2JZ260z
Been wanting to start a swap now that the 2J260Z is done (for now) and wasn't sure on what powerplant to use. With careful deliberation, my step-father and I decided on the VH45DE. Our goal was to make some steady, reliable power, and have AC, along with a few other "comforts". My car is raw power and no "fun" to drive for normal people so this time we are going with something more usable and comfortable. Today we purchased our 94' VH45DE with 100k miles, the harness, ECU: all that crap for 700$ Not to shabby if you ask me. Trying to figure out what transmission to put in it currently, but leaning towards the Z32 5-Speed. Or is it Z31...I forget. More pictures to come, uploading is a biznatch. This will be my first V8 Swap/Build so any commentary and guidance is greatly appreciated. I got this 73 240z from a guy a while back not running, but complete with a 280z Swap and Webbers. The engine was rebuilt and has 40k miles on it, and it was my driver until my 260z was complete I was going to sell it to pay for my Rims/Tires/Cage/Suspension, but my sDad took a ride in my Z a few days ago and was happily terrified by the speed he witnessed. He was hooked. I told him I would help him do one on one condition: The swap was not a 2JZ, or variant of it (1JZ, 7MGTE, RB etc etc). After trying to find a suitable swap, I came across this. The minute I showed this video to him, he could not bare it anymore, and we went searching. More to come! Edited July 16, 2011 by RB26powered74zcar Removed for sale content. 2JZ260z
Welll, got around to pulling the motor this weekend! It was a fun experience. I ended up pulling it with the transmission attached (Mistake) but it came out nice and simple, nothing broken! The engine crane really makes a difference. Heres a few pics. Also, for those of you in the greater Sacramento area, the engine is for sale; it has 40k on fresh rebuilt, nice carbs. You can see it in pics. ARiskyCvt
Thank you for building a REAL V8! I was going to do the same swap on my Z but stuck it out with the L28et. I hope everything goes well for you. Edited July 20, 2011 by lostfairlady

2JZ260z
I heard the VH45DE on even 4PSI is ridiculous! Be careful! I will probably stick to N/A on this one and just do throttle response work and bore it out. Let it breath a little better. This car is more for reliability than my 2J car. 2JZ260z
Big Update: Been a while. This project is for my old man. After recently seeing my project coming together. He decided to do his very own. He bought my 280Z Swapped 240 daily driver and now we've finally got some head way on it. He has a full-time job and I told him if he wants my labor free, he needs to be there when we work on it. We had some time this weekend and got to work. We decided to strip her down and get her ready for media blasting and rust proofing and primer. This is my first time doing it this way so hopefully we do it right! Heres some pics :3 My Step dad gettin in on some of the action. Hammers are NOT for removing glass old man...wtf. Door one off

novaborn
Well. The mods don't check their post counter often I suppose and as I can't post (or get ahold of one) i'll just use my other account to post these until the main account can post again. Why I need posts moderated, I'll never know. Big Update: Been a while. This project is for my old man. After recently seeing my project coming together. He decided to do his very own. 2JZ260z
The car is going out for media-blasting tomorrow so we got some crazy ideas. I heard of a guy who did a 350z Dash setup in his 240z but could only find one picture as reference to go off of. I guess I'll be in the dark for this one. Anyway, we went to our favorite Nissan Dismantler and found an entire dash and center console (including gauges) as well as the Bose 6 Disc changer and AC stuff (wiring as well) for 500$ which is fair IMO. If anyone has any insight on how to make this go in easier, let me know. If worse comes to worse, I'll probably end up putting pieces of the new tech in the OLD dash and fill/resurface it :3 This certainly will end up being a project. Nelsonian
I do know that the car with the 350 dash swap was in the MSA car show back in 06', might even be where that pic came from. Might have some luck giving MSA a call to see if they could track the owner down for info. By the way nice progress...
2JZ260z
Thanks! Not sure on what/who MSA is but yeah, i'll have to look it up. Any link to their site? Anyway, its going for mediablasting tomorrow. I'll post pics of the send off. Edited August 6, 2011 by 2JZ260z

2JZ260z
Should be getting the car back today. Totally spaced and forgot the car needs to be primed and sealed. Anyone know any shops in the Sacramento area that can do this without taking an arm and a leg?
240Dave
Should be getting the car back today. Totally spaced and forgot the car needs to be primed and sealed. Anyone know any shops in the Sacramento area that can do this without taking an arm and a leg? Awesome man, I going to be doing pretty much the same thing next year. How did you get on with the 350z dash fitting in there... thats something i really wanted to do also. I was going to use the VK45DE and TT it with a couple of GT35R's even though it looks a little uglier than the VH engine. Really keen to see how things go on your project. 2JZ260z
Sorry for the long pause in swap. My step-dad and I kind of came to a disagreement as to which power-plant to use. My buddy originally suggested we try the VH45 as it hasn't been done in a Z (or many havent been done) so that was a serious perk. We also figured with the Datsun body, and 350Z electronics, everything would be easier to setup in the long run. A week or so ago, he suggested that since we haven't chosen a powerplant yet that we should look into the 1UZFE. Smaller displacement, physically smaller engine, and apparently less work to put in the car. We would mate it up to a R154 and still have a car with plenty of grunt. Problem. They are ROUGHLY the same price parts-wise. Any thoughts anyone? Alas, I digress. The car came back from sand blaster weeks back and has been at painter/bodywork shop for a while but is now back. Here she is after sand blastage. By enovaborn at 2011-10-15 By enovaborn at 2011-10-15 By enovaborn at 2011-10-15 By enovaborn at 2011-10-15 These pictures were in progress shots. The day it got back from blasting, it went to a bodywork shop here in Sacramento called TnT Autobody. They are a mid-range shop that do good work for an affordable price. Primed the entire car and sealed it for 250$! I'm not sure if that rate would apply to everyone because I'm a bit of a sweet-talker, but based on my research that is a pretty good rate. For a little more, they fixed the small bits of rust in the floor panels, sealed and primed the interior of the car as well. While we deliberate on which engine/tranny combo to use, I'll probably start doing the goodole bushing funzies next... By enovaborn at 2011-10-15 By enovaborn at 2011-10-15 ...as well as start figuring out how this 350Z dash and parts are going to fit into the car correctly. Lots of them to play with! By enovaborn at 2011-10-15 Short little P.S.: If any of you are in the Sacramento Area and have experience with this sort of thing, would love to buy you a few beers and pick your brain about it! PC Also: If an admin would delete posts by "novaborn". I made a second account to post in the interim, but no need for double posts. Those and my "wtf approval" posts are really meaning less in the thread. If they could be deleted, that would be sweet. Thank you! 2JZ260z
So I know it's been a bit, but finally back to post. Got the car back recently from primer, and got the engine today. We couldn't find a VH45DE that had low enough miles for a good enough price (engine alone 1200 with 130k miles; no thank you) but my buddy reminded me that a 1UZFE would do the trick. We got one with 18k miles (30k KM) for 900 bones with everything we needed, sans the transmission. Time to clean her up!
