Expect to stay VERY busy for a while. When its all done ...it will be a love hate kind of thing. Now GO , start and keep us informed! Stop wasting time.

Ah, well I'm wondering what I could do at LEAST before my book comes in...
  3. A budy of mine completed a pro street camaro and did something like that. When he was done it looked exactly like a stock quarter panel...just way bigger. I think he called it a sectioned panel and he used 2 to build one.

Takes a lot of time but it was well worth it.

The guy is welding without a shield!?!

  4. An extra bung is already welded to the downpipe for a wideband...I just need to find a cheap one.

I have a couple of used intercoolers...I still have lots of time before spring, just need to modiy them for 2.5 inch tubing. One is a small but thick compact unit that fits very well horizontaly into the front well..well ahead of the tire. I think its from a SR or perhaps a Syline...the other is a Tbird unit that would need to go up front...buts its pretty heavy.

This particular tech is reliable...but I hear ya.

175 would be great....perhaps with an intercooler and some boost 200 would be possible?

    Thanx.

Jerry - Don't rely on Nissan Techs...without an intercooler, your best friend here is a Wideband to know exactly how things are running.

Looks great and I am sure 175whp is very attainable at 6psi.

    Regards - Yasin

  5. I know its not Z related but Im all worked up......Its running....my budget 89 turbo upgraded KA24e SX.

Stock block with emissions removed, log manifold,Z31 turbo , arc BOV, home made down pipe, 2.5 inch home made exhaust......no engine management...no intercooler.

Starts OK but needs help to keep the revs up for a minute until it warms up, then it idles perfectly at 700. Revs right to red line and backfires very little at let off. SOUNDS GREAT.

The Nissan techs tell me the stock ECU is good for about 6PSI before the fuel starts to run out. I have an old emanage that I may install for some trickery and have a 92 STANZ ECU on its way that will give me OBD1 capability. I also have an old adjustable FPR that I will install for increased injector pressure/flow.

    All comments welcome!

Sorry about the crappy pics...cell phone!

  6. After 3 weekends of cutting, welding and fitting I finaly replaced the stock cloth 240SX seats with leather infinity seats. This is a track car used only for lapping days so hard core racing seats are not required.

The passenger seat is fixed while the driver seat is on tracks...little high but I have about an inch of space between my helmet and the roof.

Pretty comfy for a track car......what do ya think?

One question....the drivers seat is bolted to the floor...how thick and what size should I place below the floor to prevent the bolts from tearing through in case of a mishap?

  7. This situation is like mine when I bought me first Z.... 27 years ago. ( that hurts) I knew nothing...get ready to ride the learning curve.

You need to pop the head off in order to determine the exact problem.

And no...you dont go out and buy 1 valve...I guess you can ....but normal procedure is a head rebuild. If one valve is shot ...good chance other will go as well.

  8. Perhaps commucincation could have been better.

It's not all talk. I know exactly how difficult it is to make CF parts because I have a lot of experience in the aircraft industry. The reason nothing ever happened was because nobody showed enough interest in one part. Everybody wanted one of this or that. I'd love to make parts for Z cars, but I can't justify making just one or two of something.
  9. String setups in general are not hokey. I'm going to try to figure out a string setup myself. My problem is that I never really understood how you get the strings parallel to the centerline of the car.

I found this on ebay.....seems like a decent string setup. I asked him to explian how to parallel the strings to the centerline of the car.

  10. So no one has used the Fastrax gauge? I'm seriously thinking of getting one.

Did you get it? Im having the same dilema...fasttrax or smart camber:icon5: I need it for my Z and SX.....as both have adjustable suspension components and I would prefer to buy the tools once rather than pay to have someone do it for me..... I like the idea of digital vs bubble....??

edit..... then I found this.. http://www.paragon-products.com/product_p/lr_78295.htm

edit 2...and now tis econo version http://www.speedwaymotors.com/ECONOMY-CASTER-and-CAMBER-GAUGE,2699.html

  11. That's pretty cool! I'd be afraid of it tipping over though.

Im not real warm and fuzzy on the lift version. I would never remove the hoist!

On the pivot version why not extend and beef up the top portion of the pivot plates to create a built in stop. When the stop contacts the ground your done. That way you dont need that center 2x4 and there is no worry about over pivoting.

goldfish.....its cheaper alternative. wood and bolts vs Two stands + the extra bracing steel. This is a very econo alternative, not as convienent as a true rotissory but if your project doesnt require a lot of work then why spend the money. not perfect but a cool idea. Plans saved to hard drive!

    Thanks for sharing.
