  1. I have got myself a 240z with a 350 stroked to 383 swapped in it and I am beginning to realize I might be in over my head. It's got a 4l60e and a stock rear end. How do I go about finding a rear end upgrade that will fit my swap and hold 450 hp?
  2. So I'm experiencing a bad vibration when I apply throttle in gear. It's mostly noticeable in 3rd gear and higher, but if I really push it in 1st-2nd gear it'll vibrate. It doesn't matter how much I push the gas pedal, any throttle input at all will cause vibration in 3rd gear and up. It sounds and feels like it's coming from the rear end. If I let off the throttle I can hear a hum or a winding noise. There is NO vibration with clutch in or in neutral, only in gear. At any speed going down the road if I push the clutch in the vibration stops immediately. I had my diff rebuilt not even a year ago at a transmission shop when my diff was making a loud humming noise constantly, so there shouldn't be an issue with it. My first thought was the driveshaft ujoints, but after getting under the car and checking the play it doesn't seem to be that bad. I'll have to take it the trans shop to be sure. I took a look at the engine mounts, but only in neutral and revving. There was slight shifting but it seemed normal. I'm going to check the mounts at load tomorrow and check the trans mounts too. Also checked the driveshaft bolts and they were very tight. No flange to flange play. Halfshafts too. I don't know when exactly this started happening, so I can't pinpoint what I did that started the vibration. Just went down the road one day and felt the shaking. I don't drive the car very hard, never clutch dumping or launching it. Anyone else have this issue before? What fixed it for you? If any of you need more info I'll provide it. I'm going to take it down to the transmission shop soon to see what they think, in the meantime I'd love for y'all to suggests some tests for me to do to narrow down the issue. Thanks
  3. So yesterday, my car was totaled. I was at a red light at the bottom of a bridge, and on the left lane there was a guy who was pushing his car because he was having car problems. 30 seconds into waiting for the red light to turn green, I looked into my rearview, I saw a Honda coming at me at least 45 mph. I saw him 2 seconds before he hit me, so I braced for impact. He pushed me to the other side of the intersection. I tried to exit the car but the feders trapped the door, so I climbed out the window. I went up to the driver and asked what happened with him and told him off for being reckless. He told me that he was distracted by the guy pushing his car because he wanted to help him out. So I called insurance and cops took a report. Today the adjuster came and said the car is a total loss. He said they'll get back to me within a few days with an offer. I've put a lot of time and money restoring this car, but I have a feeling they will try to lowball me. Has anyone had a similar experience? How much were you compensated? How can I make sure I get back what I put in?
  4. I finally had the time to tear down the rear end, and I found several things that I wasn't expecting. It looks like the car has an open differential (previous owner lied to me, what a shocker!), and it may be on it's last leg. It looks to me like it has a lot of play in it. Everything together makes me consider my options for a new rearend. Should I just re-build this one with an LSD? Should I get a new one? Should I just weld it and call it good? Oh, and on a side note, the PO had the rear end completely full of fluid, no wonder it leaked like it did, all that thick goopy fluid had nowhere to go when those gears started turning. It also appears that it may have had some water in the oil too, I saw what looked like whater beading up on the gears after I got the cover off. I believe that the rear end in the car is an r200, if it is I will likely rebuild or weld it. If it is an r180, I may scrap it in favor of a better option. I have a small block v8 swap in the car already, nothing crazy, but looking at around 350hp adn 350ft lbs of torque. I have a video of the rearend I took today, I am uploading it to youtube and will post a link to it soon.
  5. So I've had my eyes on a ls1 engine and a bunch of parts I couldn't identify at my cousins shop. I've just about got my dad sold on the idea of swapping a Chevy V8 into my 260Z and he actually seems really interested. (probably because it's GM) AAnyway I was wondering about your rear end setups on your V8 swapped Z's I know the common option is a R200 LSD or welding a R180 but I'm still kinda anxious about putting close to 350 hp to the wheels on a 40 year old car. Also I need help IDing the engine its self. It's an aluminum block LS1 so I know it's a car engine but I'm unsure about the displacement. I remember somebody at a family reunion saying something about a 5.3l at their shop but I thought the 5.3's were truck engines? My dad swears my cousin got the engine out of a Corvette a few years back but I'm not sure. Thank you guys! PS; I know many people will get the exhaust manifolds off of a Vortec truck to modify into a turbo manifold and I was wondering what the most common truck you can get the manifolds off of is?
