  1. i guess im reseructing an old thread here, but does anyone have pictures of a broken halfshaft??? preferrably the earlier, u-joint style, halfshafts... is it always the u-joints that let go, or do they ever break in the middle??? thanks
  2. i was hoping someone might hav an exploded diagram of the 5 speed behind the z32TT and the 5 speed behind the VG30 D21 pickup. what differences, if any, is there between the z32 TT tranies and the z32 NA transmissions?. what i want to do is put the bellhousing half from the TT tranny on the front of the D21 trans... im hoping imput shafts are the same length, and the internals, lol... ive been told they are more or less the same tranny, internally... any help is much appreciated, thanks... ryan~
  3. thats more or less kinda what i fashioned on my tank, except w/ weld in AN bungs, one for pickup, and one for return for the day i eventually go fuel injection... as for the coating, ya, i think im gona skip that... im just gona clean up the inside best i can, seal it off w/ a new sending unit in top, and make sure i hav a good fuel filter in front of the pump... =) ryan~
  4. well, i hav pics posted in the gallery, but i cant seem to figure out how to get them here... anyways http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=13074 hopefully that gives an idea of wat im doin... ryan~
  5. 5" of material added to low sides of tank
  6. welded to -8 AN bung, in tank
  7. welded to -8 AN bung
  8. i took some pics, but they are way to huge and i cant seem to find a way to shrink them, or post them, prolly due to me being computer illiterate.. and i came across a question while thinking about my tank, and was wondering if anyone knows how much wieght the stock fuel tank straps could hold... i thnk it will be fine, but was just a concern w/ the extra 5 or so gallons the tank will hold...
  9. update: progress has been slow... so after i cutt off the top of the low side of the tank, i hav now bent/formed a piece of 16ga, 5"tall, to go around for the 'wall'... so now one side is only about an inch lower than the other, wich will force me to cut out the spart tire well for tank space, wich i was gona do anyways for the exhaust... i bought some 'weld in' 8-AN fittings, 1 for my pickup/feed line, and the other for a return for when i get around to doing fuel injection... i TIGGed a short piece of 3/8" ID stainless tubing to the 'feed' AN fitting, and bent it so it sat in the bottom of the tank, just about where the factory one was... i welded them both in about half way up, and pretty much in the middle/front of the tank... i was originally going to use the stock sending unit, but i veto'ed that idea in favor of having one i could work with easier... so the summit sending unit will go in the top when i weld that piece in, wich is the next step. and im also debating weather or not to make an 'access panel' for the top, but if all goes well, i see no reason why i should have to get back into the tank again... anyways, its much larger now. one of these days ill hav to see how much it will hold... oh, and i eliminated all the vent lines but the one that runs back to the filler neck... ryan~ =)
  10. no, i havnt gotten that far yet. i was just curious cause ive heard the ford racks have a twitchy feel to them w/ the gm type II pumps, cuase of excess pressure, or flow i should say... anyways, thanks for the heads up though. im just now fitting the rack, i still need to mock the engine in and check clearances, weld in the motormounts, etc...
  11. are you guys using the GM pumps to run the suby racks??? and if so, are you getting a 'twitchy' feel or is it overreactive???
  12. well, ive long since had the lines made up, but i ended up 'brazing' -AN fittings on instead. the two pressure lines on the rack ran me right near 100 bucks!!! no pics as of yet, i really need to invest into a digital camera... progress has been slow latly...
  13. might as well spend your money while your here, you'll notice that there isnt usually a luggage rack on a hurs(spelling?)
  14. I am assuming that this is two air dam's, just wondering which two?? Can anyone help???
  15. oooh, looks like vortec heads too, should be nice, keep us updated! =)
  16. good point strotter. i think JTR states in their manual that u can do the 'swap' for $3ooo sumtin, and originally at first i was thinking "heck, i can do it for way less!". but by the time i got things together, engine, tranny, misc hardware, radiator, engine parasites, etc etc., it added up to more than i thought, and actually spent $4000ish give/take (more give than take most likly, lol) to get it into driving condition... it was amazing how much nuts, bolts, steel, cables, and other stupid nick nak stuff added up... course, if i had put a stock rebuilt 700r4 in i could hav saved $500... good luck on ur swap though!!! =)
  17. geesh, u should be able to pick up a rebuilt 700R4 for 700$, give or take a bit... i had one built for high horsepower on my first v-8 install, and it cost me 1200$... so over here i see em all day for less... and as far as the turbo 400 goes, ive never had one in a Z, but i sure was happy to have the overdrive on the R4 when it came to driving on the freeway...
  18. im finding out that getting the subaru lines to fit is a stretch, i thought i could take them to like a brake line place and get them made up, but no luck gettin those subaru fittings in my area. sooooo, i im gona cutt the lines just after the subaru fittings and braze on new fittings that will allow me to go to 1/8mpt braided stainless, this will be costly, but it will look cleaner and be easier to route.. that and i still have to adapt to the GM pump, but i havnt gotten that far yet... i need to remember to take pictures too, ha...
  19. well, it will be a good expiriment then =) and yes, its the same pump, LT1 style, mine came off a capri... the bypass pressure between the impreza pump and the capri type II pump are a lil different, but im gona hope that it doesnt create an issue... i just have to get the new hydraulic lines fabb'd up and give a whirl i guess...
  20. has anyone tried to use a GM type-II power steering pump(remote resivor) with the subaru rack???
  21. heh, well since most of the top of the tank is gone, its easy to see inside for me, and mine is in pretty good shape... but the interisting part of when i opened er up, is the handful of pebbles inside the tank. at first i thought someone musta just put them down the tank cause they didnt like one of the previous owners or sumtin. but a couple of other pple told me that in the older days they used to put some rocks in the tank to keep rust from forming on the bottom of the tank. well i cant say for sure, but i thought it was interisting... rocks, lol...
  22. man, im in the wrong buisness!!! 500 buks eh?? i came to the same conslusion regarding the 'wanting larger feed/return lines'. originally i was going to build a fuel cell, but after dropping the tank, i was looking at it, and thinking, 'geesh, its already set up w/ the mounting straps, filler neck, sending unit, so im going to modify it'.... so i decided to cut the top off the low end, and build it up, while installing a AN- fitting for my pickup and a new pickup tube... and after looking at my progress, i figure it will add 5/7gallons capacity to the tank, wich will also be nice in my situation...
  23. check for older Recaro (spelling?) seats out of VW/BMW/european cars/etc, they fit w/ room and hold on to u tight and fit nicly... i personally (hence not beain able to find the recaro's i would find suitable), used the seats out of my AE 300zx, but any z31 seat should work. they will barly fit, just at the bottom in the back, but the rest of the seat is fine, and is farly comfortable, even on long drives. and u hav the creature comforts of the inflatable air bags in the seat along the sides, lumbar, and at the front of the seats, and newer ones hav motors for adjustment, front to bak, up/down, etc... if u happen to find the AE seats, they hav 8 speakers built into them, part of the 'body sonic system' in the AE's. so thats just kudos if ur into soundsystems, but odderwise it shouldnt make much difference. and pardon my abuse of english, lol.. to many years of Instant messaging has ruined all my english teachers work from long ago... haha... in ne case, good luck on seat hunting for watever u end uup goin with... =) ryan
  24. i hav a magnaflow on my v8 Z and it creates a nice mellow low tone, w/ almost no resonance, wich is nice, much better than the 3.5" single chamber flowmaster i had on it b4, that would rattle ur teeth.. only complaint i hav w/ the magna is that its almost to mellow, i would like a lil more tone defination, a lil more rumble out of the pipe... but if ur runnin a L6, i would say run a dynomax round race series muffler, sounds awesome, specially on a datsun L series. has a nice low bassy tone round idle, and raps up a bit at higher rpm's, but doesnt sound like a rice maching, it has a nice mix of everyting u mite want in an exhaust note, and its a straight through muffler, so would work great on a force inducted vehicle... ~®~
