  1. &^^^$Y$*%^^(^*&^*&^&^*^&^(*%& i was sent the wrong brake pads!!!!! rear wheel studs are loose......but that can be fixed momentarily!!!!
  2. Today's work.... I have no idea why it's upside down. Hope it doesn't fall off the lift...
  3. Morning Everyone, My son asked again, "when will the Z be running? cuz I'm busy this Sunday." It's exciting to relive some of my past Z car life and I'm probably having a case of mid-life crisis, if anything. My common sense tells me that there are too many old and worn out components to feel any comfort at all. By all means, I did not assemble a show car and if I had the time/space etc..... I would have taken the entire underside of the car apart and cleaned up everything. With the reasonable cost of aftermarket parts- why not!? It's cheaper and faster to just install those and save yourself weeks of waiting for powder coating etc.... Who know, maybe I'll do that down the line. Will try to get the fuel filter and pump installed before moving on for the rest of the afternoon with regular business. Which is the best interior carpet kit? I know that some of the insulation is original and that stuff looks like a chunk of house insulation that's sandwiched together and hair sprayed together.......
  4. Thanks,Ryan. Part of my idea of resto-mods. Are Correcting some of the old parts to newer components and materials: brakes, stainless steel steel Exhaust, modern seat belts and in a month power steering. For a lowered z car with wide wheels, it's a must have. After we removed the fuel tank for repair, we noted that the hoses needed repair due to age. I've never thought much about the functionality of the evap. system till yesterday. I can see that the evap tank was repaired at one time as well, so more than likely that's why z cars often have heavy fumes. The hoses running inside the interior make no sense and everything I researched made no sense either. The fittings on the fuel tank are below the high point, so fuel has no choice but to slosh theough the hoses upon turning. That can't be good. And, If you get rear ended, the fuel has no choice but to push into the hoses and leak into the interior. I can't put much time into the car today. I've got tons of work to do. We have to replace master/clutch slave, install exhaust, one heater hose ,new wheels and tires, alignment, Brake master upgrade and big brake kit. For now, I'll Do everything necessary to Get motor started.
  5. I have an nda signed with some large companies that do not allow video. But, I did allow a hybrid z member to take pics. Recently. Would you like to see his photographs?
  6. I literally have thousands of pics. of the fabrication etc.... Even cars at Barrett Jackson, Championship Race Cars etc.......some cars are fabrication, others are engines and tuning. Here are some carbon panels. We vacuum bag and also set up for pre-preg. To tool and make one single panel is BIG $$$$$$ and not for the faint of heart or wallet.
  7. Thanks, Andy!!! Here's another kind of plenum we've made- I have a feeling that I will need to fabricate one for my turbo Z or use the early 280z plenum with less emissions, which I think I have one. The current turbo Z is sheet metal wrapped in carbon fiber. Made it over 20+ years ago. Around it is a thermal jacket that is custom fitted. UGGGGGLYYYYY...... Time...no time at all...... I probably have a few more pics. if anyone wants to see...
  8. well......today marks the 3rd week on this project and subsequently opening up an entire can of Z-worms in the warehouse. Originally, I only wanted to spend no more than a week, but after looking at all the original old parts that need replacement and unexpected happenings, it's still going rather smoothly. No doubt I over spent on everything, but I learned a lot about Z's and met a bunch of cool people, so it's all worth it- Things happen for a reason! However, I have my priorities during the day and a HUGE project that we need the next 3 months to completely focus, so I'm a little in panic, since this car isn't part of my profession. Time....if only I had more.....
  9. basically all the old parts are now replaced and simple while effectively working like the factory. The fact that there aren't 40+ year old fuel fluid/vapor hose across the rear tail light section makes me feel a LOT better; the same reason I'm replacing brakes.
  10. should have the fuel system mods. completed shortly, then fuel tank will be reinstalled. I'm confident that this will work. It's basically the same system that's used on my race car and I've never had any difficulties with overflow/evap. The 240z evap/overflow and hoses are probably one of the reasons the interior smells of fuel sometimes. One leak and the cabin will fill with vapor easily. IMO, everyone needs to get rid of the factory system!!! Running fuel across the interior of the rear clam is just a bad idea, IMO. With any left or right turn, there's no way to prevent fuel from running up the evap. hoses on either side of the tank. Those hoses are now eliminated.
  11. installed.... nice and simple.... i hope i'm right!
  12. fabricated the T for the fuel evap system. Essentially the factory system is still intact, but much simplier hose routing.....
  13. I have a plan on the Big Red Z, but I'm certain that the intake will explode when I try. Made this plenum MANY years ago for a customer and may need to revisit this shortly...... I've got more pics. of this if anyone wants to see....
  14. moving forward and evap system, time for some more modern parts... going to simplify the system and continue to use most of the original design. installing this vent valve which will open when there is more pressure on one side to handle gas expansion. In addition, since it's closed when there isn't pressure, my garage hopefully won't smell of gas fumes from fumes dumping into atmosphere.....
  15. probably the first time this has ever been removed.....yuck!!!
  16. the 240z fuel evap system is interesting. I understand that it's to let air escape out of the fuel tank so it can be filled to the top and during a warm day when fuel expands there's room for the growth. trying to understand why the port is below the fuel line. Wouldn't that mean fuel would be in the line sloshing around in the hoses that lead to the evap canister? Going to simplify the system a little and hope it works......
  17. Fuel tank installed. Also, Ordered front and rear tow hooks..... JUST incase!!!!
