R230 Swap And Axle Conversion How to with Part Numbers.

Recommended Posts

Please post any information that will update this list or correct any errors so we have it on the first post and not mixed throughout the entire thread.

This topic has been discussed alot but almost every topic is missing information. This topic is to clear things up for myself and anyone else who is doing the R230 rearend swap.

Basically you have a 3 options to do the R230 Swap.

Modern Motorsports kit http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=74&PHPSESSID=10fc0dbb6dc1121a7ab692ee9572f113

Techno Toy Tuning Kit https://technotoytuning.com/nissan/240z/complete-r200-r230-rear-end-conversion-z-car

Make your own Kit

Things you will need to complete the swap using the Modern Motorsports kit:

*R230 230mm or 9.05†in diameter Differential

(Years Nissan Armada(04-05 SE 2.937 Gear, LE 3.357 Gear))(1990-1996 Nissan 300ZXTT (3.69 Gear))

*2 pairs of Infiniti Q45 28 Spline Axles(YEARS) or 300ZXTT 28 Spline Axles(1990-1996)(need to verify this)

*2 new shortened custom axle shafts (NEED SUPPLIERS WITH PART NUMBERS)

(12.437")(SPLINE?) (driver's side)

(12.937")(SPLINE?) (passenger side)

AXLE ASSEMBLY HOW TO (http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/25054-r230-axle-assembly-a-pictoral-review/)

*Driveshaft Infiniti Q45 (YEARS)

*280z Stub Axles Either the stock ones or

Modern Motorsports billet http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=32_53&products_id=62

Chequered Flag Racing Chromoly http://www.chequeredflagracing.net/Datsun.html

*Modern Motorsports R230 Mount package

*Modern Motorsports R230 CV Adapter

or

Chequered Flag Racing R230 CV Adapter

Things you will need to complete the swap using the Techno Toy Tuning kit:

*R230 230mm or 9.05†in diameter Differential

(Years Nissan Armada(04-05 SE 2.937 Gear, LE 3.357 Gear))(1990-1996 Nissan 300ZXTT (3.69 Gear))

*1 pair of Infiniti Q45 28 Spline Axles(YEARS) or 300ZXTT 28 Spline Axles(1990-1996)(need to verify this)(you send these axles in to get shortened when you order Techno Toy Tunings kit).

*Driveshaft Infiniti Q45 (YEARS)

*Hubs/Brakes from (1990-1996 Nissan 300ZXTT)

*Techno Toy Tuning R230 Conversion kit

https://technotoytuning.com/nissan/240z/complete-r200-r230-rear-end-conversion-z-car

So from this list I still need to fill in the blanks and get everything corrected. This will be nice once its done so you dont have to search through different threads and piece information together. I would really like to know different suppliers on the shortened custom axles with part numbers.

1 slight correction, the Q45 is a short nose R200. R230s are only from the Z32TT or Armada/QX56.

Axles are interchangeable between the Q45 and Z32TT. Q45's

Q45/Z32TT hub inside spline count is 32 (post #4 and post #41):

Arizona Z car also has a mustache bar that will work with the Q45 diff swap:

Can we clarify this info a little further with regard to TTT's complete rear kit? I think they're unclear what, in addition to their $2.6k kit, is required to complete the conversion. Suppose I could just ask them

FYI - seems MM's site is down, like their domain expired.

I don't think Ross is making stuff anymore. last i heard he was very ill. I would give gabriel a call and ask him he is SUPER nice, informative and you will actually get your parts when your suppose to.

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if there had been any progress on the axle part numbers, I currently have:

- A Z32TT R230 VLSD (3.69 ratio)

- Techno-Toy-Tuning Forward Diff Mount

- Techno-Toy-Tuning Machined Mustache Bar

- 4 matching 6-bolt CV joints (from 4x 300zx driveshafts)

- Chequred Flag Racing 27-Spline companion flanges.

The only thing I'm missing are the axles and the modified C.V. end caps to adjust the plunge.

I was getting ready to order these from Ross, when he got sick and stopped accepting orders.

Its the last little bit I need to finish!

Apparently there is a speedway engineering axle that suits, but I don't have enough information, the C.V. end caps might be a custom machining job.

Anyone?

Good morning! Some have had luck with The Driveshaft Shop. They are on line. I know Sunny Z got some custom axles from them. I think all you need to know is your desired length from flange to flange. You send your CVs to them and they will assemble with new boots, etc. try sending him a PM for details. Don't be offended by short answers, Sunny Z is usually not as long winded as I am.

So I sent an email to speedway engineering for parts:

0090-046 (12.437") (driver's side)
0090-046 (12.937") (passenger side)

From the other thread, I got a response this morning.

They still have drawings (they just are no longer a stocked item), price is $217ea machined to order, 3 week lead time.

Almost to easy.

Doesn't techno toy tuning do everything for 480$? I saw on their site all you have to do is send them your cv's and they will put them on shorter axles ..I was thinking of calling them ..I need to convert my 280 to the r230 and I have the diff , mount and axles

Digging up from the grave.. Considering this swap in the 240z.

Located a Diff,

definitely will let TTT do the axles..

Mount should be made or also purchased from TTT
Mustache Bar from TTT

Thats it? I know they make nice other parts.. but funds will be going to other things for now.

S13 swap may be best bet. But its so wide, it makes it look horrible without wide body or something lol

I talked to Gabriel when I discovered it wasn't a direct bolt in affair and he said the original kits had a lower mounting point for the R230 to the mustache bar but they raised it up for a better pinion angle.

The R200 setups don't require the modification.
