  1. pretty awesome,Phantom!!! Sounds like quite the build you have/had. The Z is actually refreshing in a way. Lots of information and aside from exhaust, I don't have to fabricate that much for this build. It's just that having a car sit for so long brings up everything else that you'd never think of. I hope to at minimum complete the differential and RT mount tomorrow. I have a feeling that once it's running, I'll have a round two that begins with the brakes etc.... my alignment rack is full right now, so aside from bump steer spacers, I don't want to get into anything more if I can avoid it at this point and time...
  2. i should have the spur gears by tomorrow morning. If I can get a few hours in, I should be able to remove the diff. replace gears and reinstall with the new R/T Mount..... Progress!!!!
  3. The weather has been very nice, especially the mornings. I'm working out of home this morning and there's a somewhat local Datsun swap meet, but I can't make it. Every Sunday, a few of my neighbors start up their V8's and head out for the morning. They've got camaros, vettes, ac cobra replicas etc......who knows, maybe next week, I can do the same. Cars and Coffee is literally 3 minutes from my residence...... I think after it's running, I'll just start shopping for more parts as life goes by......seems reasonable enough........ The Big Red Widebody Z I have scares me...it's a lot of work and if I get into that, there may be a point of no return......must be careful. The parts that are available since I stopped working on Z cars is amazing and made my life so much easier. I'm so used to building every single part and piece...
  4. i'm going to buy one of those jdm replica air dams. the black gnose is modeled after an IMSA style. I've had this for many years...needs some tlc....I think I'm going to use the white one. I've found all the hardware and can make all the mounting brackets...... it's not easy to fit...i bolted the headlight extensions and center section together......this FRP is a bit thin as well....not sure I trust it....
  5. I see a lot of people asking for carbon dash and console. why not just hydro dip it for that carbon look? or maybe at minimum a carbon dash cap? thoughts?
  6. he got back to me. doesn't stock anything and located in San Diego. I'm down that way from time to time....I'll go visit...
  7. wow!!!!! people go through a ton to make a living. I was really hoping that there was a real market for these parts.....
  8. looks like I have a gear box to work with.......I know that there are other gear boxes, but I just don't have the time to do all the machining to make it all work.....I seem to always have too many projects at one time and need to focus....... now if I just had a fuel tank....... ordered new fuel filter assembly and should have that all sorted out with little difficulty....famous last words.
  9. well......while working at home.....the R/T style diff. mount arrived. I also purchased the other mount as well. Now I just have to figure out how it's installed.....shouldn't be too difficult....but then again, that's what I said two weeks ago.......
  10. Thanks Phantom! In all honesty, I should have expected more problems than less. It sat since 2003 and stuff wears down. I have a huge project that we should be working on this very minute, but when I entered the warehouse, all I saw was part of my life that I shoved underneath a car cover; maybe just a little work and I could at minimum get the motor back in. I tunnel visioned myself and said that after all these decades of being a Z enthusiast, I would get one car together. Lost parts, lost bolts and trying to get my brain back into Z mode were the first parts. Then every vendor I used and all efforts I spent running around for days got me 4 steps back. All I could say to myself, "what have I gotten myself into and should I keep going?" The deeper I looked, the more work there was: busted seat belts, no rear bumper, rear panels off, wrong size wheels/tires, wrong size exhaust and whatever else........ I just learned that nothing is simple as it seems......and it's my car, not someone elses...... Moving foward- 1. Gas tank will be end of the week. 2. r180 will arrive this week and I'll remove the diff. again and swap out spur gears, then shafts should fit. Resinstall transmission and modify tunnel for shifter (never did this before and want to get it correct this time) 3. repair throttle cable 4. backing plate for throttle bodies (lost it) 5. brakes - maybe I'll upgrade......(and again...this is my problem and always has been. I just can't leave things alone. My philosphy is that if it ain't broke, upgrade it). 6. Dyno tune. I can do it.....it's just more time than I wanted to spend.....and then there's the other 99% after it's running......
  11. I found this on the net.... I'm not that bad...just irritated..... I can't wait to get on the dyno!!!! Kinda fun shopping for hard-to-find parts ---
  12. Thanks! Shot him an email. He doesn't have. Phone number or address in his website....
  13. is this company around? I like the parts, especially the airdam and cowl; i've got more ambition than time......so far, this website has saved me quite a bit of time....
  14. thanks! I'm glad it's Friday! Need a break. I rebuilt the fuel tank years ago. Well......when they welded it together, the liner melted off and fell into the tank......then local Z car shop got the wrong trans. and I had to fend for myself, which I don't have all the time in the world.....had a guy go and pick it up and wasted his time as well.... Once I get the R180, I can switch side gears and make the bolt type axles work, I hope.
  15. I am soooooo frustrated and irritated..............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. well.....gas tank won't be ready for a week......... hmmmmmmm.............maybe I should have left this in the warehouse......
  17. thanks, John! And, thanks for the email yesterday. I purchased a used R180 and will replace the side gears to make it all work. This is mainly for my own cars. We build full panels for purpose built race cars etc......That market is able to sustain and we don't have so much of a reach for ROI. Here you can see wet lay up and vacuum bag part for a large project we have currently. I spoke to my front desk man about his conversation with Datsun Z Fiberglass- One man shop with too many orders- plain and simple.
  18. kevin, matt and I are chatting on FB already. A long time ago, I did own all of the IMSA widebody Z molds. And, the Gnose along with it. My Z life seems to be coming full circle some how......
  19. sovereign Z, thank you. it's embarrassing honestly. All this stuff and it's everywhere.......... I'm trying to make something out of it at this point in my life...... maybe mid-life crisis... you should see all the other cars in there...i just don't want to post on the internet....
  20. pulled this out of the warehouse just now... going to clean it up and primer coat.....
  21. Since I am restoring a few z cars, we ended up contacting him. He answered his phone and told us about his business. I did not order anything as I know these types of small businesses too well. Is there really a market for z car fiberglass/carbon parts? The reason I ask is that I could do this. I've for a full shop, employees etc..... But it has to be worth my time since I have a ton of work....
