  1. I don't know buddy, that's still extremely cheap.
  2. a 350 with a T56 for $300 sounds way too good to be true.
  3. seriously? I mean I hate to hear that but geez...
  4. forget the shifter, it's time to lay some smack down.
  5. ok thanks grumpy. I'm actually about to do an oil pan gasket on a car I just bought. I did a trans pan on my truck and tightened the piss out of it only to find the new one leaked worse than the old one so I knew I did something wrong. I didn't do the tighten in a circle thing either... I thought tighten from inside out... why circle? I thought you wanted to work the slack in the gasket out(wards). Thanks.
  6. Grumpy, what should you torque the bolts to and in what pattern?
  7. Interesting eye grumpy! I would have never noticed anything in the fan. I didn't notice the person in the reflection actually, as I was passing over the pictures I was admiring the shiny paint (jacked up in places as it may be) and it hit me and I fell out laughing and I really haven't been able to look at the rest of the pictures again.
  8. So I was looking at buying a Corvette that's already most of the way there and this one keeps coming up but while I was looking at the pictures I saw the bird and I thought you might get a kick out of it.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280188770526&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=018
  9. Vortec heads and intake??? You could go from 75cc combustion chambers to 64cc and have a lot better flow. You'd need a new intake but I'm sure you could sell the one you've got and buy a vortec style for just a few more dollars. Even under the lift limit of the vortec heads you could make 300hp easily and maybe 350. I think for 700-800 dollars it's worth the money. If you can find some used heads you could do it for a few hundred cheaper than that even.
  10. It should be noted that there are shouldered bolts specifically for sbc starters. If you do not use them the starter will move away from the flexplate/flywheel and could cause the problems you are describing.
  11. Looks like I'm headed to harbor freight. I hate how long it takes me to actually do stuff.... I'm just going to replace the seals and not the guides. I've been all over google and talked to two different people at jegs. I can't figure out exactly which seals to order. I know they're 11/32" valves and I THINK they're 1/2" guides and I THINK they're umbrella seals??? Anyone know? If I can think about it I'll call dart tomorrow and get the details from them. If someone knows off the top of their head please clue me in. Thanks!
  12. I've been told it's hard on rod bolts, the sudden reverse torque thing... I've had to do it before in my auto. I figured if I killed the tranny or F'ed a rod bolt it would be better than totaling the whole car. (I was going WAY too fast and didn't notice everyone else was stopping when they should have been going at least 60). I kicked it down into 2nd and the back end locked up, I did a little skid thing and I'm sure the people in front of me had to go to the bathroom and clean their car seats but at least I didn't hit them...
  13. So would the little compressor that you screw by hand not be sufficient? Basically what you are saying in the last part is that if I'm going to do them while they're still on the engine I'm just hoping the guides are good because I've got no way of telling, right?
  14. Ok so I burn a good bit of oil in my 383. I can't remember if I always have or if it started after a certain time. Compression is good all around. Will overheating cause the seals to harden? I've never had a head apart but I do have some spare ones and a spring compressor to play around with before I try it on my 383. Now, an old timer up at work told me I could cut off a spark plug (the ceramic part) and braze a compressed air fitting to it to keep pressure on the valves and keep them from dropping (does that work?). Then I could take the springs off and... they're right there? haha. Now my dart heads have dual springs, is that going to cause problems? Also, I don't know if it was him or someone else that asked me either what kind of guides I have or what kind of seals I had and of course I don't know. What is he talking about? I know I need to figure out which type I have to order some more but this is a new ball game for me. From what I understand if the guides aren't worn then I can just replace the seals. How do I know if the guides are worn? Can you wiggle the valve and tell? Need advice!
  15. "I will sell them to you and get bigger ones, eh?" make me deal, I mean a steal....
  16. Sweet project. Where are the pictures again? One thing you said I would like to bring up, you said basically that it's better to have too small of a turbo rather than too large of a turbo on the street. That might be true to a point but if you really have too small of a turbo then you'll be getting into boost cruising and that's not desirable I don't think. Maybe you weren't talking about that small.
