  1. 750 cfm seems a bit much for a 327 only making 365hp, or is that just me?
  2. I got a good deal on a set of Sealed Power forged pistons but in the process forgot that I'm putting these on some stock (press fit) rods and of course the pistons are floating pin. So I'm just looking for some decent rods for the thing and saw these: http://www.kmjent.com/cart/product.php?productid=1471 They look pretty but I looked on google and didn't find anyone that ran them. I'm not looking for anything spectacular but for some reason I doubt these will handle 600hp when eagle only claims 500 on their SIR I-beam rods.... http://www.jegs.com/p/Eagle/744630/10002/-1 Anyway, if anyone has any experience with them I would appreciate the input. Thanks
  3. two different rings broke? what could have caused that?
  4. Are you asking if the 280zx is a smaller car or if the engine bay is smaller? Who told you that you had to cut up a 280zx when you put a sbc in it? Unless you're talking about the driver's side header then I will disagree with you. The sbc fits very nicely. I think all of you would benefit from reading the rules. Speculation only clutters the board and makes facts harder to find/establish.
  5. details, we need details. when does it not have power? all the time? can you smoke the tires? does it surge? like Doc said, what's your timing set at and what is your engine build?
  6. I know they suck. Mr Gasket sells them so you would think they would be decent but they're really not.
  7. More than likely you're using a short water pump and this bracket will work fine. I don't recommend it on something you want to keep but to get the thing sold this will work: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SB-CHEVY-CHROME-ALTERNATOR-BRACKET-SET-HEADERS-SWP_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38656QQihZ013QQitemZ230243493667QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I simply searched for "swp alternator bracket". I've seen these brackets at our local parts stores even. Hope this helps.
  8. somebody's been throwing back a few.....
  9. I'm way out of my knowledge here but a/some clutch driven alternators that only engaged when breaking (perhaps simply wired to the brake lights/pedal) could be hooked up to the drivetrain in some way?.... just a thought..
  10. now see I can't do that whole two or more years thing, what engine should I buy. In two years who knows what you might be able to afford. Stay up on your research and then when you have "enough" money buy what you want. sb chevy parts will probably stay pretty constant but I imagine LSx parts will be down some in two years.
  11. you used to work at a junk yard (recently?) and now you're getting ready to spend $20k+ on and engine and transmission? You are either: 1. enjoying a really nice job right now 2. going into an insane amount of debt for a car 3. Simply THE man at saving your money 4. A drug dealer 5. not telling us something
  12. None of those engines (especially coupled with a suitable transmission/rearend/tire/wheel/chassis) is going to be anything close to cheap.
  13. It sounds to me like the easier approach would be a custom (or well-matched) cam.... Seems to be a lot less expensive and a lot less headache. If I were you I would start playing around with desktopdyno or a similar simulation program.
  14. I'm finally getting stuff going with both engines and I was just going to throw a new set of bearings on the 350 (vortec) but I noticed the crank was scuffed up a little. I took it to the machine shop and he said it needs to be ground down. So I'm wondering, can I just buy an OE (or maybe better) crank that I won't have to balance and how much and where? How much does it usually cost to grind a crank down? Thanks
  15. I assume they have some cooling benefits?? What do you do with them? I'm looking at this particual manifold: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=010&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=200207479526&rd=1 Thanks
  16. what are ideal temperatures? and where?
  17. haha, but remind everyone how much you've spent on it too (m1noel)
  18. they want too much for a new carb and only a few people run them anyway.....
  19. yeah I would call them. They're nice guys and it shouldn't take a month. I got my mounts within a week I think.
