  1. I hope you all had a great weekend. I'm the only car person in my family and I was not-so-aware of this till yesterday. I've owned the Z cars longer than I've been married. They are older than my kids and my sons have NEVER seen them. I asked my youngest what he thought about old cars and he thought they were cool. This morning he asked when they would be running and I'm very surprised because next to the red z is my latest build which is one of the reasons that I had to get a minimum of one car together- I'M OUT OF ROOM.
  2. Happy Monday! Fuel tank has arrived!
  3. If I can get the Red Z side profile like this, I'll be happy. I'm going to have a custom set of wheels built in 17"? maybe 18"? but I don't think Z cars look good with 18" wheels and in 16" there aren't that many tire options for 11"F and 13"R.
  4. i think this was 20 years ago....maybe longer.....
  5. Nearly finished new seat belt install. Also, found my old school boost controller--
  6. Maybe this will be my new spoiler for Big Red....
  7. My kids aren't car kids....... Sorta.......my youngest asked when we would drive around in the old cars- that surprised me! I told him that we don't have seat belts yet and he offered to help install them. I could have them on in another hour or so, so I'll leave him free to watch soccer today.....
  8. Dust-off!!!! Designed this engine package 20 Years ago. Billet crankshaft, 20 year old turbo technology.... And 20 year old dust.....
  9. thanks! No matter what I do, the pics. are some times upside down....on other forums, they work...... sorry about that....
  10. Ever see a robotics competition? It's intense!!!
  11. Morning all, Well.... No z today..... At my son's robotics competition..... I now recall the boost control for the turbo z was a apexi programmable type. Nowadays, the modern standalone's use a simple solenoid and integrated to the PCM. Oh well, can't expect much for 20 year old technology. The seatbelts only got 25% installed..... I now know how to do it.....
  12. it's feel odd to work on a car (red z)that you've owned for more than half your life. it was dusty, really dusty..... I really want to see what's the difference between 20 year old turbos and the latest and greatest. I think I'll just blow off the dust, clean up the engine and get on the dyno.
  13. FWIW, I decided to make 10 exhaust systems. 850.00 to the first 3 buyers, then it goes up to 935.00. I will add vband flanges so that it's 3 pieces next week, then reverse engineer it.
  14. seat belt install....... I HOPE this is easy.......
  15. Light weight exhaust materials....
  16. Fabricating a new harness for the red z.... Why? I dunno....
  17. i think it best to remove the entire drive train, exhaust, intercooler, fuel system, fuel tank and get it all up to date in another chassis...honestly.... I recall making 400whp @ 15psi 20+ years ago. I know with some more tweaking and new turbo technology....maybe another 100hp.... or maybe I should pretend I didn't see it and just walk away.... last week I saw a very nice 240z with original paint etc... all it needed was an engine. it had nice original paint as well, but I already have orange and didn't want a second.....should have bought it!
  18. opened up the ecu for the red car. it's pretty old.....may need an update or new computer..... time to make some calls...
  19. sad sight- not sure what to do. took these pics. this morning....... once this car was very bright red and running.....now....uhhhhggggg
  20. it's been so long. i'm certain that this has been sitting for 16+ years. This has a 3316cc l28 turbo engine. I've forgotten even which ecu I used way back in my hay-day. I doubt that company is around anymore......This would require an entirely different level of restoration........not sure am I brave enough to attempt it. Sometimes you can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I feel that this one may just open an entire can of worms if I even give it the thought. The engine bay is all there, the turbo parts are in a box, dash sitting against a wall and complete interior is stripped out. Why would I even consider doing this...... thoughts? what to do? what to do? I just don't have the answer....... There's a local guy that likes working on older cars that I met the other day, maybe I could have him do some of the work, since I don't have the time. A friend of mine said that I should restore it with the entire IMSA body and tell it's story, but it's just not my style anymore. It's also very difficult to drive. I would more than likely remove the large flares and gnose. This morning, I'll look over this Z again and maybe blow off some of the dust to see what's left...... The large wing is sitting in a room and there's a normal hatch on it. I recall that my goals were to simplify this car many moons ago.......
  21. Hey Folks, I got a few emails regarding the exhaust systems and selling them in a group buy. I don't believe in group buys because most of them don't come to fruition. Here's what I'll do- I'm going to change the exhaust and add vbands so that it can be shipped easier. Once I finish making some changes, I'll make 10 of them. They fit to the MSA exhaust header and built from a 1970 chassis. I'll have a price in a few days and post them to the company website.
  22. ......... had no choice but to remove the Z off the lift. I've got to get back to work. T/C bushings were shot and replaced today along with bump steer spacer installed for 17" wheels. still waiting on fuel tank, tires and big brake kit. If fuel tank arrives, I can atleast get it on the dyno.
